Why is this worth screaming about?
Because conspiracies to violate civil rights seem to be perfectly acceptable here. To the point where people don't even recognize that they are crimes.
I heard this morning that there are 84 Missouri House districts with no Democratic candidate. Some are in St Louis county! If you have any interest in running for office, even if you're a timid maybe, I'd love to hear from you. Filing is still open!
@annieschulte
I'm glad she made it to the ICU and pray that she survived this.
I wish Missouri had sufficient mental health capacity to care for her. I wish we had enough capacity to help her and have prevented today.
My heart aches for you.
This is not something to be proud of. Can you show me examples of the American Library Association opposing Christians, embracing marxism, or refusing to protect our children?
Can you even explain what marxism is?
Or is this just another talking point to rile up emotions?
Under my direction, Missouri was first in the nation to withdraw from
@ALALibrary
due to their opposition to Christians, embrace of marxism, and refusal to protect our children. Texas joins ten other states in pulling their support & more are expected.
I just reported a tweet by a former Missouri governor encouraging violence against people with differing political views. This is dictator behavior that does not belong anywhere near American politics. This man should never have any political power again.
@AngelSSMO
Please, please speak out about the experiences and needs of people struggling with infertility. I had no idea how important abortion could be for that - and I am fairly well-informed. You're sharing facts in this thread that many don't know or understand- and need to.
On 3/31/22, there were 106 "runaways" from foster care in Missouri.
Don't talk to me about needing a "domestic supply of infants" when we don't keep track of kids.
Last night, at the trampoline park that my kids love, someone had a disagreement with the manager and was escorted out.
Once outside, he fired a gun four times.
This is not an acceptable way to address a disagreement. But this is what our gun-loving culture enables.
Threats of a primary if they voted to impeach ...
That sounds like jury tampering, if true. I know a Senate impeachment trial isn't the same thing as a court, but the same standards about threatening witnesses or jurors should apply in any legitimate government.
The people planning to prevent women from traveling out of state to obtain an abortion don't seem to care that guns cross state lines into places where they're more difficult to obtain.
Today, I asked the Missouri Attorney General to clarify how his office will interpret the term "medical emergency." He needs to let hospitals know that they can save the life of a pregnant person before they are minutes away from death.
🚨🚨BREAKING: Supreme Court strikes down Biden’s unlawful student loan debt forgiveness scam.
I’m proud to have brought this case as Missouri’s Attorney General and save taxpayers a half trillion dollars.
Missouri is refusing to let the DOJ observe an election.
In an election that would put the Missouri National Guard (the "state defense force" that would administer the militia) under the Governor and declare their purpose to be "to defend the constitution ... of Missouri."
I have been talking about Agape for a few days, but this article clarifies why everyone needs to pay attention to what is happening there. To what some "christians" do in the name of love.
I write this thread as a warning. It will be gruesome and hard to read.
We won't recover from the theocracy Evangelicals are constructing once it is established.
If we fail in 2022, they will have a political power that will render every election null and void, and the majority will never have a voice again in our lifetimes.
RIGHT NOW kids are being abused in Missouri.
RIGHT NOW Children's Division doesn't have enough employees or foster families to care for abused and neglected kids.
And RIGHT NOW the Missouri legislature is spending hours talking about high school sports.
#Priorities
We have the lowest paid state employees in the country, 25% of school districts on 4-day school weeks, factory farms poisoning our groundwater and can't seem to prevent large-scale child abuse. Hope you enjoy your extra $12/year while the CEO of your employer gets thousands.
Today, we signed into law the largest income tax cut in state history, returning more than $760 million to taxpayers every year.
This means more money for Missourians to spend, invest, and save. Allowing economic growth and business expansion with good-paying jobs in return.
@ReutersZengerle
I'm so sorry to hear that. They really don't give thought to the people who make that their professional space, like reporters and staff.
Today, after much deliberation, I am endorsing
@LucasKunceMO
for the Democratic Primary in the Missouri Senate race. Lucas has the experience and insight that will make him an effective policymaker in DC, and his values and experience make him the right choice for Senate.
Republicans increasingly live in a fantasy land about Missouri law, where they not only deny existing law, but use their bully pulpit to convince voters that it's more rational than they make it. Meanwhile they actively pass irrational laws.
The Governor, who has consistently refused to issue a mask mandate, whining that a measure instituted by members of his own party for COVID safety was a plot to embarrass him, is all you need to know about Missouri politics.
Are you going to let 11 year old foster girls and 19 year old foster boys live in the same unaccredited for profit group home?
Because that is happening.
It's hard not to be concerned when your governor and your president both have covid-19 and neither will mandate masks (or even wear one).
We have a leadership vacuum. And the virus is filling it.
Healthcare in Missouri, a 🧵. I am that the 🌎 pay attention, because of you're not in Missouri or a similar state, you probably don't see what's happening. Many people here don't even know. 🩺
Missouri's Attorney General office has taken a hard right turn to spend taxpayer money on frivolous cultural issues rather than protect children, and I'm not going to stand for that.
I have filed a case to expose a Missouri Court's extensive due process violations.
Corporations have taken a hard-left turn to force a woke ideology onto families rather than protect children, and Missouri isn’t going to stand for it.
