My piece in today’s
@guardianopinion
on why Haringey Labour administration is standing up to the Home Office. We refuse to collaborate with deportation of rough sleepers. My message to rough sleepers -our outreach staff are here to help you | Emine Ibrahim
.
@sajidjavid
please repeat outside Parliament your allegations that Jon Lansman a Jewish man, Cecile Wright a Black Woman and me a Cypriot Turkish woman from a Muslim background are running a Neo Fascist organisation - and the letter from lawyer will be in the post
Enough. Your insulting, offensive bullying and nasty video rant riled me so much I got the courage up to be named and speak at a meeting that 3 years ago I sat shaking while 100s of people tried to kick windows in - after being spat on! Stop insulting women who disagree with you.
I would laugh about the fact the “completely fixated with trans people” faction are currently ranting and raving about these cutesy little alien, if it wasn’t for the fact public debate has been taken hostage by their unhinged fanaticism
#HostileEnvironment
has impacted on my 74 yr old mum today. This year she didn’t receive Winter Fuel Payment. I called even though still time as always gets by now. Told “immigration control” enquiry is reason. Mum’s a Cyprus National with indefinite leave to remain UK since 1974
So does Labour Party think it’s ok to refer to Muslim woman(me) by use of term “Jezbollah” on Twitter and let the culprit back in to party? Taking Islamophobia seriously? Or institutional trolling? I hope you will look in to how and why this happened
@Keir_Starmer
@AngelaRayner
£5 for a tub of Lurpak butter in Iceland and it’s the same everywhere. It was £3.65 a few months ago.I had already bought a supermarket own brand last week but this caught my eye today. FIVE POUNDS FOR BUTTER!
#CostOfLiving
Just arrived at Heathrow with mum after taking her on a 10 day trip to Cyprus to visit family. She has been permanently resident in the UK since 1973 and granted Indefinite Leave in 1974. I am upset that she was asked by border officer what the purpose of her visit to UK was 1/4
This was the first time mum left UK since Brexit. Mum is a Turkish Cypriot and an elderly Greek Cypriot lady in front of us was asked the exact same question. Congratulations to the Tories for making UK border a hostile for people who have lived in the UK most of their lives 4/4
.
@toadmeister
Toby Young just compared Momentum to Britain First, yes an organisation chaired by a Jewish man with two Vice chairs, a Muslim woman and Black woman really should be compared to a neo-fascist group. Disgusting
Well I look forward to receiving apology for fact that I made a complaint about being called Jezbollah in 2018 and staff failed to act. My case cited in LMN report without my knowledge. Hearing 2nd hand how my case was treated is very distressing
#islamophobiaawarenessmonth
“Love and miss the real Labour Party” give me a break I recall receiving literature from you in 2015 urging me to vote for Lib Dem Lynn Featherstone, then said you voted for Goldsmith and stood for WEP in Hornsey Wood Green in 2017. So basically love and miss anyone BUT Labour
This is the man who with people like Gerry Gable stood between my family and the National Front when they came to march through the Cypriot community in 1977. So YES a militant fighter against racism and anti semitism. I was a 1yr old then now I am old enough to defend his record
He was just doing his job. Had I not suspected this would happen and taken all my mums passports since 1973 with us there was no way of proving her status. I suspected that like Windrush scandal victims there was likely no longer a record of my mums status. I was right.. 2/4
So I ventured in to standing up and challenging the way women are spoken to and about on Twitter. Piles of insults (mostly from men) piles of solidarity (mostly from women). Gaslit, harangued, sent offensive rubbish, the woman I was standing up for called hysterical, deranged.
The border officer confirmed that I did right thing. But I did nothing - my mother saved all her passports, most people don’t, they could have been destroyed over last 50 years. What then? By the way my mum is a citizen of Republic of Cyprus and Brexit has partly caused this 3/4
Last year I spoke up about moderating language and conduct in
@UKLabour
on single sex spaces and GRA - was met with a torrent. Watching conduct of some MPs yesterday towards Rosie Duffield goes no way towards detoxifying debate. What motivates them if not to find common ground?
Being shouted down in the Chamber by
@UKLabour
men who clearly don't want women to speak up for our rights to single sex spaces. How very progressive
#Section35
Look what we did ! ❤️ Huge thanks to all the wonderful Haringey Council staff who put their heart and soul in to delivering Olive Morris Court. A pioneering scheme of 32 modular homes for single homeless people made possible by funding from the GLA

