Dear Pitcher,
When you ask me to stand while you warm up, please don’t shuffle to 45’ and spike a rocket at my ankles. Sorry, can’t cover all that. 😂🤷♂️
Sincerely,
Every Catcher
This is my favorite change up. Made this video for a minor leaguer a few years ago and have shared it w a bunch of guys. Might have been thrown in big league pin stripes last year. 🤫 Easy to learn. Tends to spike at 1st, so sight it up.
@PitchingNinja
@FlatgroundApp
To all the haters banging on TBR/FBR 100 mph running throws: I challenge you to pick up anything..anything.. a bottle cap, a wine cork, a pebble, a stuffed koala... ANYTHING... and throw it 100 mph. It’s a great accomplishment for these guys. How about we just celebrate it.
Call today from another dad. Son is a senior 81-83 mph RHP w no scholarship or walk-on offers.”What you can do for him after he takes his 2-3 month break from overhand throwing?” 🤔Hmm.We can help him pick out a tux for the prom so he can enjoy his last year as a baseball player?
Telling me a pitcher has tendinitis is like telling me he has a left eyebrow. It’s not a tendon problem. It’s a motor control problem. The tendon is inflamed, because a movement dysfunction places it under unattenuated stress. Solve the motor control problem to solve the pain.
Vibe I hear among HS/college athletes is that they’re tired of being labeled lazy, entitled & averse to hard work. My take: they’re really smart & they intuitively sniff out ill-conceived, ineffective training. They want to work hard.They just don’t want to work on stupid stuff.
Chasing at large bids w 40 wins & RPI, D1 programs lean on about 7 pitchers all year. Injuries & fatigue hit at playoff time. Every year a guy with like 8 IP during the season emerges & propels his team on a deep tournament run. Message: Work while you wait. Your time is coming.
Dude worked so hard on this in the off season. Never missed a day. Never a minute late. Never left a minute early. Trains like he’s behind schedule. Plays like he’s right on time. Incredible human.
We did it! Incredible effort by our staff, Ash Enterprises, and my brother Tim, the penultimate mountain man who can do anything. The new Florida Baseball ARMory is up and running. Can’t wait to see all our SAVAGE family members in our new home.
🔥Hot tip. Bend your back leg & look down at your toes. If you can’t see your toes (because your knee is covering them) you’re lunging, not hinging. If you can see your toes, you’re hinging. This might be important for controlling your pelvis, which the center of your universe.
There are no good or bad bullpens. There are no good or bad BP rounds.They’re workouts, not tryouts. Question is: Did you learn something that will transfer to the game?
Middle son, Captain Ryan Sullivan (FL National Guard) gave up baseball after a year of Juco “to help people and be a part of something bigger” than himself. Currently leading a search, rescue & recovery mission in SW Florida. Couldn’t be more proud. Love you son. Go get ‘em.
Per high level MLB data guys:7% of 0-0 center cut FB are put in play for hits.3% for 0-0 middle-middle CB. MLB pitchers miss target by avg of 12” every pitch. My take:Throw everything right down the middle. You’ll stay ahead. Work fast & defense will ⬆️ Doesn’t seem complicated.
26 years watching my boys. Wouldn’t trade a minute! Backyard cage was our sanctuary.Elbow hurts every day. Can’t open a carton of milk. And you know what? It was so worth it. ❤️

So ... today was a big day a the Ranch. Our friends at Archein Aerospace delivered a force plate sensored mound and flat ground/hitting pad. Real time ground reaction force data linked with 200 fps video. It's a game changer.
9 years ago
@TXBaseballRanch
and

were considered radicals & heretics by mainstream baseball. Last week 1/2 of MLB came to our summit to learn about our approach to training players.Let that sink in. It’s humbling. Credit to the

