So I begin to compile a list of statements and quotes that I think are guidelines for life i agree with. I take no credit for original thought.
Price’s Principles
1. Be a better person than you were yesterday.
Got some emotions going today. It’s going to take me a little bit to unpack this tour and its impact on me.
So proud of our Sailors out at sea and getting it done each and every day.
rewatching Rogue One and realizing the x-wings attack w a rolling dive—which looks awesome but originates from WWII fighters w carburetors having to do it bc diving w/o a roll would be negative-Gs and cut off fuel from the engine
So funny story. This was me on my third flight of deployment.
First thought in my head was “whelp I know what tomorrow’s air plan cartoon will be about.”
Completed a good deed by reducing the number of O-4’s (they’re the worst) in the Navy by one.
Privilege to administer the oath for promotion to Commander to an outstanding officer!

Beautiful day for last flight. Even better, it was with a JO that was in the E-2 squadron on my last deployment with VFA-154. I wrote one of his letters of rec for a jet transition, and now he is a VFA Super JO.
The future of Naval Aviation is in good hands.
Just want to reassure the American public that there is no cookie shortage aboard
@TheCVN69
Also, white chocolate chip macadamia nut is a top tier cookie.
I am a month removed from Big XO. The tour was everything I thought it would be and more. The highs were higher and lows were lower.
I chose this path to get out of my comfort zone. Always an easy thing to say, but another thing to live. /1
On a scale of one to dope, my going away gift from the wardroom is pretty dope.
And this is the MC2 who helped them with the design was jazzed to see the final product.
I told him it better be on his next eval: “designed the best gift the Big XO has ever seen.”
For a replenishment-at-sea breakaway song on the Mighty IKE, it must be “warfighting music.” That is the criteria. For those not familiar, we blare music when we detach from the supply ship, signifying completion… It has to be properly motivating… I’m open to suggestions.
Shout out to our allies and their professional execution of the mission.
Also a great reminder of the capability and flexibility provided by a runway that moves with the power of the atom.

One of

motivated yellow shirts under instruction. A couple minutes later he directed me into position on the catapult shuttle like a pro!
#BigXOlife
The funnier part is the rest of his chain of command coming to the bridge wondering what was going on.
HT2 is an outstanding Sailor, nothing to worry about!
Unsuspecting Petty Officer called to the bridge & assumes he’s in trouble. Placed in Captain’s chair, given cookie, picture taken… Per spouse request.

GOOD MORNING MIGHTY IKE THIS IS BIG XO COMING AT’CHA. IT IS CLEANING STATION TIME SO GET AFTER THAT HIGH DUST AND POLISH THAT BRASS. ALSO A REMINDER TO CLOSE ALL HATCHES TO MAINTAIN AC BOUNDARIES AND DONT FLUSH TSHIRTS DOWN THE TOILETS. BRAVO SIX GOING DARK.
#BigXOLife
Demonstration of absolute trust and confidence from both sides.
Our amazing young Sailors are doing this 24/7, rain or shine, thousands of miles from home.
I have no doubts about “this generation’s” ability to serve.
Just wrapped up my 4 weeks underway to learn the workings of the Nimitz-class reactor plant.
It was a productive, yet humbling reminder of the steep learning curve I have ahead of me as the Big XO.
Chat with new Sailor who is an Electronic Tech (ET) that just got sent TAD to the mess decks. I told him it isn’t what he joined to do but it’s important.
His response: “Sir I didn’t join the ET’s I joined the Navy.”
Gave that dude a hug. The future is bright.

Since executive officers are normally the “black hat,” I planned to adopt that persona upon arriving at VFA-154. That plan lasted a day. It was exhausting trying to be someone I am not. Better to focus 100% of my effort to the task at hand as myself.
Damn skippy they do.
Anyone that thinks today’s generation is weak needs to spend a day on the flight deck. Our Sailors are putting in hard work each and every day.
Still amazed on my eighth deployment.
But the amount of skill and institutional muscle memory it takes to be able to sustain that cycle for 12+ hours. Deck operations is truly an art form and literally no other Navy in the world can do it like us.
Gotta hand it to our guys and gals on the deck. They make the magic
@ChowdahHill
has been trying to change the coffee shop into a Dunkin that only serves day old black coffee and plain creamer.
Sometimes the XO has to keep the CO in check…
Over the last quarter our Sailors have earned over $3 million in reenlistment bonuses.
The money is one part of the equation. More importantly is showing them that we care about them and what they do for the Navy is important.
Mission and purpose, right
@ChowdahHill
Getting some Vitamin D while manning the phone and distance line.
I told them to stop pulling so hard, we want to keep some distance between us and the other ship.

Presenting Ike’s “Life Boss.” She teaches resiliency classes to prevent destructive behaviors and increase quality of life. She was a huge addition to the ship and is crushing it on deployment! Her msg back home: “Solid thanks to my mom and family for holding it down back home.”
Target acquisition. Before the days of GPS and targeting pods, bombing was a complete visual exercise.
By keeping the target offset from my nose (I.e. 10 or 2 oclockish,) I can stay tally target longer and closer to the target. /2
My youngest wanted to show my wife what she wrote this morning before school. Some emotions when I saw the picture.
Always conflicted when leaving. Excited to go do the job, but I know I will miss them everyday.
Best I can do is keep showing my love at every opportunity.
CAPT Cardone is a career Naval Aviator, selected for the nuke pipeline, XO of CVN 73, CO of an ESB, and now CO of CVN 76.
His undergraduate degree: Music.
STEM isn’t the only way.
Capt. Fred Goldhammer passed command of the U.S. Navy’s only forward-deployed aircraft carrier, USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76), to Capt. Daryle Cardone during a change of command ceremony in the ship’s hangar bay while underway in the Sea of Japan, Oct. 7.
When HM2 requests to reenlist on top of a Growler on New Years Eve, then by golly, slap on that cranial and get up there!

