Here’s our 6th grade boys from today. All 46 of ‘em. A lot of these guys have fallen in love with the weight room. Some come in after school and are looking up training programs and lifts. Pro tip-control eccentrics for a long, long time. We’re going back to it.

We don’t just lift 🤣 Lateral focus high day. Short, fast, focused reps with lots of rest. This is the first time we’ve ever dragged the sleds or started and stopped in a lateral run, just so ya know.

Our cross country girls are currently #1 in the state of Texas in 3a. They’re ridiculously consistent in the weight room. Four times a week all summer, twice a week in season. They even use barbells and specialty bars. 😱 ⁦ @HERO_Athletics1

Easing up on our dudes a little this week. Less volume and pounding, still touch some fast stuff though. Most of our guys are in at least one spring sport (literally over 90%). Baseball and track both just started, powerlifting had our first meet, golf and swim are rollin’.

We drop clean early in our progression to get comfortable shrugging ourselves under the bar and catching quickly and as low as possible. We pause to get comfortable in the bottom and in the racked position. We combine it all for efficiency. Proud of our dudes!

Here’s our 8th grade girls doing our quick (2.5-3 min.) weight room warm up. It’s a series of 5 movements done in a circuit of 5 reps, then 4, then 3, then 2, then 1 rep (15 of each movement total). This is obviously the round of 2. Covers a lot of movements in a short time.

The first 3 dudes you see in this video and more are state qualifiers in track. Comprehensive training during our athletic period, but heavy on acceleration, deceleration, and curved runs. All fast with long rests. Exceptional track work after school. Fast, healthy dudes.

We like to drop clean to work technique as we warm up. Start tall, but with shoulders down. Shrug yourself under the bar to get to the bottom position as quickly and efficiently as possible. We pause in the bottom to loosen up and feel/adjust the position.

ANKLE MOBILITY & STIFFNESS Here’s an easy way to stretch and strengthen ankles in large groups. Do a couple sets of overcoming ISO’s in full dorsiflexion. Do a couple sets of overcoming ISO’s with a locked ankle and heel up. Similar to PAILS and ankle rockers.

We do FRC on Tuesdays. Added a new little move today. We compensated a lot, had to bail out here and there, but the overall effort was great. All the cramps reminded me that some people still think all cramps are due to electrolyte imbalances or dehydration. 😁
