8 years. It will never get easier. I will never stop missing you, Dylan. I will never stop doing my best to honor your sweet life. I will never learn to grieve you, because my heart can never let you go. You will never be forgotten and I will love you with every breath I take. 💜
Seven years ago started as a normal Friday morning.
After getting Dylan and Jake on the bus, I did chores until I left for an exercise class. While driving to class, I felt a sharp pain in my stomach, so bad that I almost pulled over to the side of the road, convinced I was...
Today it's been 2,474 days since Dylan was murdered at Sandy Hook. 2,474 days since he's been gone from my life. He was only in my life for 2,473 days. I feared today. Would him being gone longer than he was here mean I would forget him?
Saturday, 12/14, marks 7 years since the Sandy Hook tragedy. Learn more about each family at . And learn more about how we choose to honor Dylan by visiting and . Thank you.

This is why we do what we do at Sandy Hook Promise and Dylan’s Wings of Change. This is a story no parent should need to tell. This unbearable grief is one that families should not feel. Children should be included, protected and safe...
Hi
@StephenAtHome
. Thanks for your public support of my family and others whose children were murdered at Sandy Hook. Agreed that Marjorie Taylor Greene has no place in Congress or on the House's Education Committee.
You didn't come to me in my dreams last night. But I dreamt of nothing but you. 💜
To our beautiful butterfly,
No words exist to express how much we love you. Nor how much we miss you.
Dylan Christopher Jack Hockley
3/8/2006 - 12/14/2012
Hey beautiful boy. Something happened today. Something good. I’m grateful for all the people that never gave up. I’m hopeful for the families that will never know how this helped them. And I’m crying because I’ll always remember why we are here. 💜
going to be ill. It quickly passed.
Looking back, I still wonder about that moment. Was it my imagination? A woman’s intuition? Or did I feel the moment my 6-year-old son’s life was taken, shot five times in his first-grade class at Sandy Hook School?...
I did not find Dylan.
Then, like many other parents, I was asked to go to the back room of the fire house. And so the waiting began.
And more waiting.
And then…agony.
Seven years ago started as a normal Friday morning. And nothing has ever been normal since....
During my class, the call came from a friend. A shooting at our school.She was scared and asked me to go find her son. I collapsed to the floor.Friends picked me up and one drove me to the school.I found my other friend’s son. I felt joy at finding my eldest, my 8-year-old boy...
His laugh, his eyes, the smell of his hair, his voice, the feel of his hand in mine? I am sad today, but I no longer have fear. I have forgotten nothing. My son lives on in my heart, in my soul, in the memories of our family and friends and in the work of me and his Daddy.
I was humbled to spend time with
@cameron_kasky
&
@sofiewhitney
on Friday. Here is an incredibly short excerpt. They’re right - they are the future and we need to listen to them.💜
Thinking of Dylan, on what should have been his 15th birthday. I love him and miss him every day. Thank you for remembering our beautiful butterfly. 💜 Sharing one of the videos from his memorial service:
The hole in my heart will never heal, but today I will celebrate Dylan on what should be his 16th birthday. I will always miss him, I will always love him, and I will never stop working to honor him through helping others. (1 of 2)
"I think focusing on things that have nothing to do with the Second Amendment, background checks, extreme risk protection orders and safe storage, that's the way to go," Nicole Hockley, managing director of Sandy Hook Promise, says on gun reform.
8 years ago today Background Checks failed in the Senate. We stood together in the Rose Garden, devastated, and recommitted to our promise to save lives. This is the year it must pass. Demand Congress take action to

Thank you dear friends and family for remembering Dylan today - the day he should have turned 14 years old. He is still with us in our hearts and memories, still laughing, still playing, and still loving the moon. 💜🦋💜

Today is the day I dread the most.I want to focus on the wonderfulness of him in my life.But I can’t.I cry as I think of the life that could have been, that SHOULD have been.Tomorrow I will fight , I just miss my beautiful baby boy.

Heartbroken & angry. We have the solutions, yet mostly don’t use them. Why? Because too many people love guns more than children, & fight against solid measures like ERPOs & secure storage. Praying for the families; pissed off at cowards and profiteers.
All the people calling for photos and videos of shooting victims to be published - when it is YOUR child, parent, loved one, you get to choose. For those of you sharing the videos and photos of Allen, TX without those families permission, shame on you.
Still my favorite ever Facebook post, made 9 years ago, before Dylan was killed. "I admit to not being sure if heaven exists. But then I hear Dylan laugh and realize it's right in front of me."
19 out of 20 murderers have no mental illness diagnosis.
4 out of 5 mass shooters have no mental illness diagnosis, and half showed no signs on a prior, undiagnosed illness.
Framing this as just a mental illness problem is a gun industry trope. Period. Stop.