I joined 6 other states advising Target to immediately cease promoting and selling its 2023 Pride Collection to minors.
I've been quietly talking to people about running for Attorney General for a while, but tonight I want to make it official-I'm looking at running for Missouri's Attorney General after I term out of the House next year.
Children with disabilities become adults with disabilities. I'm astounded at all the people who want to "save the babies" and oppose Medicaid expansion, which would help many of those babies access healthcare in 18 years.
tldr:
@AGEricSchmitt
received reports from POLARIS about human trafficking at Agape. It does not appear he sent those to the MO Department of Labor to investigate. MO DoL did not investigate.
#Slavery
Out of curiosity, I looked at infant and maternal mortality rates before and after Roe.
TLDR: access to safe, legal abortion saved the lives of moms and babies.
There are 6 Children's Division investigators in Kansas City.
Six.
Governor
@GovParsonMO
, is a tax cut really the best thing to do to serve the children of Missouri?
In 2020
@GovParsonMO
cut 500 social worker jobs in
#Missouri
. Most of the jobs were in the Children’s Division. This week a 2 year old was found dead in
#KansasCity
. The child had drugs in his system. This is the yard where the child lived with his siblings.
Filing has closed, and I am the only Democratic candidate in my race. To the residents of the new 83rd District, I look forward to getting to know you and hope to earn your vote in November.
Missouri government is so broken that the department of labor doesn’t protect workers, and the department of social services doesn’t protect the unemployed.
Missouri residents, you deserve so much better.
If you don't protect democracy, you won't have anything left to protect.
Yes, I mean you. The average citizen. The eligible voter (who may choose not to vote). The Fox viewer and the MSNBC viewer.
Pay attention.
I hope Missourians pay attention right now.
People around the country are standing together saying THIS IS NOT OK.
If you've been quietly saying this for years, stand up and know that people have your back.
Gov. Parson is holding a press conference on the drought in Missouri tomorrow. I'm sure he'll have lots to say about state efforts to alleviate climate change. 🙊
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — State Rep. Sarah Unsicker, D-Shrewsbury, filed House Bill 15 Wednesday to require the licensure of all residential care facilities in Missouri.
Making your investigation public puts unwanted attention on children who are patients of this clinic. This is the opposite of "making Missouri the safest state in the nation for children."
I want Missouri to be the safest state in the nation for children. We have received disturbing allegations that individuals at the Transgender Center at St. Louis Children’s Hospital have been harming hundreds of children each year, including by using experimental drugs on them.
I’ve been doing a lot of work this session related to abuse and human trafficking. These days, the word “groomer” is being thrown around by right-wing extremists against organizations like Disney. 🧵1/
Can anyone explain to me like I'm 5 why a "Stone of help boy's home" was registered to the Missouri Secretary of State yesterday in Ladue, St. Louis County, Missouri?
Missouri House Republicans just voted to limit debate in order to pass a bill that gives people less control of their government.
#hjr91
They did this after a moment of silence in support of a democratic government in Ukraine.
I applaud Montana Democrats for objecting so strongly to the refusal to let their member speak. Rep Zephyr was treated in a way that is not just unjust, but is an assault on democracy.
But as a Missouri Democrat I have questions …
#MoLeg
🧵
The speaker is refusing to recognize rep Zephyr.
They have not formally censured her but they literally just passed a bill erasing trans people while not allowing her to speak.
I'm really getting a kick out of the "all I did was put on a wig to look like a girl" argument from men who want to ban drag.
We really need more humor like this in Missouri.
Gentleman, thank you for the recognition of my potential run for Attorney General.
As state senator, I trust you know the difference between an Order of Protection and a Felony conviction. But I'll explain it for the people who don't understand the minute details in the law…
This gal wants to be AG…
..but doesn’t know MO law. Felons in MO (domestic abusers in her example) cannot possess firearms per 571.070
What she really wants is to disarm law-abiding citizens with Biden gun-grab tactics
This is why Dems lose every election statewide
#moleg
I am now aware of three facilities in Missouri, all exempt from licensure, that reportedly regularly abuse(d) children: Circle of Hope (closed), Agape Boarding School (still open), and Camp Kanaukak.
@Triszam
@NoLieWithBTC
The same children's services that has workers with 50+ kids on their caseload, that the federal government investigated them not reporting missing foster kids? That one?
The program was designed for children to eat. We have food deserts in the richest agricultural land in the world (owned by China) and you deny Missourians food because you're afraid someone other than the child may eat it.
The Summer Food Service Program continues to work as it was designed – for children to eat meals on site. By requiring kids to eat meals on-site, we can be confident that the kids who need the meals are getting the meals. 3/3
Of the 50,000 Johnson & Johnson doses Missouri is receiving, 5,000 will also be distributed to the "targeted vaccination sites" in both St. Louis and Kansas City.
But the difference between a “neighbor” and a “groomer” is that the groomer relationship also includes abuse or an intent to abuse.
Trivializing the concept of grooming does real harm to children who are abused.
7/end
I find this case so incredibly disturbing. An officer of the court who works only on cases involving children, who has the power to file a petition to remove a child from their parents, sex trafficked a foster child.
So this thing with Agape Boarding School closing and reopening under a new name has me wondering, how are they license-exempt?
@DSS_Missouri
please take note.
Last summer, I requested
@Eric_Schmitt
declare he would not prosecute abortions in the case of medical necessity. He refused to answer.
Now, his office is using that same law to prosecute a political opponent.
Missouri House Democratic leader