who kicked the door down
When it comes to “investing in player development”, the focus should shift from simply buying "technology" to investing in skilled coaches who excel at teaching. Tech has its merits, but it's essential to remember that people will always hold more significance than machines.
World, meet my precious Grandson, Wesley. Hard to imagine I’m a grandpa when I’m like 12 years old in my mind. This child will be loved so much, for so long, by so many. Congratulations
@alyleigh1213
& Ryan. Love you.
Can’t tell you how proud I am of this guy. Not a good showcase player. But a great teammate and leader. He plays best when it matters most. A fighter without fear. His teams win games. Now he’s a pro. Be a great teammate. Be a winner. Someone will notice.
Ahem.
Pitching is not ALL about velocity.
It’s not ALL about command.
It’s not ALL about movement, shape or spin.
It’s not ALL about arm health & recovery.
It’s not ALL about “mental toughness.”, deception, or pitch sequencing.
It IS ALL ABOUT ALL OF THEM.
#wewantitall
Human tissue has no free will. If you stretch it, it’s gotta get longer, if you strengthen it, it’s gotta get stronger. Don’t give me your “genetics” cop out. Do the work.
High school tryouts in Florida last week. Opening day in 2 weeks. Ironically, the governing body that imposes draconian pitch count restrictions also mandates this obscenely short rampup period. Pitch counts won’t help. Steep ramp up could hurt. 🤦♂️
Pretty cool life experience. Got to throw out the first pitch at the
@RaysBaseball
vs
@USFBaseball
game ... to my son
@j_sully_5
Thank you to everyone who made it happen. 👊🤘
PLEASE STOP! Self-Organization IS NOT “figure it out”(FIO).It IS designing a training experience that manipulates the environment, task &/or organism to encourage the body to discover more efficient pathways while discouraging him from choosing less productive movement solutions.
Being the Dad of 3 boys has been the greatest joy of my life. If you told me I had 30 minutes to live, I’d say, “Tell the boys to get their gloves and bats and meet me in the cage.” ❤️
Just caught 2 pro bullpens on Instagram Live with no signs. Sign stealing scandal is over. Pitchers, throw whatever you want. Catchers catch the ball! 😂😂😂💪💪
Not a fan of "Hip-to-Shoulder Separation" & "Getting Extension." IMO these terms have been misinterpreted & corrupted. Want "separation?" Delay forward rotation of the back side of the pelvis (hip lock). Want "extension?" Close the front door of the pelvis.
Amen Kyle. If doctors told me I had 30 minutes to live, I’d say, “Get my 3 boys and tell em to meet me at the batting cage. I wanna throw some BP and catch a couple of pens on my way out.” Truth is, baseball allowed us to trick our sons into spending some time with us. 😍😀
Drove by a field tonight. Dad and son together with a bucket of balls. This is the foundation of sports.
One generation showing the next generation. Dads aren’t perfect and they often need guidance. What needs to stop is the guilt youth coaches place on Dads.

Wow! Congrats my son, 1LT Ryan Sullivan(currently deployed in the Middle East)& his beautiful wife
@alyleigh1213
. - having a boy! Looks like
@FLBaseballRanch
will continue for a lot longer! Saw the ultrasound & noted his movement pattern. Already working on a training plan. 🙏
Coached my kids in Little League. It fascinated me how the adults responsibly limited innings/pitch counts,yet every Saturday there was a continuous 14-hour wall ball game against the side of the concession stand.Looking back, that was probably the better training than practice🤔
So excited! Ryan is back from deployment in Kuwait just in time to kiss his beautiful wife
@alyleigh1213
before for the birth of their son, Wesley! Thought he might miss it, but Aly & Wesley held on! 🙏🙏prayers answered.

