Nina didn't write Mississippi G-damn fir nothing. And I say this as a daughter of a Mississippian. Special mention goes to Florida and Louisiana.

Led Zeppelin was who Willie Dixon had to sue for blatantly stealing his songs. After tears of battling, Willie won but it's a fight that continues today.
@naima
Yaaas ๐๐พ I am totally with you. I really believe Jarrett will rise to the occasion and the way his boys teared up at the wedding told me that he has a crew that cares about him and his happiness. That was not faked. They see his happiness and it's realโค
A tale of excellent customer service:
When
@bronze_bombSHEL
raved about Nigerian luxury leather designers
@winstonleather
. I jumped to support them and ordered a tiny leather crossbody. A week passed and the creative director contacted me to let me know there was a problem.
@Chicago_History
Nope. From Chicago means you grew up in a neighborhood within the city limits. It is not the same as living in nearby suburbs. You are from whatever suburb you grew up in, not Chicago.
And so the journey begins! Black chefs from all over the U.S. head to
#Cameroon
to learn traditional African cooking techniques.

You are not permitted to call yourself a Chicagoan if you've never been threatened with hell or glared at by the State Street pastor. It's just not acceptable.
@deadlinedd
@KosherSoul
The million questions is classic. They are trying to figure out how you got there, where you clearly don't belong. I don't even react anymore. I just look at them blankly.
@6figga_dilla
I'm a Rogers Park resident and there is so much history here, Dilla. What really interests me, especially on
#IndigenousPeoplesDay
, is Indian Boundary Park and the actual boundary line on Clark street where
#indigenous
people were pushed outside of the city.

My definitive female R&B group song list:

G.H.E.T.T.O.U.T: Changing Faces
@bronze_bombSHEL
Exactly. House started in Chicago and by the 90s, all the house djs were living or touring in Europe. They brought the culture with them.
Just watched the eloquent August 28 film about the significance of the date in Black history by
@ava
at
@smithsonian
African American Museum. Walked to the next floor and saw Ava Duvernay herself, roaming the museum.

The same thing I'm doing now-- traveling and writing and documenting cultures. The only thing I would increase would be donating to charities and volunteering more.
@KimberlyNFoster
He actually really struggled a lot on many levels. Some were misled by the glamour he portrayed but he sacrificed his personal life and emotional well being for an industry that did not love him.

Well that's an exciting and fun way to cap off Black History Month๐ Do we get a cookout celebration for passing the test or nah?

It's also a name once popular with old Black gentleman. Check church registries at Black Southern churches from the 40s, 50s, 60s, you will find that name.

Truth! I used 2 have a photo of the Door of No Return taped above my monitor 4 inspiration. I thought being so familiar with it would lessen the sadness. I cried thru the entire tour. Wasn't until I re-enter thru The Door of Return 4 descendants who return, that I could breathe.
The Bronze Bombshell lived a superstar life in spite of the Jim Crow racism that she endured in the U.S. Her movies and dance career are just a portion of the story.
There was a glitch in the design. So instead of the small pouch, he sent this mid-sized stunner. He didn't wait for me to question the arrival of my order, he informed me of the problem and found a solution. Never question

Andre and Eunice Johson! With Fashion Fair shows, she really connected with fashion on many levels. I used to write the fashion column for the Chicago Sun-Times and she would call me when she wanted some publicity, lol.

So excited to receive a fellowship to the 2021 National Critics Institute
@ONeill_Center
! I'll be diving into an intensive week-long program of reading, writing, and discussing arts criticism. Can't wait to meet my distinguished cohort๐ฅณ

She also advocated to reintroduce slavery to her home country of Martinique. Her monument still stands in Fort de France with its head cut off and red paint dripping at the neck.
