We are truly ‘frogs in boiling water’. A year ago Stage 1 or 2 load-shedding was unacceptable. A year later, with Stages 4-6 an every day event, we pray for Stages 1 and 2. No one even raises the possibility of no load-shedding.
I am in a rage. SA has world class skills to sequence new virus mutations due to our AIDS research. Our transparency is rewarded with an attack on our economy. The mutation might have originated in the EU for all we know. We merely found it, not originated it. Political lunacy.
Despite 3 vaccines I have Covid. In its full glory of every symptom. It is everything I have read about. Woman down. But as I am on immunosuppressant drugs I have no doubt that if not for the vaccines I would be in hospital on an oxygen tank. Instead of at home in my own bed.
For those who think grass is greener, the perception of safety in other countries is just that. An optical illusion. I was robbed last night of everything - laptop, cellphone, credit cards, cash. Where: Mayfair, London, UK.
High Court handed down judgment in favour of myself and Sygnia in the matter v Mzwanele Manyi. The Court ordered Mr Manyi to remove within 24 hours from his Twitter and Facebook all defamatory comments. The Court also interdicted him from making further comments about me.
I was reminded of this tweet. I had no idea at the time of what was to come. I had no idea of how wrong I was going to be. No ‘relentless effort’, rather ‘apathy’, no ‘change for all South Africans’, rather ‘continued patronage’. The only hope lies in 2024 elections.
He also robbed 59 million South Africans of their future. And by the way failing public health care services, load shedding, sky-high debt, corruption - all on him. How are your friends and business partners, the Guptas, doing?
Shouldn’t we be calling for a vote of no confidence in current government as we did under Zuma? At least it would create a sense of unity in a demoralised nation. Between NO ELECTRICITY (true meaning of ‘loadshedding’) and Russia support this government does not speak in my name.
Please deploy our own doctors first. My husband’s nephew (a young doctor) has been waiting for a placement for over 6 months. I assume he is not unique. He does not require a R9m flight, nor accommodation, nor a R1m salary. R439m could be much better used in a bankrupt economy.
We have gone out to seek assistance from Cuba and China. It’s in this context we have yesterday received 217 Drs of various training and professions. They are augmenting our resources. They have a strength in community medicine and their presence is very helpful.
I am posting more rewards:
1. R200k to 1st bodyguard currently with Ajay Gupta who calls CrimeStop on 08600 10111 to advise of his location.
2. R200k to 1st accused in the Vrede Dairy Farm case (of the ones that appeared in court) to turn state witness. To help with legal fees.
Watching IEC announcement it struck me that if the right coalition is not formed, this might be the last free, fair and democratic election South Africa will see for years to come. Next week is the ostensibly the most important week for SA in the past 30 years.
Dear SAP. Next time one of your PR people phones me to lecture me on my tone and precise expression when talking about SAP paying off the Guptas I will make the recording public. I too tape my conversations. At least McKinsey paid back the money. Are you?
I have finally been persuaded that my story of being a woman in the men’s world of financial services and the lessons I have learned might be worth sharing. All royalties I receive are being donated to The Saartjie Baartman Centre for Women and Children, survivors of abuse.
The time has come to stop being passive observers as our beautiful country is being plundered by those who put their financial self-interests ahead of those of SA. The time has come for everyone to say enough is enough. The time has come to hold people to account.
I was quoted 120 million euros for a plant that would supply 100 000 000 l per day. 11 months to construct. That is R1.8 bn. Double that for unexpected expenditure. SAA bail out was R10 bn. Please stop lying to us.
@ortundirl
I said that desalination is expensive. Large scale facilities cost up to R15 billion (which is 1/3 of CPT's annual budget).
No city can afford such facilities on its own. Especially when their provision is outside its legal mandate. Assistance would need to come from nat. govt
On Zondo, no surprises. We knew most of it. I had to get an injunction against Mzwanele Manyi when I took him on. He harassed me on Twitter, inciting others to threaten me. Guptas should finally be placed on Interpol Red Notice. Arrest warrants, asset forfeiture should follow.
I am willing to match the reward Rand for Rand. So now we have R1 million in the pool. South Africans, contribute your spy skills. We need these crooks in jail where they belong. As soon as possible.
Let’s ask Richard Quest: “Our whole economy was highjacked by KPMG, McKinsey, Bain, SAP and other multinationals. How many US CEOs are in prison?” I hate double standards.
My third defamation lawsuit against Iqbal Surve, IOL and Independent Media. This time for R10 million. His smear campaign against those exposing his dirty dealings is getting costly. All money awarded will be donated to charity.
I think SA owes Acting Chief Justice Raymond Zondo an immense debt of gratitude for his services to the country. Without fear or favour he has held everyone involved to account. We could not have asked more of him and the team.