I agree. All Missourians have the right to worship, or not worship, according to their beliefs.
Christians.
Hindus.
Muslims.
Atheists.
Buddhists.
Jewish.
Sheiks.
All others.
All means all.
The First Amendment includes both the right to free speech and religious liberty for a reason, and my office will use any tool necessary to defend the rights of all Missourians to worship as they please.
Good morning. In today's news:
* AG Schmitt is actively preventing wrongfully convicted individuals from restoring their freedom;
* Gov. Parson states his government will continue to prosecute marijuana offenses, even though those aren't being prosecuted at the fed level now;

Dear

, if you're experiencing outrage fatigue going into 2022, remember that legislators start session in just 5 days.
Get some self-care and stock up on the chocolate. We need you.
Thinking this morning of my friend and colleague Rep. Cannon who, after an (alleged) conspiracy to overturn the 2020 election results failed in her state, tried to watch her governor sign a bill that would have made it harder for minorities to vote in Georgia.
She was arrested.
Brian Kemp and 6 other white men signed voter suppression laws in front of a painting of a slave plantation. On the other side of the door Rep. Park Cannon got arrested for knocking on it. She is a parishioner at Senator Warnock’s church and he visited her in jail

While we should prohibit local school boards from exercising local control to ban masks, we should let them decide whether to let school officials hit kids in school. Gotcha, Missouri GOP.
Can I just say how proud I am of rural Missourians who feel politically isolated to be organizing right now, even though they aren't experienced with this!
If you feel isolated, please reach out to

for support!
Allowing foreign corporations to buy family farms.
Deregulating CAFOs. (concentrated animal feeding operations)
Undermining public education.
Closing rural hospitals.
Limiting public health agencies.
It almost looks like there's a concerted effort to destroy rural America.
My son couldn't walk at 18 months. I wasn't equipped to teach his neurodiverse brain how to speak.
I'm educated, but I'm no therapist. I love my son, but I had no idea what he needed to learn the skills he needed to thrive.

