During today’s raid at #FairyCreek Mounties once again tried to enforce a media exclusion zone, and threatened @Songstress28 with arrest, before an an Indigenous DLT officer stepped in. RCMP have no policy on media access, yet continue to disregard the courts & oversight advice.

For those who don’t read French, a summary of the police account released by the BEI. Keep in mind police accounts are often found to be inaccurate. 1. RCMP officers notified of disturbed individual with knife. 2. Tracked him to building, used taser several times without success.

Want to build a winning coalition on the left in Canada? Don’t push centrist pablum, run against the Liberals on stuff that will change the country. Wealth taxes, for instance, have huge cross partisan appeal. Campaign on bleeding the billionaires, and helping the people.

Not only is Toronto next for us, but some of our sources tell us a CBC crew is asking questions about some of the same networks we’re investigating. If you’re involved in running Airbnb ghost hotel networks in Toronto, your fifteen minutes are coming.

Toronto, you’re next. We already have the data. The team is working it now. If you run an illegal Airbnb ghost hotel network, or are involved in running one, we can offer you anonymity in exchange for new information. It’s not too late to get ahead of this thing. Reach out.

Keean Bexte’s practice of journalism, in case you’re unfamiliar, is best described as flying to where something is happening and trying to get someone better known to punch him in the face on a live webcast. Today at #Unistoten no one punched him, so he moved on.

Very proud of the award-winning reporting that @514jon , Erin Seatter and I did on Fireforce Ventures. It exposed Bexte’s extremism, and is a large part of the reason two federal leaders have now refused to answer his questions. ICYMI: #cdnpoli

Apartheid and occupation are words used by international human rights organizations like Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch. So Sarah Jama was expelled from caucus for echoing human rights orgs? Do I have that right?

Here's our story, for subscribers. I'm told the NDP supported Jama in making a speech today — but then she read a different one. Words like "apartheid" and "occupation" weren't part of the original script. It was the final surprise that got her booted.

Today we have an urgent situation: journalists have been unlawfully arrested and are currently in jail. The RCMP are disregarding the clear directions of the court. It’s a scandal. And this is the response, or lack thereof, from the highest levels of the BC government.

Lula was set up, and has been exonerated. Morales won the election, and then there was a military coup. We know these things now, but many argued the opposite at the time. We need to remember how bad our media is at reporting on Latin America the next time this happens.

Then, the company used these agreements to argue that they had consent. But they had the consent of the wrong parties. The governments tacitly encouraged this sleight of hand, until things came to a head in 2020. In the aftermath of the raid then, both governments signed an MOU.

This is the same sentiment Sarah Jama was expelled for expressing, except she used the words “apartheid” and “occupation.” Words used by international and Israeli human rights organizations.

Have you ever, um, eaten there? They lowered the quality of the food substantially in the past decade, replacing in-store bakers with mass produced and preserved food that tastes terrible. This is like asking why millennials don't enjoy dining out of dumpsters.

If you’re concerned about the impact of Airbnb on the housing crisis, this is a must-read. We uncovered two networks of illegal Airbnbs and tracked the specifics of a new scam netting them way more money, but leaving tenants homeless. Investigative journalism at work.

This is true. Years of steady improvements have delivered a remarkable network, which is now being expanded even faster with express bike lanes on major arteries. Plus Bixi! Clear win other cities can and should copy.

Are you a journalist who was reporting on the VPD sweep on Hastings between Columbia and Main yesterday? Was your access to the area restricted by the police? Please DM. I’m working on a story about the use of an exclusion zone, which courts have found unlawful. #bcpoli #vanpoli

CGL can argue the band councils are more representative of the people, but they can’t argue that the band councils have legal authority to consent. They don’t, according to every relevant authority.

While Joe Biden is declaring himself a "union president" and radically improving labour rights in the U.S., Canada's Trudeau government is preparing back-to-work legislation to prevent a strike at the Port of Montreal. Where workers haven't had a contract since 2018. Sigh.

A final thought on legitimacy. Hereditary chiefs are not kings. They are given their titles by the community in their feast system, and they can be stripped of them. Supporters argue it is a more democratic and representative system than band council elections with low turnout.

Singh was right. If the Bloc wants to cape for the RCMP (who are barely even present in Quebec) to curry favour with Legault (who says systemic racism doesn't exist), they should be prepared to face the consequences. What the hell was Therrien thinking?