I think free education needs a re-think. It should include artisan skills schools, nursing colleges and subsidies for school children. University education is not the solution to making everyone employable.
Given Moody’s downgrade suddenly IMF bail outs may seem attractive. Nothing good has ever come from the IMF. Austerity measures kill economic growth, increase poverty and unemployment and last for years. Look at Greece after 3 bail outs for a test case.
Message to Mr Manyi: please do not contact my lawyers again asking for a settlement. I am not settling. You are a hypocrite fully funded by WMC. And you are in breach of the court order.
Could someone in authorities get in touch with me. I have been given very reliable information as to the whereabouts of the Guptas and how they can be traced/ tracked.
@MbalulaFikile
2020 is a year of coming together and rebuilding SA. We are in for tough times, from downgrades to electricity shortages. But we will also see some wins. My NY resolution is to ignore the rants on Twitter and focus on what every South African wants, wealth, health and happiness.
Pick ‘n Pay spent R522m on diesel this year due to load-shedding. How many jobs would this create, how many schools/low cost houses could be build? How much tax revenue is lost? I thought the fight for the soul of SA was over when Zuma fell. I didn’t realize it was just beginning
So let’s face some truths. South Africa can’t even buy the basic flu vaccine this year. We are that low down the totem pole in global rankings. Even if Covid-19 vaccine is developed how many years before we get it? 3 years? Lockdown is not a sustainable plan. It’s a mass suicide.
Rumors are that another lockdown is an option. Every irresponsible person who is partying away is putting millions of people’s livelihoods at risk. Never mind risking killing someone. Hospitals are full. It’s Xmas. Could I ask that you think of sacrificing a bit for others. 🎄
To all those who looted VBS: before presenting ‘invoices’ for ‘services rendered’ as a defense, please note the need for valid VAT and tax numbers. Alternatively, your income tax returns should reflect the money as taxable income. Otherwise don’t bother.
My 2018 New Year resolutions:
1. Make the Guptas pay back the money
2. Learn more about cryptocurrencies
3. Continue disrupting the financial services industry
4. Host a function for SA’s most influential political Twitterati
5. Give more, take less, contribute when asked
He stood up to Zuma and stopped the nuclear deal, oh, and met the Guptas (yes, panicked and lied about it when cornered as many would). Come on, let’s get some perspective! How many other politicians met the Guptas? How many did them favors? How many are falling on their swords?
What I would rather hear about is DA’s economic strategy for growth. Attacking the ANC is not a strategy for the country. It’s tiresome, unhelpful noise.

explain why it is so urgent that the president explain how certain individuals, who have been shown to have allegedly received money from the CR17 campaign, are now serving in his cabinet.
According to Business Day Eskom refuses to go to court to recover R1.6bn paid to McKinsey and Guptas’ Trillian despite McKinsey offering to pay back the money. The same Eskom wants a 20% tariff increase!!! This is an outrage!
Given all that SA has to live through (unemployment, poverty, lack of housing, education, health care and now no electricity) because YOU made corruption an institutional way of doing business, you should be put on trial for TREASON. Let’s give you as much publicity as you want.
17 years later. We started with 7 people and an office decorated on a tight budget. 0 financial backing from anyone in the “establishment”. No salaries for an number of years for ourselves. Refusal to pay bribes when “pay to play” was on the table. Congrats to the new team.
Stuck in London. Flight to SA cancelled.😢 Making a plan. Last night I went to 400 pl function for financial services. Glorious venue. 400 “men and scattering of spouses”. 0 diversity. None. Do you think anyone there gives a thought to SA and our plight? Really? We are on our own
I have deleted a tweet showing the poverty and desperation of the poorest parts of our society. With it went all the vile politicized comments. Let the politicians deal with the humanitarian disaster we are heading towards. I am out of this debate.
Please stay. Without voices like yours the vast number of South Africans are destined for unemployment, poverty, hunger and desperation. At least you are in the room! Keep talking.
@tito_mboweni
Not so long ago, I was a free man, no political constraints. Then I agreed, voluntarily to join Government. Tjoooo! Free but not free!! You have to obey the majority/collective decisions! Sometimes it feels like swallowing a rock!😳
I am going to start posting names of companies which send me spam emails in breach of POPI. Clearly buying personal information. I expect their Information Officers to take action! Today: David van Schoor from Voyc!
@voyc_ai
How does one of the most successful liberation movements in history turn into supporter of mass murder, mayhem, and trampling over human and sovereign rights. I guess lack of accountability domestically has translated into lack of accountability globally
Why give him airtime? He is a Gupta puppet turned delusional ‘to be president’ helping to incite violence. “Loot responsibility”. Did untold damage to SA in terms of negative publicity. The only way to fight these people is to starve them of oxygen and a public platform.
