We went to Hayward to get some groceries and a stop at
@Walgreens
because we had left Jess birth control at home. As Jess was checking out, cashier John told her he couldn’t sell her the condoms. “Oh I got them from over there.”
“We can, but I won’t because of my faith.” 1/x
It’s a sad day in Minnesota when I hear from countless parents who are too concerned for their children’s safety to let them go trick-or-treating in their own neighborhoods. We are losing the state we know and love. That all changes next Tuesday.
1) food open past 10pm
2) transit network running every 8-10 min.
3) embrace river life- hardly any food or drink spots along the river. Totally bonkers
There is something deeply insulting when folks just paint the entire area of a city (North Minneaplis for example) as a hell scape.
People live in these areas ffs. And for a majority folks, we choose to live here. You are talking about where folks live as hell. What the fuck.
I have lived in North Minneapolis for 8 1/2 years and have never felt the need to wear a bullet proof vest. I have biked all over North and never felt unsafe. I have shown clients homes in every part of North and never once felt the unsafe. These folks are racist fear mongers.
Arizona & California have reached end of the line and have to solve water crisis immediately.
Lake Superior — largest freshwater lake in the world — runneth over. Can’t we use existing pipes to rush water to Colorado River?

If I’m reading my results right,
@MaryMoriarty
is gonna be our next Hennepin County Attorney. Up 57.7% to Holton Dimick’s 41.72% with 354 of 397 precincts in. Big win for beleaguered progressives if it holds.
@BillLindeke
I can’t think about it too much because it’ll lead to slight depression. If the stars had aligned back in 2009 we’d be living with a subway and 10 minute travel times from Uptown to downtown today.
@yfreemark
’s graphic always gets me:
Jamie Lee Curtis wonders why artists don’t have concerts during the day rather than night:
“Why are there no matinees? I'm not gonna go see Coldplay if they start their show at 9 and there's an opening act. I want to hear Coldplay at 1 PM.”
This first generation home buyer program coming from MN Housing looks really promising. It's eligible for folks whose parents or guardians have never owned a home or lost one due to foreclosure. Up to $35,000 for down payment - half forgiven after 10 years- the other half at 20.
Does the Try that in a Small Town song mention a family moving into a rural town, to a farm and attempting to have the local government service the road their property sits on while a neighbor attempts to make it hard for them as possible to live there?
What if Minneapolis just did this for the hollidazzle? It works all over Europe. Just do a outdoor Christmas market on Nicolett Mall. Close down 3 blocks make it epic.
Conservative gaslighting about crime in the twin cities is driving me insane. Since moving here I’ve heard “don’t go to the east side of St. Paul”, “don’t go down university!”, “don’t go downtown!”, “don’t take the busses!” And literally all of these things have been non-issues
.
@jpcoolican
knows more about MN politics than just about anyone, and he makes a case that the democrats' huge legislative session was the product of decades of groundwork
521,000 people lived in Minneapolis in 1950. The interstate hastened a major shift out to the suburbs, cratering the population - and it never caught back up again (425,000 today).
I would like to counter these stories of privilege leaving Minnesota with all the clients we see moving here from Iowa and Texas because of the anti Trans and LGBT laws happening there.
"The new law prohibits school resource officers from putting students in the prone position or restraining them in a way that keeps a child from signaling distress or difficulty breathing."
How is this controversial? Cmon.
Minnesota's largest school district will lose all but one of its school resource officers by the time classes begin Tuesday amid uncertainty over a controversial new ban on student restraints that Republicans want to repeal.
I was picking up dinner from Reverie last night and drove around Powderhorn Park. The park was full of people of all ages using the park. This was at 6:30pm. The narrative that the park is not safe for people and kids to go and play is simply not true.
This overdraft fee rule from Biden is really great and will help millions of people. Would have helped me save so much money and stress from ages 20-25.
Monday nights
@RickSteves
does a live stream with one of his travel shows, pauses it every 5-6 min to talk about what we just watched all while he drinks wine and peels cheese. It is a delight.
Aaand it's official: The University of Minnesota will close alumni/retired faculty members emails in 2024 "to mitigate cyber security and data privacy risks."
Thousands (including myself) will have to transfer troves of data to a new account. 🙃
