I was a male nurse for twenty years. I never once felt upset at a patient’s refusal to allow me to attend to their intimate care needs. I always saw it as an issue of dignity and confidence.
If you get upset at patients’ setting their own boundaries, then care isn’t for you.
But her intimate care, as she wanted, was always provided by other women. Not men, not even me, but other women she felt she could trust when she was at the most vulnerable it’s possible to be 10/
I was a nurse for 20+ years.
Some women are comfortable with men providing their intimate care and others really aren’t.
Boundaries need to be respected and it’s down to the person being cared for, not the carer (or anyone else), to set them.
This shouldn’t be controversial.
If you’re thinking of donating to this, it’s worth bearing in mind that the Good Law Project currently carries £2.5m in reserves.
You could, instead, donate to that helps people unable to afford legal representation get access to it.
I earlier praised Marina Hyde for her mea culpa in relation to Russell Brand and Georgina Baillie.
I hadn’t seen this viscerally unpleasant piece then.
My word is she right to be sorry now and she should have been directly apologising for this.
This place is often full of left liberals suggesting the UK is heading towards 1930’s Germany, that Tories are fascists, or Brexit has destroyed their rights,
Then faced with real fascism and protesters celebrating real human rights abuses they’re either silent or equivocate.
The absolutely wild shit has been coming out from some people, using one atrocity to justify backing people who plan to commit more atrocities....
... is part of why many of us (non-experts) hesitated to make even the most basic comments, in case we emboldened people like them.
The PLO dropped the phrase ‘from the river to the sea’ at the time of the Oslo Peace Accords as it wasn’t consistent with peace or a two state solution.
Hamas adopted the phrase in the late 1980s when it vowed to violently destroy Israel and Jews.
But sure, indulge yourself.
Can someone tell me what is "anti-Semitic" about this phrase “We won’t rest until we have justice, until all people, Israelis and Palestinians, between the river and the sea can live in peaceful liberty.”?
@Keir_Starmer
, I'll start with you.....
If you’ve seen copious amounts of antisemitic slogans and placards on ‘peace rally’ and you join the next one, people have the freedom to assume you are more than comfortable with the antisemitism.
Hi
@sainsburys
as a customer I do not want flags on my groceries. Neither do I want strawberries given a nationality.
Especially this Brit flag which is associated with colonialism.
Did you consider the views of customers who will not buy goods with colonial flags on them?
‘You or I might retreat gracefully if told by one of the world’s leading experts on Jewish history that we were wrong.
But then you or I are not Gary Lineker.’
It isn’t his ‘radicalism’ that puts me off Corbyn. In many ways he isn’t radical enough, the last Labour manifesto was a catalogue of middle class perks.
It’s the surly aggression, anti-western conspiracies and Stalinist approach to party management that I find off putting.

ICJP has now issued the Labour Leadership with a notice of intention to prosecute any UK politician for their complicity in war crimes in Gaza.
The announcement comes after Saturday's notice to

It’s down to advisors to communicate these issues in ways that are easily understood.

I do think there’s a yearning among some people to believe they are living under fascism or extreme authoritarianism.
Almost as though it would validate them politically.
1/ The UK is descending into fascism. Our democratic freedoms are being threatened. Everyone living in the UK right now should be deeply concerned. Here’s why… 🧵
I’m not sure how obvious this is but as long as Tories who facilitated & championed Johnson continue to be treated like valid contributors to public discourse, our democracy cannot begin to heal. If they must be ‘booked’, they should be bombarded with evidence of their perfidy.
The Foreign Secretary of the UK reminding the First Minister of Scotland that foreign policy is not a devolved matter should be far from controversial.
So how does the unelected Lords appointee David Cameron think he has any legitimacy telling the elected by constituents First Minister of Scotland who he can or can’t speak to? And who is Cameron to tell Humza what he’s allowed to say or think??? The arrogance is off the scale
Stephen Fry claims to be an atheist, but he also claims to be Jewish.
How does that work then?
Like being Stephen on weekdays, and Stephanie on weekends?
The Palestinian Territories are literally between the river and the sea. Palestinians between the river and the sea are subject to illegal occupation, settlement incursions, de facto apartheid, and in Gaza, blockade and bombardment. That is why people chant!
When I show pics like this to my French pals, they all fall about laughing.
Then I tickle them further by claiming “tourists are money”.
“What is the most visited country in the World?”, they ask…

Even if this tweet had appeared at 7pm yesterday evening, it would still have been irresponsible from a legislator.
As it happens, it was posted an hour ago and still remains up.
The Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital was sheltering thousands of displaced people when it was bombed last night, killing hundreds of innocent Palestinians.
Following the airstrike, media outlets including the BBC pointed the finger at the Israeli Air Force.🧵1/5

My response is, if you think posting a picture of someone with their finger in the air and you then turn

Not my intention, of course.
But all of the …

Look. Ms Mordaunt went to huge trouble to copy Mosley & those he imitated.
Denying it just makes you look stupid. Recognising it requires a response.

Out of curiosity, just how many of these sorts of incidents does it take before certain very vocal media commentators feel able to stop classifying these protests as “peaceful”?

