Using language that mirrors Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” law, Ohio Republicans introduced a bill to restrict how sexual orientation and gender identity are taught.

Last month, Ohio voters approved Issue 2 legalizing adult-use cannabis w/ a 14% margin. This morning, Senate Rs introduced major changes, required submission of public testimony by 2:30PM TODAY, and plan to pass these changes by Wednesday. They’re not even pretending anymore.👎
Republican Ohio Senators are unveiling their changes to the recreational marijuana law passed by voters last month. One highlight: the home grow provision in Issue 2 will be eliminated with their changes.
@SarahEDon
will have more, but you can watch here:
It’s a funny thing to watch DeWine and company now run from their extreme positions on banning abortion — because they know these positions are deeply unpopular.
Gov. Mike DeWine scrubbed his campaign website of references to the law he signed imposing a ban on abortion at six weeks into a pregnancy, and won’t say if he supports Ohio Republican lawmakers’ plans to consider banning abortion completely.

Agree or disagree, free speech and the right to protest are fundamental tenants of our democracy. Period.
@OhioState
students have a right to peacefully protest.
We all knew it was coming, but it’s still a gut punch. State elections have never been more important: legislative, Governor, State Supreme Court. Vote like our lives depend on it.
Here's the Ohio Redistricting Commission formally notifying the court that it will not heed the court's order to produce a new map.
The court said Republicans' maps were unconstitutional. Republicans said Democrats' maps are unconstitutional (so the court won't rule on them)
Ohio’s public universities contribute $69billion annually—8.8% of our total gross state product—to our economy. The draconian provisions in SB83 put all of that economic benefit at risk. Glad to see

Please tell me how forcing a 10yo sexual abuse victim to carry her pregnancy to term and endure childbirth is anything other than barbaric? The inhumanity of Ohio’s 6-week abortion ban is quickly becoming evident with very real stories from doctors and patients.
As other states restrict the procedure, patients - included an abused 10-year-old Ohio girl who was 6 weeks and 3 days pregnant - head to Indiana for abortions via

This “groomer” rhetoric mirrors language used by the Nazis in the 1930s and 40s to justify exterminating homosexuals. It’s dangerous and incites violence against our LGBTQ+ neighbors. I’m so sorry the Clintonville community had to suffer this pathetic and cowardly invasion today.
“I don’t understand what it is you think I need to apologize for.”
Ohio’s AG Dave Yost thinks it’s unfair he’s being asked to apologize for denying the existence of a 10yo rape victim. I think it’s unfair Ohio law forces rape victims to flee our state to obtain abortion care.
I appreciate that Gov DeWine took his time to listen to the individuals most impacted by this discriminatory legislation and to understand the fact-based science on this issue./1
BREAKING: DeWine vetoed House Bill 68.

The need for Larry Householder to immediately resign is obvious, but all General Assembly members should also commit to seriously reforming our campaign finance laws so that dark money & corruption never again subvert the will of the people who elected us to serve.

God grant me the confidence of a man who works to destroy Ohioans’ access to direct democracy under the guise of “stopping the ability of outside interests to change the Ohio Constitution”, while seeking support from outside interests to change the Ohio Constitution.
Emails and texts between Republican state Rep. Brian Stewart and Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose shed light on the behind-the-scenes maneuvering to advance a resolution to make it harder for voters to amend the Ohio Constitution.

@nckevns
You might read DeWine’s statements in this article and think the Governor is simply an observer to Ohio’s redistricting process. He’s not. He’s 1 of 7 votes on the Commission, and he voted for the Republican’s unconstitutional maps SIX times.
(Gov.) DeWine said the constitutional amendments “were well-intended, and” everyone thought it would work and the reality is it didn’t work. "It didn’t work very well at all so I think we have to try something else in the long run."
by David Skolnik
When the “electoral chaos” complaints start rolling in, remember that we could have had bipartisan, constitutional maps last year…and, again in January…and, again in February. It was a willful choice to ignore the Ohio Constitution and Ohio voters.