Seeing pictures of my Sailors enjoying themselves in port really warms my heart. They deserve it and port calls help retention.
Knowing one of my Sailors is wearing this shirt on liberty has me worried…
Friggin amazing.
This is my cover from when I was a midshipman at the
@NavalAcademy
. Last time I saw it was when I threw it up in the air for graduation.
Tradition is to leave some money and a note for the kids that bum rush the field afterwards to collect them. Really cool.
“So you want me to lay around on the ground and pretend like I am hurt? Sign me up!”
Great training for a mass casualty drill today aboard
@TheCVN69

I also have set sight pictures for the dive angle I am going to use, usually 45 or 30 degree. I put the target on the same part of my canopy bow, I will roll out pretty close to my desired parameters. From there is it just monitoring airspeed, altitude, dive angle for release. /3
Would your Middle and High School teachers be proud, terrified or unsurprised with the amount of responsibility you have now?
Considering how I squeaked by, I think terrified.
Completed a Big XO goal yesterday by hosting a discussion with air wing aircrew about the Nuke pipeline. I was surprised to have a full ready room, but they got an hour of “Farva-stream-of-consciousness” about my journey thus far and why I chose this path.
1. It is known that keying the 1MC disconnects the brain. Think then key the mic.
2. Have a stump speech ready to go for Indoc, talking to the CPO mess, etc.
3. Be careful with too much rehearsal, it can induce vapor lock or a wooden delivery.
4. Be yourself, but practice that!
How it started and how’s it going. Wrapped up my final board today at Naval Reactors.
The training is complete, but the education is just beginning.
Next stop, Newport, to learn to drive ships!
The same logic for the F/A-18 for the targeting pod on the left cheek station applies as well. This and the carrier landing pattern has created generations of ambiturners to the left. Roll-in left to keep the Flir on target.
Did some training with U-2’s on one of my last flights with VFA-154. We landed at Beale AFB afterwards for an in depth brief on capabilities and facilities, to include the riding in the chase cars…which was wild.
Especially cool for me because I was born on Beale AFB.
The “Vandy 1” Super Hornet of VX-9 and the U-2S of the AFLCMC got to recreate the famous F-4 with SR-71 formation over the Mojave Desert at the end of a test mission recently.

Update: The five 3rd MAW Marines have been confirmed deceased.
“To the families of our fallen Marines, we send our deepest condolences and commit to ensuring your support and care during this incredibly difficult time.” -Maj. Gen. Borgschulte, 3rd MAW Commanding General
I'm happy to announce the Navy's newest rating, Robotics Warfare Specialist (RW). I am incredibly proud of the work that the
@MyNAVYHR
team has done to prioritize a robotics career path for all Sailors.
i'm gonna be real with you. I do not understand ice dispensers in hotels. I have never needed ice in a hotel. Why is it so important for there to be ice in a hotel. Why are ice dispensers mentioned in hotel reviews. What are people doing with ice in a hotel. Am I losing my mind
As air-to-ground radars came into the game, the offset helped with building a better radar picture for target acquisition, mumble mumble, Doppler, mumble. /4
Finally the roll-in is just more comfortable. Body can sustain 9 positive G’s, negative 2 G’s gets uncomfortable really quick ( not to mention all the fun things you discover in the cockpit.)

Nothing wrong with enjoying yourself while taking care of each other and your fellow Sailors/Soldiers.
I have been known to cut some rug in the galley with our CS’s.
One of the things my JOs can’t wrap their head around is we used to get on base with a sticker on your windshield.
No ID, didn’t roll the window down, just rolled on through.
I was standing on the flight deck next to the two ABE’s on the right. Another Sailor had stepped into the landing area with an aircraft on short final. They immediately waved off the aircraft and pulled the Sailor back.
Great Americans making it happen every day!
Behold. Safety Professionals of the Month. Each chosen for preventing damage to aircraft and/or humans in the month of December. They are also wearing their ‘fancy’ (non-greased covered) jerseys.
@TheCVN69
2. Maneuverability. Rolling in from an offset allows me to wait till the last minute before fully committing myself to the attack. My eyes are out, looking at the target, and more importantly, threats trying to get me. Once in the dive I am predictable. /6
The roll-in is a relatively benign maneuver (3-4g’s), but that still provides complications for enemy systems tracking ability. But I ultimately I spend less time in the attack profile. That’s a good thing. /7
This is the secret sauce right here.
My goal has always been to show the human element of military service.
We are normal people who have our own highs and lows, struggles and triumphs.
@Asst_to_the_RM
P4- Personal (you), Professional (what you / your team does), never Political 🛑 and Positive (enough negativity in the world; why add to it) 🤔 Just my 2
This afternoon I had the OOD change course so the sunset was at the stern of the ship during our steel beach picnic.
I am currently drunk with power.
