Best of luck! I've given all I could but am quite far back.
You would be an excellent representative for the people of Calgary Forest Lawn.
@UCalgary
has just released a statement indicating that the arrival of counter-protestors necessitated their excessive force and that no-one was injured.
There were no counter-protestors and students left in ambulances.
Today I submitted the final version of my dissertation.
Instead of the celebratory bike ride I was about to go on, I discovered the main pipe in my house backed up and had to deal with that all night.
Props to
@shoffmanAB
and
@gilmcgowan
for asking the tough questions at today's debate.
Politicians can and will make mistakes, but we need to hold them accountable if we're going to do better.
Wednesday i successfully defended my PhD dissertation.
Today i got a little bit too much sun (and a surprise welcome to a bachelorette party) while door-knocking.
Tomorrow I'll be diving into that federal budget.
Was hoping to catch the aurora tonight but am instead reminded of the fires up north and that once again people are being forced from their homes because of the effects of climate change.
Natalie Loveless, the associate dean of equity, diversity and inclusion at the University of Alberta, has resigned from that position over the violent sweep by police of a peaceful anti-genocide protest in the U of A quad.
Today i had the privilege of passing this beauty on my way back from Edmonton.
These folks are "axing their tax" by parking their cars for a month and reducing their carbon footprint.
Making greener choices, exactly as intended by the carbon tax!
This is my friend Hunter, one of UofC Grad Student Association's newest exec at an ANDP presser and he's absolutely right!
Recent (overdue) federal increases to research funding should absolutely not be hindered by political ideology.
I've driven from Calgary to Vancouver about thirty times, but never stopped at the "Last Spike". It's fitting I'd finally do so today on
#MayDay
.
Never forget the (mostly immigrant) workers who were sacrificed to build the railway that brought our country together.
NEW: Tonight, 5 Starbucks stores across the country held union elections - & ALL 5 voted YES to UNIONIZE!🤩🎉
✊Salem, OR (Lancaster & Silverton)
✊Chanhassen, MN (Dakota Ave II)
✊Stratham, NH (Portsmouth Ave)
✊Tampa, FL (Dale Mabry & Linebaugh)
✊Davenport, IA (53rd & Elmore)
Today is the National Day of Mourning.
I attended the commemoration in downtown Calgary and was hit pretty hard to learn of a 17 year old dying from a workplace accident this past year.
Work shouldn't be life and work shouldn't take life.
More unions.
To avoid choosing sides on this contentious topic, we're wearing my vancouver women's team jersey with colours slightly stolen from the oilers and a logo totally stolen from the Hamilton Ticats.
They're particularly brave because their illegal encampment will be swarmed by 60+ riot police with batons, rubber bullets, and tear gas AT ANY MOMENT.
Right?...
@AndieYEG
@campusfoodbank
Same at UofC.
Mostly grad students and international students. Grad school is a ticket to poverty for all but a privileged few.
Please look to the USA right now if you're even considering electing another conservative government in Alberta or Canada. We can't let that be our future.
It's great to see the immediate uptick in vaccinations in Alberta from the "not a passport", but it would be naive to think anyone at yesterday's protest isn't going to just forge this thing.
@5RandomName5
In the late afternoon, it was nearly entirely UofC kids hanging out in tents and basically having a picnic. I can't say if that changed by the time the police arrived, but the cops were already waiting in McMahon to deploy before I left so I doubt it mattered.
@RodKahx
There is an illegal encampment up just outside of Calgary literally right now. This isn't a "we learned our lesson" thing, this is selective policing.
I was asked this morning about the possibility of coal mining in Alberta. I want to clarify that at a federal level the NDP supports the environmental impact assessment standards that prevented Grassy Mountain from going forward
Hockey Take:
There are no winners in a Boston-Toronto game 7, except for maybe whichever team plays them next after what is hopefully 7 periods of overtime.
@natalieg6
@theJagmeetSingh
Health care should not be tied to employment FullStop. It makes upwards mobility (which can often only be achieved by changing employer) less accessible for those who can't afford to lose their benefits for three months.
One day after the election and the first headline I hear on the radio is that O&G industry has uncertainty about carbon capture investment based on the results.
Uncertainty in O&G is good for our economy now, right guys?
@TheBlueGem3
Question: who owns "public" universities in this province? When the police tell protesters a university campus is private property, to whom are they referring?
Passing some time playing phone games and got an ad about the CPP being one of the world's top performing portfolios.
I wonder if that's only making the rotations in alberta?
I saw a bunch of trashed Liberal signs the other day. This is incredibly disappointing.
No matter your political views, at least show a minimal respect for democracy.
@dbmartell74
@UCalgary
In the last five years between playing with an indigenous hockey team and supporting international student workers at UofC i have had my eyes completely opened.
This country needs to do better.
@nickelodeon58
A better comparison would be the axe-the-tax protesters set up illegally just outside the city right now. They annoy me, but I'm not screaming for them to come down or hoping they get brutalized by police.
When Canada used to build homes in line with population growth, we federally supported social and co-operating housing to keep prices down.
But hey, we should try aggressively incentivizing the same strategies we've used for the last forty years and see if that works!
@shiels_aaron
@NDP
Dental care should have always been a part of universal health care. Full coverage is the end goal, but it will take more good folks in Ottawa!
@Brian_T_Gilbert
All STEM faculties across the country started up EDI committees like two years ago. We already solved all equity problems so have no idea what's going on!
