Rubber bullets are designed to hit the ground first & even then are dangerous. Studies acknowledge they aren’t “safe.” They cause death, blindness, bone fractures, organ damage... They maim. Police are intentionally shooting people in the head and face. The police are hunting.

The US is established on genocide and looted Native land, labored by looted and enslaved peoples. People made property. Britain even stole the word looting when it looted India. Laws of property exist so we don’t take our shit back. Those who loot are usually those looted first.

Our American apocalypse is maybe the best way to start new. Indigenous peoples have survived apocalypse, yet still wake up & imagine, in a Nation designed to kill us. Now you’re here too in the apocalypse your ancestors made. It’s morning now, morning is when revolutions start.

I know some of you get tired of me repeating it but it’s illogical to have any conversation about American gentrification, whiteness, race, feminism, violence, language, art, etc if you don’t include and account for Native/Indigenous peoples in this American experience.

Poetry could have an important a role in resistance and reminding us of the costs/worth of freedom & love. But it requires we poets quit being silent for fear we won't get likes/follows on social media, or that we might not get nominated for a prize or reading. Make poetry work.

As you “celebrate” earth “day,” consider those who’ve been robbed of it, bled into it, worked into it, crossed it in the most badlands of places, for their lives. These violent intimate relationships with land/water/earth make us related and strong. I’m celebrating this relation.

May our loves for one another easily rise to the wars this world demands of us daily, and let our loves also be so fierce in tenderness for one another that they field, garden, erupt of bloom and thorn, through and into a wildness where those wars find no nourishment on us.

The new (but really same and perpetual) Colonialism. Murdering for land. Life isn’t sacred to whom appetites for property. Israel and US need each other, to forget their deeds, to absolve the other of genocides, so they can continue murdering for land. Land they then murder too.

Some mornings I wake up and day is not waiting heavy at the foot of my bed--it's a bright, soft thing I enter of/with my own desire. Like today. I don't know what brings day to me in this form--only that it's lucky to arrive at them, to think of them as a love someone wished me.

Saretta wanted a drink for the day. I created this & she named it: Juneteenth In the Valley. We’re in Mohave Valley & this melon grew down the road. Our Mojave afterlife is full of ripe melons that regrow when plucked. We send you love and imagination, from the Morgan-Diaz house.

My spell check has finally stopped autocorrecting to the word “ducking,” and it feels right on time.

Anxiety uniform 🤷🏽‍♀️. I believe in the work I’m involved in in the university & it’s a place that makes me extremely anxious. It’s lucky to so far organize that energy toward imaginations. Having a consistent way to arrive on campus helps ground me. I’m living dangerous w the grey.

I’m one of those who don’t know better. Cause I actually know better. & I know different. PEN makes a difference for some of you. The difference you mitigate. But I see PEN’s Zionism shining. I’m sick of poets going to the mat for Zionist orgs. So angry for PEN, not Palestine.

But now I'm seeing people--people who should know better, frankly--saying things like PEN is a fascist organization, that it hasn't done anything worthwhile, that it hasn't made a difference in fighting for free speech in the US. And frankly, that's bullshit. (8/14)

Many people don't know that in 2020 New York surpassed LA as the city with the largest urban Native/Indian population. It would be great if more organizations in New York engaged this population.
