As distressing as the
@abc730
report was..and it was sickening..I'd rather know about it than not know. Everyone who loves horses should know that there is a minority of sick, cruel people who should be expunged from all horse pursuits. Lots has been achieved but more is required
Every morning for 4 years Rosehill master trainer Gerald Ryan has made a coffee for master trainer Gary Moore...white with one sugar. Yesterday we ran out of sugar.
Gerald - "Sorry Gary there's no sugar for your coffee."
Gary: "I don't take sugar."
4 years!!
Understand that Racing is entertainment, but watch the beaten horses panicking. This can't happen again. Simple fix, the horses must exit back through the tunnel.
I'm so sad to say that Naturalism - perhaps my favourite horse ever - died today at Meringo Stud. He was 29. I saw him only a month or two ago and he seemed so happy and vital. He was pound for pound the best horse I've laid a hand on. RIP old mate.
Subzero is the world's greatest living thoroughbred. He has lost his soul mate Graham Salisbury. Subbie will grieve in his own dignified way. Two champions - one now in Champions' heaven.
I have a horse called Celebris. He's an honest provincial horse. He became gravely ill wth twisted intestine this morning. Needed expensive emergency to save his life. His owners Andrew and Doug never flinched. These are the racing people I respect.
From the pimply kid who arrived from Perth and moved in with Sally and I to the GOAT who retired today. It's been an incredible story that he has written, and now the book is closed. A true epic.
Retirement done right 👏🏻

Am I the only racing person who thinks twilight and late start race meetings make life for stable staff unnecessarily difficult? We already have 7/week racing. By the time staff get horses bedded down after the last...It's bedtime. Doesn't affect administrators. It's too much.
As a trainer+owner, and having 45yrs exp in many facets of racing, I'm convinced lowering costs to own and train racehorses should be a priority. No good having a huge lottery prize if nobody can afford a ticket.
My 2 cents...regardless of wet bulb and heat management stages...at some point you have to say "its just too hot to ask horses to race". I know the financial repercussions but hey...if there's any risk...call it early. Please don't put them on trucks for hours and then call it.
We mostly choose our favourite pastimes when very young. Racing waits until you're 18 to drink and bet at the races..way too late and for the wrong reasons. The footy codes engage kids when they can pick up a ball. Racing must engage kids with the horse. Retweet if you agree.
I just tried to read a news article about someone who identifies as "non-binary". Only they/them pronouns were used. I couldn't tell how many people were involved but apparently only one.
Have we really become this stupid?
Have I missed the
@abcnews
piece on the thousands of brumbies about to be destroyed in Kosiousko? I caught the one on the thoroughbreds at the abbatoir last year. Let me know when it's on.
Our first season at Rosehill and my first back training for 15 years. We started with 4 fit racehorses last August and we trained the winners of over $1m this season. We kept our strike-rate high, and we have grown the stable. It's a credit to my great team and our loyal owners.
If people want to seriously protest about Djokovic and not just blow hot air....don't attend or watch his matches. If enough people do that the message will be sent.
Today was a big day. Won a $2m
@inglis_sales
race with Prime Star - a $55k purchase - for some great mates + snuck into the top 10 on the NSW trainers' premiership in our first full season together. Hope we can stay there. Very grateful to those who supported us on the journey.
I feel so sad about the broodmares that died in the truck accident at Muswellbrook today. They only get on trucks because we ask the to. Perspective is a bitch.
If there are any interstate trainers who need to send their horses to Sydney for big races and can't because of staff travel restrictions, Michael and I are happy to look after a few for you. Just DM me.
Credit to
@RacingVictoria
and
@FlemingtonVRC
for staging a safe Melbourne Cup. Whether you agree with the high veterinary standards applied (I do) or not, we can all be happy and relieved that there was no serious incident in the race this year. Long may it continue this way.
And the only day of the year we don't race in Australia...
I think all trainers and their staff would like a few more days like this under the Christmas tree.
I not a fan of the way new grandstands at racetracks tier everyone by wealth - private boxes, special "clubs" etc. When everyone mixed more - battlers with silvertails - the raceday experience was more fun IMO.
