To the young scientists..work that led to this honor was supported by my first R01. It wasn't renewed. Painful critique was, "modest productivity." But ALL criticism can be useful (accurate or not). Revised proposal/submitted to new study section. Got funded 8/19! Keep Fighting!

Those contending that a 14k raise for postdocs would collapse the enterprise make the case that postdocs currently serve as the HIGHLY SKILLED low-cost labor force that keeps the research ecosystem thriving. I agree with the latter position. Postdocs deserve more.

When I was an undergrad, I was sexually harassed. Complaints about inappropriate behavior made the postdoc I worked for would send me home without pay. Any day that I complained was a day I couldn’t earn wages. 2/n
