Our milk man used to leave milk packets outside early in the morning but sometimes they were torn or leaking. He claims it’s a cat that’s doing it. So he’s started to take pictures of the milk he’s dropped off and any cats he sees near our apartment when he delivers milk 🐈

In this case if I as a user knew that I was actually taking a small loan that I would have to repay then I would simply not use the PayTM postpaid option. The fact that PayTM conceals this and doesn’t give me a choice makes this a dark pattern.

This feature does not allow users any choice in how they want to pay, because it doesn’t tell them whether they are spending their wallet balance or taking a loan. For Paytm - it means more postpaid users and more loans disbursed.

In general I try not to comment on other’s designs as it’s easy to judge the work in isolation, without knowing the org constraints and context that led to it looking this way. But when it’s a clear cut dark pattern like this someone has to.
