After Columbine over 10,000 school police officers were hired just in case a school shooting happened. Two decades later, they haven't stopped a *single* school shooting. Instead they've arrested over 1 million kids, mostly students of color, for routine behavior violations.
No mail. No healthcare. No jobs. No free or fair elections. Banned from the rest of the world. Our taxes blown on giveaways to corrupt corporations and institutions. Police violence against anyone who challenges this arrangement. We’re living in a failed state, no doubt about it.
America is a place where a black man has a greater chance of being arrested for going to Starbucks than a white man who commits treason in front of the entire world.
If black people had voted 68% for a pedophile last night, the media would be spending all day questioning the moral character of black families and communities.
$10,400,000,000 NYPD budget and they couldn’t get their radios to work in a crisis, the surveillance cameras “malfunctioned” and no officers prevented anything or apprehended anyone. But politicians plan to just throw more money at it, no questions asked.
Kamala Harris just convinced Senate Republicans to put Trump judicial appointments on hold pending the impeachment trial and that’s one of the most consequential things Democrats have won from Republicans in a while.
Three of those four Minneapolis police officers who got fired today were fired because organizers successfully pressured the city in 2016 to adopt a policy requiring officers to intervene whenever they witness another officer using excessive force.

If only there were a theory to explain why a group of white people has the power to unilaterally dictate what students learn about race and racism in America’s Blackest state.
Black members of Mississippi's senate walk out of the chamber before the final vote on a bill to ban teaching critical race theory in schools and universities. The vote passed.
More terrorists have cited Donald Trump as an inspiration for attacks on the US homeland over the past three years than any other person or organization on Earth.
For those who are interested in research-based solutions to stop police violence, here’s what you need to know - based on the facts and data. A thread. (1/x)
Reminder: Harvard admits more white students with legacy preferences than the total number of black students admitted each year. And that’s for being *related* to privilege, not even counting the kids whose parents just purchased their admission.
A Pennsylvania state trooper has fatally shot four people in separate incidents since 2007, an extraordinary tally for an officer responsible for patrolling largely rural areas with low rates of violent crime. Trooper Jay Splain remains on duty.
Police officers should not have the ability to turn off their own body cameras. Body camera videos should be automatically sent to and controlled by an independent oversight structure, not the police.
The conversation about police violence is becoming like the conversation about school shootings. We know what the problems are. And we know what works to substantially reduce the violence. The problem is not a lack of knowledge or solutions - it’s a lack of political will.
My friend who is severely immunocompromised just had to quit his job, with no savings or unemployment benefits available, because his employer would not allow him to work from home in a job that could 100% be done from home.
Cancelling student loan debt would benefit 25,000,000 American Millennials by an average of $30,000 each. It’s wild that candidates have not publicly supported this policy to date.
It’s wild to see people frame abolishing ICE as a radical idea when ICE didn’t even exist before 2003. This is why it’s so dangerous to create more policing agencies/give more people policing powers. Otherwise, in 15 years people will think it’s radical to disarm the teachers.
Police killed more people in America in 2022 than any other year on record. At least 1,176 people were killed by police nationwide - 3.2 killings per day.
If a Muslim teenager shot 17 people after being trained and armed by an ISIS affiliate based in Florida, the entire group would’ve already been raided and detained or shot by the authorities.
Legislators responded to the 2018 Parkland school shooting by hiring police officers in every elementary, middle and high school in Florida. It didn’t make students safer. Instead, it led to this:
Alabama Governor Apologizes for Wearing Blackface in College.
@GovernorKayIvey
is the latest politician to face scrutiny over racially insensitive photos and actions from their university days.
He was a religious fundamentalist, indoctrinated as a child, who carried out a bombing campaign ending in suicide bombing himself. And they still won’t call him a terrorist.
Things that will happen if they arm teachers:
-there will be teachers who shoot up schools
-teachers will be mistaken for suspects and get shot by police
-students will be threatened with guns for classroom disruptions
-black students and teachers will be impacted most severely
A white woman called police on a black real estate investor. Police showed up and actually protected him, saying she’ll be arrested if she keeps harassing him. A reminder that police could choose to protect people from racism instead of enforcing it.
In 1921 a mob of white vigilantes and police officers looted the wealthiest black community in the US and burned it to the ground. 100-300 people killed, 10,000 made homeless. Then National Guard imprisoned every black person in the area. Those responsible were never prosecuted.
I am sad to report that Dr. Olivia J. Hooker, the last known survivor of the Tulsa Race Riots, who I interview for an August column entitled, “Eyewitness to the Desolation of ‘Black Wall Street,’” passes away last night. She was 103.
This was Sacramento yesterday. These groups of extremists, who are often armed white men, are distracting police, threatening lawmakers and public health officials, and fomenting racism - all during a public health crisis.
Because they’re a more advanced nation? Japan, South Korea, Singapore and Hong Kong are at least 50 years ahead of the US and this is quite apparent as soon as you get there.
In the past week alone, the LAPD has killed four people - none of whom were armed with a gun or would’ve been even remotely likely to have been shot by police if they had been in virtually any other wealthy nation. And that’s just the City of Los Angeles.
A system that gives men who’ve committed sexual assault the power to decide what Constitutional rights women have is an unjust and illegitimate form of governance.
The toxic stress these children are enduring because of this policy has lifelong consequences. It literally alters the architecture of the brain and can reduce life expectancy by *20 years.*
Experts say psychological impact of family separation on par with abuse:
"No amount of colorful rooms with lots of great toys, regular meals, and health and education services takes away the psychological impact of losing your parents."
Police killed at least 1,054 people through November 27, 2022. Police are killing people at higher rates in 2022 than *any year on record* in the United States.