I’m not convinced. Emmet Till died in 1955. With today’s high quality cinematography & effects, people are desensitized to violent imagery. As a mom, I fought to protect SH crime photos. Pictures of my 6-year old, shot 5 times, are not how he should be remembered.
Very happy to be back in my own bed tonight. Thursday will be the hardest day, his birthday. He would have been 12. It rips my heart just to think about it.
The House just passed the Background Check bill 240-190. It’s taken 6 years - but finally progress on closing loopholes in the existing law. On to the Senate and hoping they do the right thing!!!
Traveling to DC for
@POTUS
President Biden’s announcements today on actions to stop the gun violence epidemic killing our nation. Proud to represent
@sandyhook
and our supporters.
Wonderful celebration today - and it absolutely was a CELEBRATION - of all the lives that will be saved from this step forward. Bittersweet for many of us,but thankful everyone that made this happen, incl
@sandyhook
for being in the room, drafting text & working across the aisle.
8 years ago, 20 children and 6 educators never came home from Sandy Hook.
Families were devastated. The nation was heartbroken. And then our leaders failed to act, so we all stood up.
Today and always we remember those who should still be with us—and honor them with action.
If votes go differently today than I hope, I will be upset but then get up tomorrow and fight even harder for what is right. If votes go as I hope, I will celebrate and STILL wake up tomorrow and continue to fight harder for what is right.
No apology. No compassion. No remorse. No accountability.

Me, my surviving son & my mother. We marched for Dylan & all the children like him. We marched for the future he should have had, & what we will help deliver for others.

It’s the first day of a new school year for Marjory Stoneman Douglas High. My heart is with the parents, survivors, siblings, friends and students in the community. It’s harder than you can possibly imagine. 💜

who just released the "Bipartisan Safer Communities Act" with actions for gun violence prevention, safety and mental wellness. Contact Congress now and urge a vote this week!
Today’s
@washingtonpost
. 12 pages to list every mass shooting since 1966 and name the 1,196 victims since the Sandy Hook massacre in 2012. If all gun violence victims were listed, it would probably take around 200 pages. It’s past time to end this.
@sandyhook
Nothing like being stopped in your tracks and feeling your heart ache suddenly seeing a photo from just moments after learning your son had been killed. No parent, no child, nobody should ever experience this.
@sandyhook
This may always be my favorite FB post. From 3/18/12, at Dylan's 6th B'day party. "I admit to not being sure if heaven exists. But then I hear Dylan laugh and realize it's right in front of me."
Off to DC to celebrate the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act with so many that worked tirelessly in this movement. Very honored Jake is here & thankful for

supporters who advocated & pressed Congress to pass the most significant gun safety bill in almost 30 years!

"I often minimize my pain. I say, 'grief is grief, and loss is loss' – as if it’s equal. But losing a child is incomparable. I have to prevent other parents from feeling this all-consuming pain – even if it means re-traumatizing myself." –

On a day when 10 more innocents were killed, FB memories brings me Dylan and his kindergarten solo in England. When will our country wake up? These tragedies are preventable, so PREVENT THEM! (1/2)
Back from marking what would have been Dylan’s 12th birthday with friends to find out that Jake’s school has received a shooting threat. WTF People!! WTF!!!!!
As a nonpartisan/kid-partisan organization, we work with all elected officials to help keep kids safe from violence and self-harm. Looking forward to continuing the work with the President Elect.

For all the parents saying what a 17 year old boy does doesn’t matter....is that what you tell your 15 year old daughter when she’s been assaulted?
#BelieveSurviors
President Trump says if Tree of Life Synagogue had "some kind of a protection inside the temple," the perpetrator of today's shooting could have been stopped: "They didn't, and he was able to do things that unfortunately he shouldn’t have been able to do.”
Schools across the country on alert following the “National Shoot Up Your School Day” challenge being spread on Tik Tok. The originator of this sick message needs to be found. Kids are scared enough about school shootings - they don’t need this.
Today. 10am. Students should do this and parents/schools should support them. Empower them & amplify their voices. This is practical education in standing up for what you believe - the best lesson.
@sandyhook
@cameron_kasky
Totally agree. It’s this bill AND much more. Don’t block progress because you don’t get everything you want at the same time. Focus on the “AND”.
@CreggLund
@JaclynCorin
Because when my son was killed at Sandy Hook, I made it my life’s mission to prevent tragedy. We don’t charge because $$ should never be a barrier to saving a life. I have no ego, no agenda. I just want to save lives, because I couldn’t save my son.
To the families, loved ones, and broken and healing hearts of Sandy Hook, I know. No matter how long it’s been, every time you talk about it, you relive it as though you just heard the news. Eight years later, I know the pain never fully heals.
