As emails from teachers began to start rolling in, I was set up, ready to go. I tried to think of this as a good thing. I could work by myself, and get stuff done. Two days in, and I was already sick of it. I couldn’t concentrate, and I was already not meeting deadlines.

Whether it’s by predicted grades, or postponing until a later date. They’ve taken that action. They’ve actually verbally said what they are going to do. Schools are shut for the rest of the school year there. We just need #ClarificationNow .

We’re trying to get ours. We’re trying to get into college, get our degree, and get into whatever sector and industry that we want to get into. We all have to get through it, and yes a pandemic is going on. But did it go on during your Leaving Cert? Historically, no. It didn’t.

The caller thought we were making this all out to be about us. In practice, yes, because that was the topic on Liveline at the time. But in reality, this is all we knew. The Leaving Cert, and the education system as a whole, has engulfed our lives. We know nothing else but that.

On the day @LeoVaradkar announced the measures in Washington, I felt very mixed feelings. On one hand, I was glad because it’s going to help stop the spread of #Covid19 . On the other hand, I was extremely worried about Orals, Geography project work, and the course generally.

Could this badly impact me? I’ve always been a little bit of a pessimist. But by Christ I have never been this bad. I am genuinely concerned for my future, for my life. We need clarity ASAP. We can’t have “hoping to go ahead” as an answer. We need when, where and how.

Since primary school, and into Junior Cert and then now. Education, learning, and exams. That’s all we know. The leaving cert is the toughest year we have faced. Others have gone through it. Some haven’t done great, and some have. But berating us doing help us do well.

It’s tougher for us this year because of the massive interruptions that have faced us now. We are trying to teach ourselves. We have no teacher there to ask. We can only rely on emails to wait for a response. If we’re lucky, we can watch an Instagram Live. I have been that lucky.