.
What a vile thing to say. 5 people attacked in Hainault possibly fighting for lives. My colleague got caught up in cordon on his way to work. However THIS 👇🏻is what former BNP Cllr for area says. On behalf of Redbridge Unison keep the far right out of Local Government
Yesterday I spoke up. We must find common ground and it’s not by describing those who want to have a conversation about sex and gender as bigots or fascists. The Twitter wars must stop, otherwise we rip ourselves apart.
Completion of 114 Council homes in Haringey. 103 at Rosa Luxemburg Apartments 11 at Joy Gardner House. This is result of 3 yrs of hard work. Huge thanks to officers involved,
@Danhawthorn
@davidthomasjoy
Alan Benson, Robbie Erbmann for changing peoples lives. Look what we did!
My proudest moment yesterday in politics. Handing over first keys to their new Haringey council homes to two wonderful women with
@SadiqKhan
@tomcopley
and
@CllrEjiofor
. Last night at Haringey full council I said that my socialism was not about grand words but real action.
.
@OwenJones84
brilliant comment on Sky news “Reds under beds, Totalitarian Stalinists who are going to nationalise everyone’s mothers” yep that’s Haringey Labour. I think most of us need a cup of tea and Lemon drizzle cake pre “thuggery”. A glimpse of some candidates for context
.
@DailyMailUK
fact check Nora Mulready is NOT a Labour Cllr and never has been. However glad that finally her views have made the Daily Mail where lots of Labour members in Haringey have believed for a long time they belong
@PhilipGlanville
Please please can councils put out an information campaign for Cypriot nationals like mum who came here fleeing Cyprus conflict got ILR but never applied for British Citizenship for many reasons including huge cost. If they haven’t got their Winter Fuel payment this might be why
Yesterday morning I posted a tweet of me canvassing for Sadiq Khan and he retweeted. Since then as I have been tagged I have been shocked by the Islamophobic and racist abuse he receives. That people can be so openly Islamophobic is a heartbreaking indictment of our society.
Huge thank you to my Labour Party National Constitutional Committee colleagues for electing me as Chair of the NCC at today’s AGM. Member discipline and conduct must ensure the public trust us to hold public office and be the strongest we can in making our case to the electorate
What happened to Rosie happened to many of us on smaller scale - we are scarred. Shout out to my Labour sisters
@EmmaBurnell_
@EllieCumbo
@AnnDHenderson
@soniasodha
to name a few, we occupy different spaces in Labour party but without you last few years would have been harder
Some MPs' cowardice, or a genuine lack of knowledge about what was happening is one thing. But pretending you got it, were against the ideology all along and were too scared to speak up while others were being bullied for doing so makes you lower than a snake's belly....1/
Some people have the arrogance of privilege to think that they are. Our words have impact especially when we have influence and we must use it responsibly to unite and never to divide. I am not scared of any of you. Kick the windows, spit, hurl abuse I am still standing.
Last night I sent Director of Progress evidence he had seen that someone he retweets posts islamophobic tropes. His response to a Muslim was that I was trying to SMEAR I am still in shock. He knew she resigned from Labour but told me to submit complaint if it “stacked up”.
Who is the middle class Corbynista you refer to? Candidates standing in West Green are young Kurdish man from Broadwater Farm, young talented Black man, a musician replaced a middle class retired teacher who stood down. You should apologise to the candidates and check sources
Haringey School Governing bodies should defy the Government and not reopen on Monday except for key workers and vulnerable children. They would certainly have mine and many of my colleagues support on Haringey Council. Please move to online learning until it’s safe.
The person I challenged did not and still refuses to understand the impact of their words, but there is nothing that continuing a Twitter spat gains other than entrenching in one’s position. My ears are never closed and I don’t think I am always right.
There you have it. The first BME woman in UK to potentially become a directly elected mayor and the media describe it as a “coup”. Absolutely shameful. She got more VOTES then him! That’s called democracy not a coup!
#NewhamMayor
@IpekOzerim
Exactly Ipek - it was stomach churning i had to spend some time explaining exactly what my mums status was. i had so hoped that getting my mum to take her old pre Cyprus joining the EU passports with us was just my anxiety but I was right not to trust their system
Proud to have voted tonight at Haringey Council Corporate Committee to make the Order under London Building Act 1939 Section 6(1) to change the name of Black Boy Lane in Tottenham to La Rose Lane
Publicly challenging extremities of Gender debate is not easy. I have felt impact of trying to myself. Thank you Laura for so clearly stating where the parameters should absolutely never extend to. It’s always ok to strongly disagree and challenge but NEVER to threaten violence.
Violence against women is wrong, full stop. Encouraging people to punch “terfs” in the face, esp when cheered by hundreds (as happened at Trans Pride) should worry us all. That many on the left look away is indicative of a fearful culture,silencing many basic feminist principles.
I opened London Labour Conference today. Welcomed hundreds of delegates. Good debate, Angela Rayner and Dawn Butler gave great speeches. But at 4.30pm Kathryn Johnson CAC chair was clear “we will not be silenced” immediately she was and all delegates booted out. Need explanation
Left speechless by Stalinesque move by

