My da threw an egg at Margaret Thatcher when she visited Australia. She was welcomed by protests from the Irish in Australia and it made the news in Ireland. Daddy’s parents were watching the news and said“I wonder if Eugene and Mary are there” next shot was daddy being arrested.
Tomorrow marks a tragic day in our history, the 50th anniversary of Bloody Sunday. This was one of the darkest days of the Troubles. We must learn from the past, reconcile, and build a peaceful future for people in Northern Ireland.

On this Good Friday morning & on the eve of Easter may Lyra McKee b the last to die as she did. Those involved are not the IRA. The IRA embraced peace. It is gone. No Republican can support the anti peace gangs masquerading as the IRA They should disband.
When I was 20 I ate an Ostrich egg. I was working in the Duke of York. A guy from Belfast AZoo gave me it. I boiled it in a kettle & used a pint glass as an egg cup. I took me an hour 2 eat it. With toast & tea. & a soup spoon. Just saying.
I am really sorry to hear of death of Shane Magowan. RG & I were with him and Victoria last Wednesday. Ireland has lost a great patriot, a poet and friend of the down trodden and marginalised.
A Republican First Minister for the North is a mighty moment in the history of our island. Another transformative event that helps advance the opportunity for constitutional change. Well done Michelle and the Sinn Féin Assembly team.
This is a plastic plate I used in Long Kesh. I still eat from it every so often. Just to remind me of how lucky I am. Stay strong. Nígh bhur lamha. Stay seperate. Mind those who need minded.
All well here. No one hurt. Thanks 4 all the texts & phone calls. Thanks 2 all the great neighbours, the Neighbourhood Watch & Sinn Féin reps who were here very quickly.
Shane MacGowan died today.Ireland has lost a great patriot,a poet & friend of the downtrodden & marginalised.
Shane’s generosity and solidarity,his wonderful music & lyrics touched millions over the years & will continue to do so into the future.Tá sé ar slí an fhirinne anios.
All those who are decrying todays terrible events in the Middle East, including the Irish Govt, shud organise an international intervention to establish a proper negotiations process, based upon international law & the UN Charter. Anything else is unacceptable. Dialogue,dialogue
It was down the glen one Easter morn
To a city fair rode I
There armed lines of marching men
In squadrons passed me by
No pipe did hum, no battle drum did sound it's loud tattoo
But the Angelus Bells o'er the Liffey swells rang out in the foggy dew
In this clip from 1994, Leeds student Liz Truss tells ITV News the idea of the monarchy is 'disgraceful'.
Today she meets the queen to be appointed as the new PM.
"[Boris Johnson] has no mandate whatsoever to take Scotland out of the EU." SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon says Scotland's desire to stay in the EU has now been "emphatically confirmed" as she lays out plans to have a second referendum on Scottish independence
A thought for bedtime. Who trusts the British Government? Does any Unionist? None of the rest of us do. Is there not a logical conclusion to this? As Ian Paisley told Martin McGuinness ‘We dont need an Englishman to rule us’. An issue on which we all agree?
I’m voting YES on May 25 because women should be able to make their own decisions aided by their doctors. I or no one else should make their decisions for them.
I’m disappointed that Simon Coveney says Fine Gael won’t talk to Sinn Féin. Obviously a misguided effort to wrong foot Fianna Fáil. But I thought he was better than that. Incompatible policies fair enough. But has he learned nothing from the DUP? Sinn Féin voters lesser voters?
Those who support the monarchy should be respectful towards those of us who don’t & we should respect their views. I have no time for hierarchies, aristocrats or royalty. I believe in equality & self-determination. None of us should be anyone’s subject.
Sinn Féin fought a positive,confident, solution centred campaign. Fianna Fail,Fine Gael and elements of the media fought a nasty,negative campaign.This wee song is for them. Sinn Féin,an pobáil agus an Phoblacht Nua abú.Its all over now bar the counting. Until the next time xo
What is the difference between Ian Paisley and Micheál Martin or Leo Varadkar? He recognised the validity of the Sinn Féin vote and the Sinn Féin voter decades before them.
#Sinn
Féin .. Each time I asked Ian Paisley why he went into government with
@sinnfeinireland
he answered “Because the people elected them. That is democracy & they are not going away.” Why are
@LeoVaradkar
&
@MichealMartinTD
struggling to accept what Ian Paisley realised then?
Asking for a friend. Were rebel songs and other subversive airs played by marching bands at Fianna Fail Bodenstown event today? Or did my friend mishear RTE News coverage?
So the Lagan, the Bann & the Foyle still flowing this morning. The northern hills still standing. The Mournes still sweeping down to the sea. The grass still green. The sky hasn’t fallen in.
“They won’t break me because the desire for freedom, and the freedom of the Irish people, is in my heart. The day will dawn when all the people of Ireland will have the desire for freedom to show.
It is then we’ll see the rising of the moon”. - Óglach Bobby Sands
A wee woman in Ballymurphy challenged a British Army officer who was directing a raid/ wrecking spree on her home. “Learn your history” she told him “ Ireland was Ireland when England was a pup. Ireland will be Ireland when England is all messed up!” How right she was!
Failte to the Palestinian Ambassador who is with us at the Ard Fheis. Sinn Féin stands with the Palestinian people; demands a ceasefire and an international initiative to achieve a lasting peace; and is for Palestinian freedom and a Palestinian state.
The awful brutality inflicted today on the Palestinian people is an international Shame and indictment of the USA, EU, UN & Israeli Government. Our Taoiseach needs to stand with Palestine.
If the Irish don't stand by the Palestinians who will? The government must Expel the Israeli Ambassador, Recognise the State of Palestine, and stand up for peace
Well done to Cork and especially to the Kit Man who opened a bag of junior gansais and gave them to young Gaels who came to watch the game today. A great gesture. An flathuil. Míle buiochas. Up The Rebels.
This is the anniversary of the GFA. 22 yrs ago the unionist parties refused to talk to SF or accept rights of our voters. Today the leaders of Fianna Fáil & Fine Gael r refusing to recognise rights of SF voters or engage with SF on govt formation. So much for lessons of history
