@Dr_Oubre I was recently hospitalized myself a few months ago. It was a completely eye-opening experience for me as a doc - it fundamentally changed my bedside practice and manners (which I already thought were quite good). Medicine, the "machine", can make patients feel very dehumanized.

I sat down with a patient when I was discharging them; they asked me to make sure I take care of myself because she saw all the other sick patients we were taking care of. It was one of the most thoughtful interactions I’ve had recently, and I’m very grateful I met them.

Important lesson from sim earlier today: if you find yourself lost during a resuscitation, take a mental step back and go over the basics: ABCDE - make sure you didn't miss anything, make sure you got the basics covered, and gives you a minute to refresh your mind.

Anyways, being prepared to respond to emergencies is cool. But packing stuff to do "hero shit" but nothing to respond to the likely life-threats is misguided. The basic stuff saves lives not the hero shit: BLS airway management, bleeding control, and a cell-phone.
