have announced a drop-in session for their Station Street plans on 16th May between 12-7pm @ Birmingham Open Media, 12 Dudley Street, B'ham, B5 4EA. We encourage everyone concerned about the future of The Electric & Station St to attend!
Birmingham New Street Station had 30.7m passengers last year.
Why is our most famous musical venue and beautiful 149 yr old pub The Crown closed and on the corner of a road used as a rat run by cars when it sits directly outside a venue with 30.7 million passengers annually?
Going to be giving The Old Rep a bit of love the next couple of days because
#SaveStationStreet
is about how we treat our three incredible cultural institutions that have changed the world. The Old Rep, The Electric and The Crown. The whole street is so important to our city.

Brian Cox, acting legend & patron of The Old Rep, backs calls to
#SaveStationStreet
- we need security for The Old Rep - not rolling short term leases. We need to guarantee its future for generations of Brummies along with The Electric Cinema & The Crown:
So proud to be just a small part of the rebel alliance standing up for Birmingham and our incredible creative communities and institutions. As someone who has zero arts skills (but can do a petition) there are SO many incredibly inspiring Brummies
Birmingham is so full of iconic historic buildings still. Don't let developers demolish The Electric.
The UK's oldest cinema opened in 1909.
The same period as our wonderful Moseley Rd Baths.
Both are vital to Birmingham's rich story of civic pride.
Moseley Road Baths in Birmingham are one of England's most complete examples of an Edwardian Bath House. 🏊♂️
They are the only Baths in the country built before 1914 to have continuously hosted swimming since they opened.
Have you been for a swim in these iconic baths?
I don't understand how this keeps growing. Don't tell anyone but I have literally no idea what I'm doing. I'm just a spreadsheet nerd into running, old buildings and sitting/standing in dark arts venues so I don't have to speak to people for 2-3 hours
Few people articulate the beauty of Brum's history & culture like Steven Knight; creator of

52 days since The Vyse Family &
@Glenbrookprop
forced The Electric to close. We're meeting them tomorrow at a meeting between various parties on both sides. Fair warning to them... We're expecting answers to these q's on Station Street.
Look. It goes without saying that any plans to sell part of the public path around Edgbaston Reservoir to a private company would be monumentally stupid without in perpetuity access for the public.
Time to get The Crown restored to its former glory & open as a thrilling city centre live music venue then get The Electric listed. Give Birmingham a Station St full of small arts venues on one street that makes it the envy of every other city in the UK
An Open Letter to Landholders of The Electric, The Crown & Station Street.
We have today directly emailed the landholders of The Electric, The Crown and Station Street asking them to make their plans public so the people of Birmingham can fully understand proposals
Joe Holyoak has written a super profile on the history of Station Street, it's artistic, architectural & cultural merits and where it sits in the grander Birmingham Council architectural plan. He's really managed to capture the tension felt in the city
It's worth after a few weeks reiterating the focus of our campaign to
#SaveStationStreet
- The closure of The Electric was the catalyst but we're looking at the whole street and how it should be treated by the Land Owners and developers... 🧵
We are so sad to see our old Clifton building on fire. There are many of us who have happy memories of teaching here or being a pupil. I started teaching here in 1997 and Mrs Hemming in 1995 Share your story with us ❤️😢

It's genuinely mental that the landowners of The Electric inherited a load of land from The Smalbroke family in 1805 who in turn had acquired loads of Birmingham after HENRY VIII's dissolution of the monasteries in 1536. And we're having to fight for our Station Street in 2024

Greater Birmingham has 30,000 hotel rooms. And 75% occupancy. That's £8.2m p/yr at just £1 a night tourist tax.
Imagine the cultural projects we could fund with that.
We need to have a serious discussion about what we want our city to be. At this rate Birmingham will just be bland 2 bed skyscraper flats for rent at prices no Brummies can afford and zero culture

As a former librarian the importance of libraries to some of the most vulnerable cannot be overstated.
From keeping people warm, stopping the onset of loneliness, internet access to seeing people get life changing jobs. Not too mention inspiring a love of books in children.
We are holding a read-in at Kings Heath Library on Saturday 23 March from 2 to 4pm to protest the council's proposals to close over 2/3 of our community libraries and reduce staffing levels. Come along, read a book and show solidarity!
We're pleased to announce that after a world wide tendering process to bring The Birthplace of Heavy Metal back into life as a gig venue...

Incredible work by
@brumdispatch
to get answers to a lot of the questions we've been been stonewalled on.
We're clear. Station Street needs to be a cultural small hubs offer for the Midlands that plays on it's history but offers future Brummies inspirational arts opportunities.
Getting the truth about the future of Station Street out of most of the various players involved is like drawing blood from a stone.
And trust us — there are a lot of players involved. A pen and paper might come in handy.
Look. If you're going to start a campaign on twitter to save a heritage building you can't get a much stronger start than a dog dressed as a lion outside a pub called The Golden Lion.
Once you've read this ask

& MPs to publicly support proposals to turn Station St. into a cultural small venue offer w/
@BOMlab
& other Brummies who see a future 'By Brum, For Brum, At The Heart of the City".

The Benjamin Zephaniah Library of Handsworth would be a nice tribute considering the power that a love of words gave him.
Also, good luck trying to close that one down without city wide pitchforks at dawn.
Birmingham City Council has said it will support the family of Benjamin Zephaniah to create a "long-lasting" tribute to celebrate the life of the beloved poet

A new bridge will be a waste of money when we do the inevitable; remove the concrete belt that separates our city from the JQ. It's a sticking plaster on a broken leg. Might as well just do the inevitable now as it only costs more later.
The Vyse family also own The Old Rep - The UK's oldest Rep Theatre. It was leased to Birmingham Ormiston Academy in 2014. On a 5yr + 5x1yr extensions. The lease is up imminently. We know BOA have been trying to renegotiate. We know they have no shows booked after May 10...