don't supersede the needs of children.
I hope you are more interested in verifying the age of those appearing in sexually explicit material than you are in verifying the age of those who view it.
I certainly am.
As Governor, Missouri will require age verification for online pornography to protect our children and help parents shield them from obscenity. It’s just common sense.
Thank you
@crystal_quade
for saying what Missourians already know: many politicians in the Missouri legislature are more concerned with winning elections than with the people we were sent here to serve.

Today, it was revealed that one of the most powerful people in the country has been taking bribes for over 20 years.
A millionaire had access to him that the average citizen doesn't.
The United States that I know stands against egalitarianism like this.
For decades, Justice Clarence Thomas has secretly accepted luxury trips from a major Republican donor, newly obtained documents and interviews show.
The extent and frequency of these apparent gifts to Thomas has no known precedent in modern SCOTUS history... 🧵👇
In the height of slavery, it was illegal to circulate abolitionist material. Now, Missouri Republicans want to make a curriculum called Teaching Tolerance illegal.
This allegation is far more serious than anything I have talked about. I hope the

More than anything, I hope

is wrong here.

The scandal of Eric Schmitt's handling of child abuse, slavery, and racketeering may just have gotten gravely serious.
It looks like his office could be interfering in the Federal criminal prosecution of Agape staff in the Eastern District of California.
You may not apologize, Mr. Bailey, but you will one day regret using your office to increase suffering for marginalized people while Missourians, from babies all the way to our still breathing WWII vets, are suffering.
If we don't have a lawmaker with an immunology degree, I don't know why we should be overriding decisions of medical professionals based on the expertise one gains from political propaganda.

What you call "excellence" allows a for-profit entity take the state's 💰 for 3 years, provide little education with 🅾️ accountability, then disappear with the profit, leaving underfunded public schools to pick up the slack.
I’ll never apologize for believing that parents know what is right for their child. Additionally, those afraid of competition are afraid of failure being exposed more than the actual competition itself. Where there is excellence you will find families and communities ready 🧵
The former director of Agape Boarding School pleaded with a Cole County judge on Monday to keep himself off the state’s central registry of child abuse and neglect so he can keep working with children.

I am ashamed to be a Missourian this week. Between ripping out healthcare from 275,000 people to nullifying federal laws in the state, the only people who will benefit from all of this are the lawyers.
I usually drive to KC, but we have to show up for rural women too, so I’m organizing a rally in Maryville. Please share this. Please show up. I’ll be there even if it’s just me, but I hope to show folks that we are here too.
Missouri Children's Division is doing this.
They don't just take SSI. They take survivor benefits from Social Security, Railroad Pensions and Veterans' benefits. If a child in foster care receives a lump sum payment, the state takes it.
State law mandates this.
Child welfare agencies are taking foster children's Social Security benefits.
They take $180 million annually from the most at-risk children in the country.
Congress needs to put a stop to it.

It is appropriate for the Attorney General to investigate allegations of abuse of the medical system, including those against the WashU gender clinic.
It is not appropriate for the Attorney General's office to publicize or politicize such investigations.
There's a difference.
Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you a politician who doesn't know the difference between a personal attack and commentary on legislation.
This State Senator thinks if you attack a bill as offensive, you're attacking the sponsor.
Prime example of what's wrong in politics now.
When you politicize public health and attack the people whose job it is is to keep the community healthy, you lose those public health workers. Be careful what you ask for.

If Police can't take guns and ammunition away from dangerous people,
And family can't take guns and ammunition away from dangerous people,
Then what exactly are the constitutional rights of the rest of us?
The 2nd amendment is a clause in the constitution, not the entire thing
Missouri law allows dangerous people to possess high-powered firearms and 600 rounds of ammunition even when family members come to police for help.
That's because elected officials thought passing a stupid law for political credit was more important than protecting kids' lives.