A Republican bill (SB 30) passed by the Ohio Senate earlier this year would weaken child labor laws for 14- and 15-year old children. Cases like this underscore why this is terrible policy and a huge step backwards for Ohio kids and worker safety.
Federal agents found more than two dozen minors illegally working inside a poultry plant in Kidron, Ohio, earlier this month, according to local immigration advocates who spoke to NBC News on the condition of anonymity.
Senate Bill 22 is a reckless, dangerous piece of legislation that flies in the face of science, public health, good public policy and separation of powers. Governor DeWine was right to veto it, and I voted NO to override his veto.
Ohio can’t be an opportunity state if we don’t embrace our diversity & strive towards greater equality for all. These inflammatory bills are meant to divide, not address real issues faced by Ohioans. Legitimizing extremism is bad for Ohio families & our long-term economic growth.
He signed it….just like he signed the bill allowing concealed carry with no training or permit. All opposed by law enforcement, teachers, and most folks with any common sense.
Ohio Gov. DeWine says he'll sign bill to arm teachers after a day of training
There is absolutely no protection for any girl playing sports in Ohio if the forced genital examinations supported by House Republicans becomes law. As a parent, this sick and extreme legislation is terrifying.
Up and down the ballot, the new strategy of Ohio Republican candidates is to avoid any debate or forum where they can’t control the questions asked and open exchange of opinions on issues. It’s un-democratic and disrespectful to voters.
This is your reminder that state laws and state constitutions are ultimately interpreted by State Supreme Courts. In November, 3️⃣ Ohio Supreme Court Justices are on the ballot. The future of Ohioans’ abortion rights won in 2023 is on the line in 2024. 👏Court 👏races 👏matter.
Can’t we all at least agree that an 18yo, who can’t even legally buy beer, shouldn’t be able to purchase AR-15s & 375 rounds of ammunition? It won’t prevent all mass shootings, but 19 kids would likely be leaving for their last day of school this morning.
Ohio State Rep. Jessica Miranda (D) calls out Republicans for pushing an anti-parental rights gender-affirming care ban and directly calls out conservative religious lobbyists in the gallery.

Gerrymandering means elections DON’T have consequences, even when corrupt & extreme bills are passed. That’s exactly why >70% of Ohio voters twice supported redistricting reforms. Ignoring these reforms is a direct assault on our democracy & voters.

HB 68’s veto override and Governor’s executive order make it virtually impossible for Ohioans to access care and make their own medical decisions with their doctors. These bans targeting LGBTQ+ individuals will endanger the lives of children, normalize the hate the transgender…
I know they were fully warned, because I sat on the committee that heard and read the hundreds of submitted testimony against this abortion ban. The Republicans didn’t care then, and they don’t care now.
Editor Commentary: Ohio Republicans were warned of the pain, suffering and torment some patients would experience if state government inserted itself into doctor’s offices and emergency rooms to dictate the reproductive health of Ohioans. They didn’t care
Ohio GOP Senate candidate Mike Gibbons on a Crain’s Cleveland Business podcast:
“The top 20% of earners in the U.S. pay 82% of federal income tax — and, you do the math, and 45% to 50% don’t pay any income tax… The middle class is not really paying any kind of a fair share.”

The speed at which our Attorney General
@DaveYostOH
jumped on the far-right “this case is fiction” bandwagon is the exact reason why sexual abuse continues to impact so many Ohio children each year: adult denial.
I was the ONLY reporter in the courtroom this morning as the man accused of raping a 10-year-old girl, impregnating her, leading to an abortion in Indiana, was arraigned.
This confirms that the case exists.
I wish he was this outraged when he was State Auditor & turned a blind eye to the $591million of Ohio taxpayer money that went to the ECOT scam instead of our public schools, or the $178million we’ve paid for the First Energy corruption scandal while he’s been Attorney General.
And for all of you with jerking knees, wrap your college-educated minds around this: the Attorney General makes less than $125k. (My student loans were paid off long ago, by me, working.)
DeWine signed Ohio’s 6-wk abortion ban w/ no exceptions for rape & incest in 2019. He and the GOP supermajority have had ~5yrs to add exceptions and clarify confusing language. Why haven’t they? Because they can’t find enough votes in the R caucuses to do it. Will. Never. Happen.
Trying to thwart passage of state Issue 1, Ohio Gov Mike DeWine flip-flops & tells ABC6 he would now allow rape, incest exceptions to abortion law
So defeat Issue 1 & GOP will develop new one acceptable to more Ohioans, he says
Abortion rights folks scoff
Ohio taxpayers just payed an additional $2million—bringing the current price tag to $18million—for the Republican’s August special election stunt intended to derail November’s Issue 1 and your personal freedom to make reproductive care decisions for yourself and your family.
The tab for Ohio’s August special election has gone up - the only question on that ballot was the Republican-backed amendment to require 60% voter approval for future amendments, including the abortion access/reproductive rights issue on the Nov. 7 ballot
So, just to recap where we are today: you can go get a tattoo or sit outside at a favorite bar on Friday and there are working groups for reopening gyms, casinos & tourism...but still no plan or stopgap for ensuring Ohio’s workers have access to safe childcare for their kids?
While yesterday’s results are not what we hoped for, I am deeply proud of the campaign we ran. Last night I called my opponent to offer my support and congratulate him on a hard-fought race.
Today I’m proud to announce my endorsement of
@JoeBiden
. The VP’s commitment to improving the healthcare, education and economy for every community in the country will pave the way for OH’s future and the defeat of the most dangerous Pres in our country’s history.