. As the season begins, the time for massive adjustments ends. As Derek Johnson says. It’s time to be over the plate not the rubber. You can only change 3 things during the game: Tension, Target, Tempo. The 3Ts of In Game Adjustment.
Finally! 2 1/2 years and nearly 70,000 words later, the new book is in final formatting and publishing. SAVAGE Revolution: Overthrow The Status Quo In Baseball Pitcher Development. Opening the vault for a deep look inside the magic of SAVAGE Training. Can't wait to share it!
When the ball is in play, There is never ... repeat NEVER! a reason to JOG between bases. Run like your butt’s on fire and you’re looking for water! Or just quit and try out for the crew team.
Sometimes I can’t believe I get to do this everyday...that this is my actual big boy job. Every client is a new puzzle, a new challenge. It’s exciting & humbling to be entrusted with helping them find solutions & then guiding them as they chase their dreams. It’s all pretty cool.
Ok, I'll say it. If I never hear the terms "hip-to-shoulder" separation" or "stride length" again, I'll be just fine. Muscles have a range within which they are optimally lengthened or stretched, and in the abs and glutes that bandwidth is narrow.
If your hat falls off on every pitch, that might be a problem.
Sensory information influences movement. When your head is still you get good information & you move better. When you move better, you get good information.
Keep your head still!
Kinda over the velo vs command argument. Who says they have to be mutually exclusive? I want
#ranchguys
to throw hard And throw strikes. They can be developed concurrently. Here’s a starting point ... don’t count your velo PR if it’s not a strike. 🤷♂️💪
“Use your legs!?” They shout.
As a result, lots of pitchers invest far too much in the “downness” of their load instead of the isometric “hingeness.”
You should only be as deep as you can control.
Holding rearward force while moving fast down the mound demands back hip…
Call today from a dad. Disappointed his son’s velo only increased by 1mph this year. “even though he grew 3 inches & gained 10 lbs.” Wish it was that easy. Velo rarely just shows up. The best way to increase velo is to execute a customized multifaceted plan. Hope is not a plan.
Very impressive. All baseball players need to be able to do this. It would come in handy if you ever found yourself threatened by a predator while immersed in a super thick memory foam mattress. You’d be able to power right out of it ... in about 12 seconds.
Remember our 2019
@Newtforce
study? The number 1 influencer of velocity was the athlete's weight.
Mass = Gas was true, but up to a threshold of about 180ish. You need to be big enough.
After that, the number 1 movement related variable was impulse. Rearward force created and the…
Overheard at last SAVAGE Camp:
Dad persuading 17 yo son to eject & train this fall vs taking 83-84 to showcases & travel ball tourneys:
“If you were going on a date with the prettiest girl in school, would you show up with bad breath, B.O., wrinkled clothes, & messed up hair?”
👏👏 Labrum repair is not a good surgery. Use self-organization principles to super-coordinate the musculature and tear becomes irrelevant. Linear deceleration is a big contributor. We've seen guys with MRI documented labrum tears return to pain free low/mid 90s w/out repair.
No, I can’t give you a drill that’ll immediately make you throw harder or eliminate your pain. But I can customize a training plan that will provide sensory information to encourage your body’s self-organization of a better movement solution. Then you’ll throw harder w less pain.
This kid is special. No ceiling! He’ll be able to do whatever he sets his mind to. So proud of his consistent commitment to excellence. Sheesh. 98.4. 🤦♂️🔥Came in as a scrawny 125 lb 9th grader topping at 68 mph. God doesn’t make junk. Human tissue doesn’t have free will.
Let's be honest. Using tech to identify mechanical flaws or ball flight metrics is not player development. It's scouting. If we can't teach the athlete new movement patterns that influence the data, we're basically banking on the Genetic Freak Theory.
#themovementcreatesthedata
Scraping? Cupping? Soft Tissue Work? The longer I do this, the less I think we can organize tissue from the outside. Getting blood to the area makes sense, but movement is often the best medicine. Maybe we should do a better job managing soreness with movement?

Over 15,000 evals since our humble beginnings 11 yrs ago. Despite, our incredible growth & an amazing staff, I’m proud to say I still personally handle all initial assessments & training plans. It means that much to me. It’s important. And I love doing it. Science becomes art.
Apparently ... if you want to get better at analyzing movement, it helps to watch movement. Since 2008, I’ve done just under 14,000 video analyses of pitchers. Seems, the more I do, the more I see. It’s fascinating.
Nothing screams "My trainer and I are out of ideas." more than a guy who comes in w traumatic scraping marks or cupping hickeys all over his body,then dry humps a foam roller or lacrosse ball for an hour before training. Too much facial disruption can reduce muscle force output.
My sweet 80 year old Mom

has been shut in since the pandemic began. She spent the time watching the outside world through this window while sewing over 450 masks. She donated them to hospitals, churches, military troops & FBR. ❤️ Happy Mother’s Day. Love you mom.
🧵(1/6)It's that time of year again. Every college team has a few guys that started the season w high hopes, had a couple of bad mid-week outings, & haven't pitched since. Chasing 40 wins & RPI, NCAA teams lean on about 7 pitchers all year. Injuries & fatigue hit at playoff time.

longtoss demonized(adds stress)2017 Weighted ball training demonized (adds stress). 2018 running throws? You MUST add stress. No stress,no adaptation. No stress = fragile arm. Add stress incrementally as tissue/motor control adapts.