The asymmetry couldn’t be clearer. There is never an expectation that Republicans should reach out and compromise with Democrats - despite them consistently losing the majority of voters. Compromise is always framed in the direction of coddling racist policies and people.
Every inmate at Angola is sentenced to hard labor. These men, like hundreds of others, worked in the fields. While picking carrots on the former slave plantation, we discussed the cycle of incarceration and prison labor.

For all the (justified) critique of Kamala Harris record, Klobuchar was also a prosecutor who hasn’t faced a fraction of that scrutiny, Biden still leading despite writing the Crime Bill and Pete is up in the polls after his police force killed a black man during the campaign.
Pete Buttigieg is a 37-year-old mayor of the fourth largest city in Indiana with no federal or state government experience. He was elected with 8,515 votes.
Kamala Harris is a 55-year-old US senator from California. She was elected with 7.5 million votes.
“A classmate, Max Stier, saw Mr. Kavanaugh with his pants down at a different drunken dorm party, where friends pushed his penis into the hand of a female student. Mr. Stier notified senators and the F.B.I. but the F.B.I. did not investigate”
The states trying to ban abortion are the states that have the highest proportions of black women living there. That’s not a coincidence, it’s exactly who these white legislators want to take reproductive rights away from.
Harvard University admits more white legacy students than the total Black student population but look which “race-based affirmative action policies” are being challenged.
BREAKING: The Supreme Court agrees to hear a pair of cases that challenge the race-based affirmative action policies for admission at Harvard University and the University of North Carolina. The cases likely will be argued next term.
STUDENTS: the US Dept of Education just released data on racial disparities in every school and school district in America (from preK-12). Here’s how you use the data to show if/how your school discriminates against black students and other marginalized groups. A thread.
This was the FIRST election in a century where many of Alabama’s 144,000 disenfranchised black residents were able to vote. Here’s how you can end the disenfranchisement of *500,000* black residents in Florida before 2020:

*Activists and Legislators:* Here’s a thread of MEANINGFUL legislation that has been proposed and, in some cases, passed in cities and states to address police violence. Consider passing legislation like this in your community, too. (1/x)
-NZ shooter called Trump “symbol of white identity and common purpose”
-Coastguard shooter: “Civil War if Trump impeached.”
-MAGAbomber van had Trump decals
-Waffle House shooter wanted to meet Trump
-Quebec shooter read Trump twitter feed 417x
-Parkland shooter sent Trump letter
Many states make it illegal to make false 911 calls (including 911 calls intended harass or annoy). People get fined or even jailed for this. Yet, we don’t see any of the racists in the videos we’ve seen be arrested or fined for calling 911 on black people.