With oil prices at these levels we should replenish our strategic oil reserves. The same reserves ‘sold’ to Glencore at bargain basement price of $29 a barrel during the Gupta reign.
One last tweet for the day. To make the budget more palatable to an average South African about to be hit by taxes please announce one high profile prosecution of a State Capture participant (individual or corporate) about an hour before the Budget speech! Just one.
@tito_mboweni
Anyone who thinks this is just ‘looters’ is confused. It is an assault by beneficiaries of State Capture deep in the system against Ramaphosa, trying to destabilize current government driving change by inciting specific violence. All law abiding SAs must stand up against anarchy.
After watching News24 interviews with CT project team working on the water crisis and attending the CEO briefing, I am more concerned than ever before. Here are some suggestions. If they are naive, please disregard.
On the topic of
@Eskom_SA
load shedding. This has a direct impact on people’s ability to work from home. If it continues during this tough period businesses will have no choice but to recall staff back to the office where there are generators. Not great for social distancing.
Two weeks into flying BA domestically I have had the most appalling service. Old and dirty planes. Broken seats. Always late. Need I say more. I will fly SAA until the day I can’t.
I feel sick reading any commentary by this pathetically crook and Gupta puppet who destroyed our economy. Come on, I challenge you. Sue me for defamation if I am wrong. Why wait for NPA? Let’s get you testifying in a court of law.
@koko_matshela
Minister Pravin Gordhan says he cannot ruled out the possibility that the national electricity system is being sabotaged. This is so crazy.
#PravinGordhan
reminds me of the days of swart gevaar or rooi gevaar.
When all else fail find a scapegoat
Perhaps because it’s Easter and family matters. But I have been hit with the malicious rumours of being divorced too many times. For the record: not divorced, happily married, just celebrated 24th wedding anniversary, 2 sons we are v proud of! Why do people wish others the worst?
I always believed that hard works trumps ever. It’s always a worry that children brought up in privilege do nothing. I am so proud. My son, Alex, got 180/180 on the US law school entry exam, LSAT. After completing Masters in AI at Columbia with full marks. Hoping for Yale.
I think today we all have to thank the incredibly brave whistleblower who made
#Guptaleaks
available despite dire threats to life. This changed the course of SA history. One day the story will be known in full. I suspect the Guptas no longer use email. Carrier pigeons perhaps?
Unfortunately Tongaat is turning out to be another Steinhoff. We criticize the ANC for making foreign investors wary of SA. Private sector and their advisors, auditors and other enablers etc. have done their fair share of the same.
Tongaat‘s former CEO Peter Staude was a Davos regular. The cost to be a WEF member starts at CHF 60,000 (R897,408) “depending on the level of engagement”. The sugar producer from the KZN coast must have picked up some great ideas from the tiny Swiss ski village. Thx shareholder.
I have a new thesis on SA. I think we are already living under a coalition government and hence suffer from complete paralysis at a time when we need decisive leadership. There is the good ANC, the bad ANC, and trade unions. None has the upper hand. All decisions are a compromise
Two weeks ago, another South African, Caitlin Rooskrantz, quietly made history by winning the Gold medal at the 2019 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, making her our first international Gold medalist in Gymnastics. She will be competing in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
120 people made the decision to stay onboard of a SA plane grounded at Warsaw airport for 24 hours, instead of disembarking without weapons. Genius. Who made the decision? Those in business class or economy class?
So Steinhoff’s crooked deals go back to 2001. I have been told PwC has a lot of incriminating emails. If Duduzane’s passport has been confiscated, why has Jooste’s not been? Next time we hear from him will be when he is in Australia and cannot be extradited.
My biggest budget shocker: ‘29,000 public servants + members of the national executive, members of Parliament, of provincial executive, and so on, earned more than R1m last year. The average govt wage has risen by 66% in the last 10 years.’ During that period SA went backwards!
Such ignorance by the writer. Duduzane was the main ‘facilitator’ of Guptas’ State Capture. A business partner in all their dealings. Lives in Dubai. How quickly we forget! ANC needs young leaders and uDuduzane could be one - The Mail & Guardian
At this stage of the lockdown the mental health of South Africans needs more attention. I am exposed to more and more depression, anxiety, pessimism about the future of SA and children having problems by not seeing friends. At least allow social and family bubbles! Groups of 10.
SA banks need to monitor money flows from Zimbabwe! Now is the time to implement strong processes around all politically exposed people aiming to steal what is left. Let’s not do to Zimbabwe what we allowed to be done to South Africa.
And here is South Africa in its true colors. Just tragic. Stealing from the poorest in society at a time of a global crisis. Has anyone been charged? This should carry a minimum sentence of 10 years in prison. Or am I again politically naive?

