This. Is. Amazing!!!

The guy who burned down the car rental place by us in Midway St Paul was from Brainerd. Now two other guys from the exurbs charged in setting a fire in Minneapolis.
The rebuilding absolutely needs to be a statewide effort.
Federal authorities charged two suburban Twin Cities men with conspiring to set a Wells Fargo Bank building ablaze near the Fifth Precinct police station as riots over George Floyd's police killing raged in May.

Editor: “OK. We haven’t had as much engagement on social media recently. Anyone got any ideas?”
Intern who wandered in: “YEA. OK. So, social media is all about weird stuff. And - hear me out - I have this pet raccoon...”

@MprRaccoon
A couple young dudes in their 20s tried to walk right up to me and shake my hand in Midway.
When I backed up and said whoa we’re in a pandemic, one said “nah that’s all over man.”
This week has been crazy. But please keep distancing, wearing a mask, and staying safe as you can.
Counterpoint: having an urban stadium is cool because you’re close to actual humans and actual stuff. Adding more of that cool stuff is good.
(Obviously it *does* change the view. But don’t think it’ll hurt the environment overall. Target Field is great)

I believe "absolutely awesome" is the technical description for what the B Line is going to be. This thing is going to be absolutely smashed full of riders.
Public transit is about connecting people to their lives.
$28 million in federal funding is going to constructing the new METRO B Line - a project to connect Minnesotans in the Twin Cities along the Lake Street, Marshall Avenue, and Selby Avenue corridor.

Truly amazing MN passive aggressiveness story:
- Our lawn got a little long
- came home, saw it was cut yesterday, figured it was a neighbor returning favor for shoveling I’d done
- today, got a bill because someone called a lawn care person posing as the owner to have it cut
Able bodied shovelers: please don’t leave two feet of unshoveled deep snow because you’re not sure if it’s on your property or your neighbors. Please just shovel it. Someone in a wheelchair would get stuck because of whatever pettiness caused this.
You might ask, "Matt, how did you decide you wanted to work in government?"
And I'd say, it's because I get to interact with sweet gentlemen like this:
No joke. No political point.
If you have a puppy you think isn’t behaving well enough, please *do not fucking shoot it*. Bring it to a shelter. Ask a friend who loves dogs. Post on social media to re-home it. Anything.
This is honestly serial killer shit.
South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem appears to have confirmed that she killed a family puppy that infuriated her by being “untrainable,” and she claims it only proves how “politically incorrect” she is.

COUNTERPOINT: I very rarely think about Kirk Cousins, but when I do it’s because I remember he backs rapidly anti-LGBTQ+ organizations and supports harmful things like “conversion therapy” that can lead to harm and suicide for young folks.
Imagine living in a state where every white person hangs 17 Norway flags everywhere they go and when a Somali person hangs their flag it gets equated to right wing nuts encouraging civil war.

Starting October 1, I'll be leaving

at the St Paul City Council. It's tough to leave a truly amazing organization but I'm so excited to have the chance to work for such a fantastic leader ready to make local change!
Today, I'm incredibly thrilled to announce that
@MattPrivratsky
will be joining the Ward 4 team as my legislative & policy aide.
I couldn't be more excited about what Matt brings to the team, and our shared work together for our city.