“I believe my words were decontextualised…”
Fair enough. For context, at a pro- Palestinian rally she said:
“What is happening in Gaza today is worse than Auschwitz. Gaza is worse than Bergen-Belsen. Gaza is worse than Dachau, worse than Lublin.”
This is just ill informed nonsense.
There are very strong regional culinary cultures in the UK along with some excellent fine dining restaurants across the country.
This is just oikophobia dressed up as cultural commentary.
@gavinantonyrice
And its got nothing to do with wages. UK does not have a proper food culture. Do you want someone from Spain/Italy/France serving you who grew up in a family restaurant serving amazing food or a British kid who grew up thinking that Fish and Chips was the heights of cuisine?

Seriously how the hell can Johnson be so far ahead in polls? He can’t interact with ordinary people, showed zero empathy for flood victims, has given public money away to enable his dodgy affairs as in Arcuri scandal, and worse still has links to Putin

This is very good. It’s my experience too that most of the senior leadership in all sectors are generally apolitical, but they do fear the backlash from being seen to be politically out of step (insufficiently progressive).
Troubling day. The far-right occupying the cenotaph. A peaceful march but one where there were anti-Semitic tropes from some. There’s only one thing I’m certain of- politicians need to be more careful and judicious about the words they use than ever.
Alison Moyet has had to delete her Twitter account because of all the abuse she received for standing up for her Jewish friends. Now I understand why the few that do want to show support stay silent.
A lot of these MPs are in their 30s and 40s.

Somehow, everytime their 'culture' is included, it looks out of place and degrades that which surrounds it.
This is not English, nor British.
This is cringe.
And was dropped by the PLO at the time of the Oslo peace accords as it was not compatible with either peace or a two state solution.
It was adopted by Hamas in the late 1980s as a rhetorical statement to promote its charter, which called for the destruction of Israel.
The slogan "from the river to the sea" long predates Hamas. It was used as early as the 1960s, decades before Hamas was even founded, by Palestinians to call for a secular and democratic state.
I’ve tended to think a lot of Labour ‘sensibles’ were just being disingenuous with the ‘siding with Farage’ line.
I’ve slowly come to the conclusion that they just can’t- or won’t allow themselves to- see the real issue here.
Dismissal of NatWest CEO Had to happen once Sunak decided to side w Farage. Our PM is mad if he think tying his fortune to Farage is good idea. He was prepared to stand up to Johnson but now embraces Farage whom public constantly refused to elect an MP
It doesn’t seem to me that anyone is ‘going after’ Ince.
Quite a few people are asking him questions- in the most part quite respectfully- that he chooses to ignore, particularly if they come from women.
The problem of social media talking heads who earned followers and exposure following Brexit is that they have to stay relevant, regardless of their ability to articulate anything beyond prosaic anti Tory rhetoric.
WTF!
A TV journalist just argued that Sunak is right to stand with Israel, because Jewish people here are feeling threatened.
How do they not see that THEY are the ones acting like Jewish people and the Israeli government are the same thing!? ... WHICH IS ANTISEMITIC!!
I remember when I moved to London I couldn’t open an account at Lloyd’s in Crouch End because they didn’t accept the Irish passport as valid ID. I didn’t go on Newsnight to complain; I just went next door to Barclays. Nigel is such a drama Queen.
The French have also suffered massively at the hands of Islamist terrorists and they opposed the Iraq intervention.
Crass comment, not worthy of someone who aspires to be our future prime minister.
Sixteen years ago, I warned the invasion and occupation of Iraq would set off a spiral of conflict and hate that would fuel the wars, terrorism and misery of future generations.

this ethnically diverse cabinet is the result of an imperial past history different from that of any other EU country, and it's a cabinet struggling to contain a new revolt from a staunch anti-cosmopolitam right dissatisfied with Brexit's broken promises.
This constant defence of violence or threats of it to citizens here on the back of a conflict 3000 miles away.
These aren’t peaceful people who care about Gazans, they just enjoy threatening their political opponents here.
Keir Starmer has come forward saying he fears for his family's safety following the party's vote against a ceasefire
All I can say to that is, how do you feel that the people of Gaza feel with the constant threat of bombs, thirst, hunger and no medical aid?
Worse than you
The main issue is that Phillips suggested there was a problem with safeguarding at Michaela.
That’s a serious accusation that reflects on teachers, governors and school leaders.
Phillips made the accusation without having any knowledge about safeguarding at the school.
It's not for me to judge whether Phillips fell short of some implied duty of care that she owes to Birbalsingh.
But facts matter and I wanted to set them straight. Because twisting facts degrades the very nature of the national conversation, which Birbalsingh claims to want. /11
This is the similar historical nonsense that says Corbyn was a lonely voice campaigning against apartheid.
Everyone on the centre left and some on the centre right campaigned against Section 28.
So a two state solution isn’t viable, so push for a ‘single secular state’ instead because that would be easier to achieve?
And people take him seriously…
I agree totally. Apartheid must be smashed & the two state solution is nearly impossible (even if desirable for a number of reasons). The only realistic civilised solution is for a single secular state for all - with equal civil liberties independently of religion and ethnicity.
