SCHIFF: “Trump and his campaign welcomed and encouraged Russian interference?”
MUELLER: “Yes.”
SCHIFF: “And then Trump and his campaign lied about it to cover it up?”
MUELLER: “Yes.”
Wait, Tom Cotton just said America is Safer now than 4 years ago - but one of the themes of this convention is that America’s cities are more violent than ever.
One day it will be an amazing case study: how someone can have access to the most accurate information in the world, on any subject, and still choose to believe rumors, lies and conspiracy theories.
Let’s not simply dismiss this latest presidential tweet as Trump being Trump -
The President of the United States just denied the official death toll from Hurricane Maria and blamed it on Democrats.
This is among the lowest statements made by any American president.
Michelle Obama’s speech - and especially her delivery – was the kind stuff they’ll teach in classes.
But the biggest takeaway for me was that Joe Biden vs. Trump is a campaign that can bring together Bernie Sanders and John Kasich - and that’s a real big tent.
DNI just said that the most urgent threat America faces is not a military strike from a foreign nation but an attempt to undermine the integrity of our election system. Let that sink in.
Jacob Blake’s dad just said on
@NewDay
that he spoke to Joe Biden and Kamala Harris for an hour - said it was like speaking to “my uncle and one of my sisters.”
When Ali Camerota asked if he’d heard from President Trump to date, Mr. Blake only said “negative.”
Here’s the biggest takeaway from this morning’s hearing:
Not a single Republican asked about the many troubling allegations about our president put forward by his former personal attorney.
Instead, it was all attack, distract and deflect. Which they learned from the president.
“Trickle down economics has never worked. It’s time to grow the economy from the bottom and the middle out.” - that’s a line that will define this speech.
Wow - what a response! In just a few hours, over a million views of my announcement video. Blown away.
I’m grateful for all the support from so many across Long Island. Because this isn’t just about me. It’s about all of us — and what it’s going to take to flip this seat and…

This is is Sen. Cornyn’s excuse for Trump about Russian bounties on US troops: “Well, I think the president can’t single-handedly remember everything, I’m sure, that he’s briefed on.” At the same time, Trump campaign running ads saying Biden is losing it.
This headline should be studied by historians to understand our insane days: “Trump cites game show host Chuck Woolery on pandemic while undercutting doctors and questioning their expertise.”
This is not getting nearly as much attention as it deserves.
It’s a bigger deal than ‘they just said it out loud.’
This kind of an admission should be used in court cases about voter suppression efforts.
Free and Fair elections is more than just a sound bite.
One of President Donald Trump’s top re-election advisers told influential Republicans in swing state Wisconsin that the party has “traditionally” relied on voter suppression to compete in battleground states.
Trump’s firing of Barr is just the latest reminder of what Winston Churchill said about the futility of appeasement: it’s like feeding a crocodile hoping it eats you last.

And for what it’s worth, I do think the American people should have full information on Trump’s finances before the election to make a fully informed decision with regard to the possible foreign sources of income. The pace of the courts and this decision will not allow it.

7 Republicans who voted to convict will be seen as profiles in courage for upholding the integrity of our constitution and saying no president can incite insurrection.
When Trump’s senior military advisor endorses Joe Biden - along with 500 other former national security and military officials it’s a big deal. As in unprecedented.
Retired Gen. Paul Selva, a former senior military adviser to President Trump, is one of nearly 500 national security experts and former officials who has signed a letter in support of Joe Biden for president.

Biden just gave his best speech of the campaign at Gettysburg. It was a clear contrast with historic sweep, a commitment to reuniting the nation in a time of deep divisions. I’ve been writing a book on Lincoln and there were many resonant references.

All of what we are dealing with - as a country and a world - is why the nomination speech statement “I alone can fix it” was so deeply wrong from the beginning.
Looks like the circus just came to NY-01. George Santos filed to primary Nick LaLota.
Whatever the result - serial liar or Trump flunky - my response is the same:
Bring It On.
Indicted Serial Liar George Santos Announces New Run for Congress During State of the Union…
Sean Hannity: The New York Times is trying to distract you. They say Trump tried to fire Mueller, but our sources aren’t confirming that!
Sean Hannity, minutes later: Alright, yeah, maybe our sources confirm Trump wanted to fire Mueller. But so what? That’s his right. Anywho...
One of the questions tonight was how Biden would approach speaking to a mostly empty chamber.
Answer: He’s crisp but conversational - it isn’t the strident applause line politics oratory we typically see at State of Unions. It’s a more intimate, fireside chat style.
We’re in the first 15 minutes of Biden’s Townhall on

- we were told there’d be a Trump healthcare plan - but then we’ve been told that many, many times before.
More than 10 years after Obamacare (which was inspired by a Republican plan) the GOP is still all repeal, no replace, even in a pandemic.
More than three years into the Trump presidency and six months into a pandemic, there still isn’t a serious health care plan from the President and the GOP,

Most Americans, by a 2-to-1 margin, think Biden has more respect for those who serve in uniform than Trump does and deep skepticism for Trump's coronavirus response endures: POLL - ABC News
One of the lessons of the Trump administration is not to be intimidated by bullies and their ridiculous threats. It is always a sign of weakness not strength. They bet on people rationalizing and knuckling under.
So the view from the Oval Office seems to be most undocumented migrants are murders, drug dealers, thugs & child traffickers.

Talk about a “crisis of the soul.”
It’s just disgraceful to not even try to answer a direct question in a debate – and to default to talking points that you’ve said said over and over and over again...it’s a parody of itself.
So it seems like world leaders at the United Nations just laughed at - not with - our American President in the first minute of his speech, when he repeated his rally line about his administration having accomplished more than almost any other in our history.
This is not good.
Huge news: Oath Keepers leader Stewart Rhodes convicted of seditious conspiracy. As a journalist, I’ve covered Oath Keepers since 2009, recounted in Wingnuts. As a historian, I can tell you that seditious conspiracy convictions are incredibly rare. And in this case deserved.
If senators are going to flaunt their disregard for the facts presented in this impeachment trial - reading papers, feet up - they should at least be made to do so in full view of the cameras, so constituents can see the cynical contempt they have for deliberative democracy.
Let’s keep it simple, you ainti-vaxxers: You have a right to kill yourself, whether with booze, cigarettes, chew, or high living. You do not have the right to kill others by spreading a virus. That’s not freedom, it’s selfishness.
The 1,000 page bipartisan Senate Intel report was dropped at the height of the Democratic convention and followed by typical Trump attempts to distract. Don’t fall for it. Even Republicans on the committee backed damning facts that show that Trump-Russia connections were real.
A bipartisan report from the Senate Intelligence Committee explains how Russia interfered in the 2016 presidential election and the Trump campaign welcomed the help.
@JohnAvlon
: “The Trump campaign’s Russia connections were real... and the report condemns it.”

This is the speed dating equivalent of impeachment. But The Trump defense speeches capture a crew that has learned from their boss: deflect and project, whataboutism and victimhood. Very little addressing the charges or what actually happened.
Here’s a test of impartial justice:
How would Republican Senators react if a Democratic president did exactly what Donald Trump is accused of?
I think we all know the answer.
As the impeachment trial enters its final phase, Republican senators need to decide “whether evidence and ‘impartial justice’ and ‘votes of conscience’ mean anything to them,”

Wow. "...with legal briefs due next week and a trial set to begin only days later, Trump is clinging to his election fraud charade and suddenly finds himself without legal representation."
Another core contradiction of this convention - Ivanka and others hitting the “Biden Crime Bill” which they say was too tough and unjust - but also trying to say that Biden will be weak on crime and make America unsafe. Which is it?