Gladys has finally lost her nerve. This is not a national state of emergency. People aren't dying in numbers and our 2000 ICU beds have about 1800-1900 capacity left. Calm the f#&K down.
King Of Hastings wins R6 at Randwick after travelling 3 deep outside the leader...no cover.
I say to Chris Williams "Thats the worst ride you'll ever ride on a winner."
Chris replies: "You're wrong.
I've ridden one worse and still won on it."
Too good for me.🥴
I didnt think her horse Gytrash would beat Nature Strip but Valerie Gordon (92yo) has a great horse and was a marvel
@royalrandwick
today when she accepted the sash. Go Valerie
The Voice...
I don't want to be lobbied by either side. Give me the detail- I'll male my own decision.
This referendum is about future benefit, not the past IMO.
Projecting guilt upon today's generations for historical indescretions of others is particularly offensive to me.
This is the standard of human protesting against horseracing.
Meanwhile, horses are literally being fatally wounded and slaughtered from aircraft in Kosciusko National Park.
Probably a bit far for these soft flogs to go to help them.

event on Melbourne Cup Day
It contains some of the most vile hatred you will see anywhere
Sitting Victorian AJP MP
@georgievpurcell
widely promoted and attended this event.
Thanks to my team this week. I have a small team of horsepeople who love and respect horses. In return the horses trust them. It makes a HUGE difference.
I've only seen our
@RFSCommissioner
Shane Fitzsimmons on TV. He looks to be doing the job of 3 men. Gives true meaning to "public service". Goodonya mate.
My kooky staff have "The Golden Horseshoe" which hangs on the stable of the most recent winner. Maddie strapped her first winner today Chilled Rose and was delighted to remove "TGH" from Deepak's winner On The White Turf. Poor old Deepak only had it 5 days.
Political bankruptcy in Australia never seemed so clear as now. We pay big money for these peanuts to administer our nation, what do we get?...ego-driven, payback politics from medieval dog-whistlers. Just sad.
Good day today. One thing we encourage all stable staff to do is to talk to the horses...a lot. Its easy to scold horses when they misbehave, but it's better to praise them when they do well. You find you're praising a lot more than scolding. It makes a difference in performance.
Do we really need to brand t'breds anymore? I know it's convenient but we already have markings, microchips and DNA tests. T'breds in the northern hemisphere aren't branded. Surely we can live without it if they can.
Yesterday's cancellation of
@newcastleraces_
is nobody's fault. Horses arrived distressed from the journey to the track. Hot days happen. Need to address notification cut-off times. If 39+ is predicted by BOM on raceday - cancel at 07:30. 90% of time will be a correct decision.
So now we have a 9yo making news for...well...being a 9yo. This county's media is turning into a joke. Seriously..a 9yo who won't stand up for the Anthem? This is national news?
#nannystategonemad
And the
@abcnews
will do nothing about the cruelty of aerial culling of horses. Foals starving, belly shots, wounded horses slowly dying in agony, while cowardly politicians dine in restaurants and attend openings.
C'mon
@abcnews
. Your initial story was a valid expose which will bring change. However leading News with calls for Royal Commission re an email exchange about a poor horse which might have slipped through the cracks last year? Be fair please.
IMO if maiden races paid really big BOBS on top of prizemony...big enough to repay a significant chunk of purchase price...more owners would reinvest, horses easier to sell, more horses would start racing in NSW. Load the $$ from bottom and peg $$ at top. More owners benefit.
Stop writing sport clueless. Do you think all that Williams vitriol would have appeared if she was winning at the time? Ump should ignore the rules eh? A shameful display.
Comment: Nobody has ever seen anything like it - an umpire that so wrecked a big occasion that both players wound up with tears streaming down their face
I hope
@abcnews
are as committed to preventing cruelty to these horses as they were for racehorses at the Qld abattoir. Aerial culling is barbaric. If they're not as committed....well...that would be hypocrisy wouldn't it? Big "expose" surely coming soon
Note To Self: Training a suprise 40-1 winner without tipping it to your mates results in them calling you a range of vile names (some including references to a goat).
I was helping a friend to find a safe haven from fires for some mares and foals. Ollie Tate from
@TwinHillsStud
didn't hesitate to accept them. Good people. They deserve all the luck that comes their way.
