John MacArthur on why bad things
happen to God's people:
1. Test the validity of their faith.
2. Wean them from the world.
3. Call them to heavenly hope.
4. Show us what we really love.
5. Teach us obedience.
6. Show us His compassion in our
misery.
Is the Trinity in the Bible?
Yes
There is only one God (Deut 6:4)
The Father is God (1 Jn 3:1)
The Son is God (Heb 1:8)
The Holy Spirit is God (Acts 5:3-4)
The Father is not the Son (1 Jn 4:14)
The Son is not the Holy Spirit (Jn 16:7)
The Holy Spirit is not the Father (Jn 14:16)
Four Priorities for Parents:
1. You must know God personally (Deuteronomy 6:4).
2. You must love God holistically (Deuteronomy 6:5).
3. You must treasure God’s Word intimately (Deuteronomy 6:6).
4. You must teach God’s Word diligently (Deuteronomy 6:7-9).
“Scripture always keeps the focus on the power of Christ and the power of the Word, not on the men who were merely instruments of that power.”
— John MacArthur
“Repentance is a spiritual medicine made up of six special ingredients:
1. Sight of sin
2. Sorrow for sin
3. Confession of sin
4. Shame for sin
5. Hatred for sin
6. Turning from sin”
— Thomas Watson, The Doctrine of Repentance, 18.
“Prosperity is uncertain. We dare not make it the foundation for our security in life. God in His sovereignty may decide at any time, as with Job, to remove our money, possessions, and even loved ones.”
— John MacArthur
Six Steps of True Repentance

2) Sorrow for Sin
3) Confession of Sin
4) Shame for Sin
5) Hatred of Sin
6) Turning from Sin

Charles Spurgeon's advice for
conquering pride:
1. Embrace your Nothingness
"Be not proud of race, face, place, or
grace"
2. Embrace Christ
"Pride cannot live beneath the cross"
3. Embrace Suffering
"The benefit of the furnace; it melts,
tries, and purifies"
@DustinBenge
"Godly sorrow is sincere. Hypocrites grieve only for the bitter consequence of sin… Godly sorrow, however, is chiefly for the trespass against God."
–– Thomas Watson
“If we don’t throughly and faithfully hack sin to pieces, it’s coming back for us. And it will come back reinvigorated, sometimes stronger than ever. We must deal ruthlessly with the flesh that remains.” - MacArthur
“Oh then study Christ, study to know him more extensively. There be many excellent things in Christ, that the most eagle-eyed believer hath not yet seen.”
— John Flavel
“Books lay out for us the whole breadth of the human condition, reflect the best of man's creative work as God's image bearer, and point out our need for a Savior, to the glory of God.”
— Stephen J. Nichols

“Being a Christian, by definition, involves belonging to the church—and that, in turn, means belonging to a particular church.”

“You cannot raise a generation on Elsa’s Frozen anthem “Let it go, let it go… no right, no wrong, no rules for me, I’m free,” and then expect them to grow up and obey Jesus, much less tell other people to obey Jesus.”

“Talk to almost any mature, vibrant Christians, and they will tell you about Christian books that have been instrumental in their lives.”
— Kevin DeYoung, Don’t Be True to Yourself, 57.
“A true believer will doubtless repent and pray, and forsake his former evil ways, but he is not accepted upon the account of what he does or feels but because Jesus lived and died, and rose and reigns on the behalf of sinners…”
— John Newton
“Prayer is arguably the most objective measurement of our dependence upon God. Think of it this way. The things you pray about are the things you trust God to handle. The things you neglect to pray about are the things you trust you can handle on your own.”

“Dear Sir, Christ is the peerless pearl hid in the field, Mat, xiii. 46. Will you be that wise merchant, that resolves to win and compass that treasure, whatever it shall cost you? Ah, Sir, Christ is a commodity that can never be bought too dear.”
— John Flavel
“Give yourself to reading…You need to read… study as much as possible sound theological works, especially the Puritanic writers, and expositions of the Bible.”
— Charles Spurgeon