Rep. Peggy Scott breaks out the dogwhistle: "It's bonkers that someone only has to give a physical description of where they live to register to vote. Maybe it's this big parking lot and there are lots of buses coming and going -- from Chicago. To and from Chicago."
Identical twin brothers Josh & Jeremy married identical twin sisters Brittany & Briana. Both couples gave birth to baby boys at the same time. Although technically cousins, the boys are genetically brothers. It gets more weird: Both families live together in the same house.
This building was empty for essentially my entire time living in St Paul. So absolutely psyched to see new neighbors coming to Midway in this reused, very cool building.
City of Saint Paul Planning & Economic Development
Check out the progress at Twelve22! The 55-unit affordable housing project is targeted to be done by late September.
The apartments at 1222 University Avenue will add 15 units at 30% AMI and 40 units at 60% AMI. The developer JB Vang has committed to 50 years of affordability.
You know that thing where stuff like the Summit Ave Trail is treated as “controversial” even as it’s approved 6-1 and the sales tax proposal is treated as up in the air even as it passes by 20 points?
We don’t have to keep pretending these common sense things are 50/50 in StP.
Final vote was 60-40%. St. Paul voters want their big roads redone. Not just patched. REBUILT. Going out to eat at places will be even pricier, but it seems we really don’t want to blow a tire getting there.
At the Loons match. Will Trapp is near us, play is stopped. He asks toward the sideline “anyone got any water?” in case a random staffer is there with a bottle. No one there, but a fan chucks a 3/4 full Aquafina 20 ft onto the field.
He drinks half. Justin Meram drinks the rest.
Good reminder that this idea is not controversial. It passed city council 6-1. Passed met council on unanimous/voice vote. It is borderline boring.
A few angry folks spending their excess money on a lawsuit and press events doesn’t mean a discussion is legitimately two sided.
TWIN CITIES BIKE TWITTER: Other than length of time, is it crazy to attempt a St Paul to Chanhassen ride? It seems like the bulk of it is on some kind of trail but I have never gone farther west than Hopkins. Let me know!
Quick reminder that Minnesota has actual political reporters you can follow. You don't need to follow national TV reporters who tweet the only six Minnesota politicians that they know.

This memo — the one that says a dozen people were exposed to confirmed COVID positive people and then went to a public indoor event with many others only days later rather than quarantining — is what they thought would be the *better* version of the story.
Think about that.
The simple fact is that COVID is not affecting Greater MN the same way as the metro, but the gov doesn't understand this. It's time for the gov to give up his emergency powers and reopen Minnesota. We can help him, if he will work with us.

Saying you want to “get back to a less divisive political environment” while you launch a primary challenge against a sitting President is some of the greatest political messaging dissonance I’ve ever seen.
I am running for President as a Democrat in 2024.

First and foremost, it will be about the economy. We have to make life more affordable for the middle class, which is the issue that voters care about most. We need to bring down the

It’s easy to experience public spaces only through your own lens. But seeing little details like this - where a wheel chair user can sit next to folks on the bench - is a great reminder to try and see spaces/systems outside your own personal experience.

This specific rendering of the possible redesign of 94 is particularly helpful. It shows how you can fit:
✅ dedicated bus/transit way
✅ dedicated bike/ped space
✅ plenty of tree/green cover
✅ AND multiple lanes for traffic

Every time I’ve even hinted at the possibility of removing I-94 between Mpls and St. Paul, I’ve been met with blank stares. But that might be changing with a new campaign that aims to shift the horizon of possibility for the Twin Cities’ most-used roadway.
ST PAUL ELECTION TAKE AWAYS
Sales Tax: I've said it a million times privately and publicly, but St Paul voters want to approve stuff. Citywide referendum pass because as long as they are even remotely logical, folks will vote in favor. Many years/examples to prove this. 1/
I’m told that volunteers are needed from 11am-6pm today at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Midway St Paul to distribute donations.
They received an incredible amount of donations yesterday, so the focus is on volunteers who can help distribute.

We electrified our house completely in the last year. Happy to answer Qs!
The global economy runs on 20% electricity, with the rest from burning things, mostly fossils. For a human-safe climate, it needs to run on 60-80% clean electricity. We need to make this change in ~two decades.

There is no one in St Paul politics and government that is more no-frills than Kathy Lantry.
If she is in favor of a new thing, it means it is so absurdly common sense that the people opposing it are borderline (or maybe absolutely) clowns.

Six weeks ago an older neighbor walked over a handwritten letter asking me to shovel for her and her husband this winter (and put it in our mail box). I called her and said it was no problem.
Tonight, the third shoveling or so, I find this note on the door. Ha ha. I love it!
The Lein's once met with me in city hall and flipped over 40 or so full page home printed images of war torn regions while comparing required organized trash collection to military rule under a dictator.
So, you know, take their statements with moon-sized grains of salt...
This is just one of the many reasons I'm opposed to the Summit Ave Trail plan. The truck was parked, & no one was loading/unloading to be seen. No enforcement is to be seen. The vehicle easily accessed the raised trail due to the curb's lower part.

Established women's soccer systems are still essentially dominated by wealthy, white, suburban folks. When a diverse team like Como Park faces this kind of racist garbage, it needs to be called out and dealt with strongly. Otherwise that status quo will be assumed to be OK.