It's been a great 2 weeks - 7 winners - our last 6 starters have all won. Nobody wins a race without a great team: grooms, track riders, vet, farriers, jockeys, physios, etc. Thank you all. Bondi Boy No6:
Win, lose or draw I'm proud to have taken Auvray from the outhouse to a Melbourne Cup. Its hard to do in Australia now. Thanks to my team.
Opinion: Melbourne Cup lacking fairytale to capture nation's heart
Its been a good day for
@willfreedman
but also for his partner Rachel Hunt. She has worked very hard with Will to start their stable. It's her day too.
One of the good days. Stay Inside wins at Randwick and Express Princess wins at Doomben.
@willfreedman
wins his first metro race at Randwick with Birdonawinningpost. Tonight all is well in the world. 😉😄
@Peter_Fitz
The whole concept of lobbying voters for yes/no is wrong IMO. A referendum is not supposed to be a choice between party politics. It is supposed to be a personal choice between ideas based on facts and information, which has now been turned into a political circus.
Maybe State Govts can use this Covid19 crisis to get rid of payroll tax altogether. It's a bad tax. It costs jobs. It shouldn't exist. Businesses should not be taxed for creating jobs for people.
If you won't get an AstraZeneca jab because it poses too much risk of death...you better hand in your driver's licence. Hundreds die from that every year. Hmmmm?
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Encosta De Lago at the age of 25. A multiple champion sire and current reigning champion broodmare sire, Encosta De Lago will be remembered as one of the greatest Australian-bred sires of all time.
Subzero has put a smile on thousands of faces and tomorrow we celebrate his 30th birthday.
Here is only a snippet of the wonderful work he does... You're our hero Subbie. ❤️
The republic...my 2 cents (might be with 0 cents):
The last thing I want to do is make a politician head of state. Surely they've done more than enough to prove they're unworthy.
A shipment of feed for the stable was delivered accidentally to my old home address, where I haven't lived for 18 months. My old postie Al was walking by and spotted it. He called me, then picked it up in his own car, after he finished his round, and delivered it. What a CHAMPION
"The NSW Premier says she is not going to play the "blame game" over who is responsible for the Ruby Princess cruise ship fiasco" - Just as predicted - It will be nobody's fault. Who'd have thought...
When someone can provide me with hard facts (not concocted studies paid for by VRC/RVL) that spending $m's to get international horses here and sending them home with $m's more of our p'money is good for AUS racing...I'll listen. Until then...crock.
I know this is self indulgent but we had a bit of water damage at my house so we unpacked some trophies to dry out. There are 6 more boxes yet to open.
Edward Cummings joins his grandfather, father and brother as Group 1 winning trainers! Duais looked the winner on the turn, taking out the James Squire Queensland Oaks in dominant fashion.

This is no "small dip in numbers", this is a trend over some years. Raceclubs should review their positioning in the leisure market. Sky-high household debt, stagnant wage growth. Ave people can't afford much of the toff-tier pricing.
I patted
@tommelbourne2
at the track this week. Nobody told me it was contagious. Last 11 runners = 7 second placings. I did throw a winner in there so maybe I only have a mild dose.
We've had a VERY good day. We are a happy crew almost all the time anyway. Great work team - 6 winners in 13 days and 5 in a row. Old Bandit is loving life and showed what he CAN do when he wants to.
Thanks all. TBH all the COVID testing and isolation rules are window dressing now. They have close to zero effect. I understand the fear for the truely vulnerable. but surely we are now treating the virus like a very contagious flu.
This little girl was found alone in KNP where aerial culling was happening. Foals only days old were shot. Thankfully, she was found by people who care and deal with the fallout, while those responsible for the slaughter spend Christmas with family.
Registering and naming racehorses is an expensive, laborious, paperwork-nightmare now.
@RacingAust
added more this week for yearlings. It's the digital age..about time we caught up.
Golden Horseshoe, for most recent winner in the yard, has taken an alarming turn. Cinquedea (stable name "Barry') had a Barry White song for his last win... and now this. His carer Tiarna...may need a carer. 😂😆😂Good onya Barry...
