If you take the time to give people with learning disabilities a voice and then actually listen to that voice, you will find they talk a lot more sense than most and can quite easily fight for themselves. Historic health inequalities and ‘othering’ attitudes are the issue here.

Total failure of services. Bravery had a torrid time in a Priory ATU and had nowhere to live when he was discharged. He and his dad lived in cheap hotels. And he was allowed out alone after telling his carers he wanted to kill someone. His awful crime was completely avoidable. 1/

Odd isn’t it....there are no beds for MH patients it seems and yet you can lock autistic and learning disabled people up for years in beds they don’t even need and shouldn’t be in. The solution isn’t more beds’ @rcpsych ! It’s better community care.