With SB215, the Republican supermajority is making it clear that they value the approval of the gun lobby more than the lives of Ohioans & the police officers who protect our communities every day. This is another extreme, dangerous bill brought to us by gerrymandered districts.
Exactly how many more dead children need to be analyzed & debated? People have lost faith in government because politicians continue to pander to extremism & gun industry profits over common-sense (and constitutional) reforms supported by the vast majority of Americans.
This is why people are losing faith in government to solve any of our problems.
How about we analyze the problem, find logical solutions, and improve them with civil debate?
Instead:
@POTUS
dictates unconstitutional, cynical, feel-good “solutions”. And the cycle repeats.
This is a sad day for democracy. The federal court’s ruling rewarded lawlessness, partisanship, and unchecked power. Corruption and extremism will continue in Ohio until politicians in power put the voices of voters ahead of politics.
Abortion activists in Ohio are hoping to get an amendment on the ballet that would enshrine abortion access in the state.
However, Republican legislators scheduled a special election to make it harder to amend the state constitution.

We won’t give in to the extremism that has taken over our politics at the expense of women and families. We need leaders governing for the good of Ohioans, not politicians using our private lives as political warfare while ignoring the real needs of our families.

Republicans showing INCREDIBLE disrespect to my friend and colleague
@Russo4Ohio
as she advocates for public health on the House floor today.
DISGUSTING.
Put simply, a few extremists on the State School Board want to risk federal funding used to feed hungry Ohio children, encourage schools to openly discriminate against a small group of kids, & legalize internal genital inspections for student athletes. Vote them out in November.
Ohio state school board resolution would oppose Joe Biden’s proposed Title IX protections for LGBTQ students, urge local schools to defy rules, back legislation on gender identity, girls sports
Democracy itself is at stake when the rule of law and code of ethics guiding our elected officials are ignored.
Thank you to local media who have been covering this story for months. I’m glad it is finally getting the national spotlight it deserves.
The extreme Republican agenda of abortion bans, book bans, and attacks on our public schools and personal freedoms lost big last night AGAIN in Ohio and beyond. Voters will keep rejecting this, however many times it takes.
The same guy who voted for 3 unconstitutional maps AFTER the Feb.2 filing deadline…maps he knew were intentionally drawn to leave Democratic-leaning districts with no filed D candidates. The court called his blatant disregard for the law (AGAIN), and now he’s embarrassed.
1300 candidates from both parties filed in time to be on the August 2nd ballot.
6 Democrats didn’t. And even though ballots have already gone out, the Ohio Supreme Court is risking election chaos to put them on the ballot. Shameful.
This is what the indoctrination of children looks like, and it’s terrifying. Yet, I doubt we’ll see mobile billboards parked in front of the Ohio Statehouse demanding accountability for the absurdly weak homeschooling laws that allow a pro-Nazi curriculum.
Like many of you, we want to know why AEP customers & local governments weren’t notified promptly of intentional outages and how the no-power communities were selected. We also want AEP to explain how they’ll improve the power grid & communications to prevent future failures.
This is NOT the process Ohioans voted for when they demanded reforms to our redistricting process. Voters want fair districts that are not unduly partisan, a transparent process & lines that keep communities whole. Any map falling short of these criteria will not get my vote.
Watch an opposition doctor question Rep Liston's credentials, only to suddenly learn that he is way out of his league. This quack doctor wants to ban gender affirming care for all trans youth and calls medical evidence "garbage." Stop HB 454.

It’s been one week since 19kids+2teachers were killed with an AR-15 style rifle and 375 rounds of ammunition. The solution from Ohio Republicans is to put guns in the classroom with less training than what is required to be a summer lifeguard.

voted to require internal genital examinations of children when these sore losers think an athlete doesn’t look “feminine” enough. They think you won’t remember their extremism and hold them accountable in November.
So many hateful bills being introduced in legislatures all across the country, including Ohio, aren’t actually intended to solve real issues, they’re meant to divide & distract from the real problems facing our families, schools & communities. We will not stop calling it out.

Is it civil to sign a bill forcing a 13yo rape survivor to carry her pregnancy to term? Because that’s what this Governor did in 2019 with the 6-week abortion ban, and that bill just became law. This sounds like cruelty, not civility.
My fellow Ohioans, I ask you tonight to pull together.
