It's interesting how many takes on the Alba Party don't make a mention of the role of reactionary "anti-wokeness" among its presumed support base and defectors so far. This feels like a pretty central piece of the puzzle and possibly the most worrying aspect of this development.

While some opponents of the SNP may be happy to see this 'split' (which is likely to amount at best to a breaking off of a very predictable minority of people), nobody who considers themselves progressive should celebrate the circumstances in which this is happening.

I honestly can’t imagine being a man and thinking I was the right person to write approximately 43 different versions of the same column on the subject of “women’s rights”, while countless women tell me how wrong I am. Must be fun to go through life with that level of arrogance.

This presents a serious challenge to women’s organisations over how to continue to speak as loudly and as passionately and as often as they should be, while keeping themselves and the women they represent safe. That should be of concern to *all feminists*.

The 'point', it seems, is to play to the base, and if that means leaning into this anti-political correctness impulse and alienating large parts of the wider electorate, who cares? These people are happy to pay/be paid to boost each other's egos and persuade exactly nobody else.

The sad truth is that it’s entirely unsurprising if women’s organisations hosting an event in 2022 enter into the proceedings with more than a little trepidation given that they have been continually subject to harassment and abuse online for a period of years.

Too often, from where I'm sitting, those who had the power to decide it was worth it did the opposite. Assuming, I suppose, that they had more to lose than gain from actually challenging these attitudes and behaviours.

Unless he really is delusional, he also knows this group is a minority of all Yes voters, and an even smaller minority of the population he should be hoping will vote for independence if that was really his concern. But like a lot of pro-indy grifts, that isn't really the point.

The idea “Me Too has gone too far” was the subject of several long rants. This included the claim “toxic femininity is as bad as toxic masculinity” which apparently is when women “use” their sexuality for their benefit. That’s the context to this, outside the (obvious) politics.

For a glimmer of hope, I’d reflect on all that has been achieved since Zero Tolerance launched in 1992. Feminist activism has a long history of breaking ground and changing minds. Changing the world for the better isn’t easy, but it’s been done before, and it will be again.

“We do not need UK Government appointees telling us in Scotland how to legislate in devolved areas.” Strong words from Scottish Trans and Equality Network. 👏

Since we are apparently having this conversation again, here’s one I made earlier: “The greatest risk to LGBTQ youth is pretending they don’t exist.”

How embarrassing and shameful is it that: a) the UK has reached a point where we’re being condemned internationally for anti-LGBT (particularly anti-trans) abuse b) UK representatives tried to get this removed from the report? I think b) goes a long way to explaining a).

Very interesting news today. The Council of Europe has voted to adopt a report on rising anti-LGBT abuse and sentiment around Europe and beyond - and it includes some very interesting points. 1/

Honest to god, how is this NOT a parody account? And there are SNP MSPs and MPs following, presumably for such astute observations and questions as this 🤦🏻‍♀️

Just read an anti-trans “feminist” dismiss creepy comments made by a man to a woman because “Honestly-he knew you were a lesbian so it wasn’t a come on.” and now I am going to leave the internet forever. (I wish.)
