6. We think that this reduced effectiveness occurs only in a short window of time (no B.1.351 cases 14+ days post 2nd dose), and that the S.A. variant does not spread efficiently. Thus, even more of a reason to get vaccinated and drive down cases to zero!

המלצה לשבת להורים לילדים בני 5-11 - אל תתמהמהו עם חיסון הילדים. בתוך שבועות ספורים יש סיכוי לא מזערי לגל תחלואה רציני בישראל. זו ממש לא סיבה לחרדה אבל לילדיכם יהיה סיכוי מצוין לפגוש את הנגיף. מוטב שהם יפגשו אותו עם חיסון יעיל ובטוח שמגן ממחלה קשה, ככל הנראה גם נגד וריאנטים חדשים.

מאשרים חיסון שלישי לבני 60 או 70+ ואני תומכת בהחלט. הולך ומתחוור שהם בסיכון מוגבר ושזה המהלך עם הסיכוי הגבוה ביותר להגן עליהם. זה חייב להיות בנוסף לצעדים בולמי מגיפה נוספים, אבל זו אנחת רווחה מבחינתי עבור המשפחה שלי.

4-Sequences from such chronic-like clades bear patterns similar to validated chronic infections: they are from older, more male individuals, enriched for spike mutations, & tree topology is “ladder-like”. We find that chronic infections speed up the rate of evolution!

5-Next, can chronic infections predict future mutations? Today, there is a zoo of circulating variants out there, and strikingly they convergently mutated at 11 spike positions. 70% of these mutations come up in BA1 chronic-like clades that predate the zoo of variants!

Genetic diversity within #Omicron can give us clues about its age and growth rate. Omicron's abundant spike mutations and deletions interfere with sequencing, sometimes leading to incomplete genomes. As a result phylogenetic inference struggles, causing spurious diversity. 1/5