@City_Press
today: Government’s attempts to feed the poor during the extended lockdown are being hampered as opportunists – mainly local councillors – allegedly divert the aid to themselves and their supporters, and, in some instances, sell them on
Beyond depressing. There is not one policy on the table to help deal with unemployment, poor education, infrastructure collapse etc. Not one. There is zero attempt at even recognizing the problem.
For the sake of SA, can we put aside our differences for just a minute and focus on what’s important. Job creation, growth, investment! CR is our best hope. The alternative is Zuma madness on full display, incl via proxies like the Public Protector.
One positive thing that is happening in SA today is that we are dragging all the corruption skeletons out of the cupboard into the sunshine. Crime can only thrive in the shadows. We are enlightened.
Everyone who contributed did so to stop corruption, reduce poverty and save SA from Zuma, Guptas etc. No one expected anything in return other than a well-run country (excl Bosasa). The other side opted for cash donations in bags. More difficult to track than legitimate donors.
Dear SAA and Numsa. The strike is costing every business in SA money. That cost will translate into cost-cutting. Cost-cutting = retrenchments. Jobs are being lost. Right now. Please stop. There are other mechanisms for addressing issues.
This is when it hits home that South Africa is going backwards at a rapid pace. I am so tired of excuses, lack of coherent growth strategies, corrupt system, lack of inclusion of people who want to help.
To rephrase, ANC just sacrificed the future of SA children and the security of its citizens to TRY yet again to save something completely unsalvageable. Using our tax money. Education + police vs a bankrupt airline. I personally would like an explanation.
1. Re-arrange the national budget
2. Reform SA’s labour legislation
3. End trade union dominance
4. Start an Education Revolution
5. Make it easy to do business in SA
6. Restore the rule of law
7. Revitalise our cities
8. Uncompromising economic policy
NPA should outsource prosecutions to top law firms on a success fee basis. % of money recovered. Top skills chasing top incentives. SA recovers some of the stolen money. Some people actually go to jail. Just a thought.

Effectively we are going to Level 1 without opening the borders. I think it is important to set a date for that to happen. People plan summer holidays well ahead of time. To save the tourism sector, please announce a date (even if it is November as an example).
Response from Min Gordhan to Public Protector: “Any communication that suggests that Min Gordhan has not responded to the Public Protector’s enquiries between Feb and July 2018 is simply deceptive, false and incorrect.” Time to launch an investigation her fitness to hold office!
Too much is happening in SA not to comment. I get so many tips on corruption that I need this forum to air them. My pet peeve of today: nothing has changed at Net1! They are still flogging EasyPay Everywhere accounts to the poor! Where are the shareholders?
I am always amazed when I’m blatantly threatened. I have just been threatened by The Institute of Race Relations if I don’t respond to their letter re prescribed assets. To be clear, neither Sygnia nor I are under any obligation to respond. Our views and actions are our own.
My husband doing the Robben Island swim this morning. You forget how beautiful Cape Town is until you have largely stayed at home for 3 months and suddenly get to drive along the coastline!
Pretoria High Schools for Girls and Boys in 1980s were brutal for teenagers who did not conform. Bullying, supported by teachers, was rife. As a refugee with no English I was ridiculed to the point I didn’t speak for 5 years. Only gained confidence to speak English at UCT.
North Gauteng HC: Regulations promulgated by Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma are declared unconstitutional and invalid. Declaration of invalidity suspended until Government has reviewed, amended and republished the regulations. Full judgment:
I have a question to DA. Mmusi, did you apply your mind to appointing Natasha Mazzone as shadow Minister of Public Enterprises? She approached me for a donation to DA prior to the elections. Cancelled when I said Sygnia doesn’t donate to political parties. Enough. Put SA first!

Your legacy: SOEs, SARS, NPA destroyed, rolling load-shedding, lack of quality education and healthcare for the poor, credit rating downgrades, institutionalized corruption, municipalities in chaos, the Gupta heist....any comments?
This woman must be removed as a Public Protector asap. The nonsensical judgements are wasting taxpayers’ money and affecting real people’s lives. Enough already.
He was a hero, a warrior and model to others. He will feature in history books as a legend. He was everything that is incredible about South Africa. It is a lifelong privilege to have known him. 💔
We desperately need trade schools e.g. plumbers, electricians, builders, basic accounting/computer use for administrators for those who do not finish grade 12. We need a comprehensive overhaul of our education system, rather than reckless promises.

RECAP
12 years ago 1.3 million kids started school.
534 000 wrote matric in 2017.
More than 700 000 kids never even finished school.
And people are celebrating.
Meanwhile it's a damn tragedy.
Thank you everyone for your messages of support. I stand up for what is right and just, while protecting the safety of my family. Watch this space. Nothing happens without a reason.