#KathrynJohnson4LabourLeader
Outrageous example of full on party democracy, one Cllr was sitting in his car in tears of joy last week when he was told of the sheer numbers of people pouring in to the selection meetings. In 2009 the ward I represent selected with 9 people in room. Those days OVER for Haringey
This is spot on. Haringey deselections are outrageous sectarianism but across rest of country Momentum has failed to unseat more than a handful of sitting cllrs
Many Haringey Labour members shocked by doxxing of
@chakrabortty
by a public office holder in our borough “..freedom to hold opinions *without interference*, and to seek, receive, and impart information and ideas through any media ...UN dec of Human Rights - Freedom of Press
@DerbyChrisW
@RichardAngell
@jeremycorbyn
@CST_UK
Richard Angell on the other hand flat refuses to stop retweeting Mulready from Haringey who tweets Islamophobic tropes regularly. Oppose all forms of racism and bigotry? Nah not when Richard thinks they are “impressive”
@OwenJones84
“whatever happened in your lives” is this how we find common ground? My mum took me and my sister in middle of night and fled years of domestic violence when we were 9 and 10. I never saw my childhood friends again. Don’t you dare sneer at our lives.
Ash knows a grand total of ZERO about Cazenove ward clearly. Ash, Cazenove has never been safe Labour. Any North London Labour activist could have told you that, or you could just check it’s electoral history on Wikipedia.
The Cazenove council by-election is a masterclass in incompetence. Labour reinstated a candidate suspended for transphobic tweets, just hours before polls opened.
They lost to a Tory, in one of the safest Labour seats in the country, despite having a 27pt national polling lead!
To those providing a mood music for the likes of Tommy Robinson to turn his attention to our borough - my message to you is we chased the far right out of Haringey in 1976 and if you try to open the door to them again we will chase them out again
#LaRoseLane
@MikeGapes
Mike as someone who has respect for you whilst differing I am really sad that you would egg on a man who has spent months bullying and intimidating fellow Labour Cllrs. Joe’s behaviour is indefensible. The thread you quote includes a lie about me so I will ask you to remove.
@OwenJones84
My point is not about the mascot it just happened that that picture was in a post in which you are ranting. My point is about the way you engage in any disagreement. The video I refer to is the one in which you talk about “whatever happened in someone’s life”.
Fantastic Labour NEC result - this is the third internal election where a woman of colour has topped the poll and second in a row where it’s been a woman from a Muslim background. Our party is changing and my message to Labour First and Progress is “don’t block up the hall”
Progress on Rosa Luxemburg building in Tottenham. Over 100 council homes to usher in our new generation of housing for families and single homeless who need secure homes at council rents.
🧱Our work to build a new generation of council homes is gathering pace. Here’s a recent snap of progress at the Rosa Luxembourg building. See more at

Haringey’s inspiring Gill Taylor who I was proud to work with for 3yrs on our homelessness work. Gill has turned down an MBE .. “My work has had an impact in spite of the state, not because of it and it’s certainly had nothing to do with the British empire

Ward campaign with David Lammy MP, Bambos Charalambos MP and Deputy Mayor of London Joanne Mccartney Huge turn out supporting our candidates. Vote Labour in Haringey on May 3rd !
Tonight at dusk till 11pm we will light the iconic BBC transmitter mast Green over London at our Peoples Palace Alexandra Palace in remembrance of all those who lost their lives in Grenfell Tower.
I was sent the screen shots because people are scared to stand up to you but I am not scared anymore ENOUGH You are a bully! You can shout and boom all you like. It’s time people spoke up. Your fabricated allegations to publicly shame Adam Jogee or me will not go unchallenged.
Emine has blocked me so find it particularly weird she is a) stalking me & b) trolling me. This is classic momentum strategy - bully, then plead victim when people stand up to u?
Proud to be in top 4 Labour London wide list candidates for upcoming London election and first member of the London Cypriot diaspora to be in with a chance of election to GLA. Out leafleting for

Homelessness isn't a crime. We won't collaborate with the Government's change to immigration rules for rough sleepers which we believe is unfair and discriminatory. We will do all we can to help and protect anyone sleeping rough in Islington.

Last night was Annual Rough Sleeping Count in Haringey. I returned to base at Green Rooms after thankfully managing to get one rough sleeper in Tottenham Green in taxi to the Travelodge in Finsbury Park. A particularly stark misty night. Very proud of our passionate staff
@keepsayingit1
Yes - my mums English isn’t great but what helped was that she had two daughters with her in our late 40’s speaking fluent English and we had British Passports and it was quickly apparent to him that we were born in the UK and that she did live here.
Whoever thinks saying we must save lives of homeless people is “unfortunate language” hasn’t looked out of the window at London’s cold snowy streets. I’ll tell you a uncomfortable truth - every unnecessary delay to the homes we need is a death sentence to people who are homeless
As a woman, once an adolescent girl, what struck me in the findings of the Cass review is huge over representation of adolescent girls, body image and potential impact of social media. How men in positions of relative power still make it about them stuns me……or maybe it doesn’t
Can I have some clarity here?
As a gay man with a twin sister, the first feminist principle our mother impressed on us was:
There’s nothing innate about the toys girls and boys play with, or the activities you do
While I am on rant about the erasing of working class people from North London and Islington - and the appropriation of our neighbourhoods - hummus, olives, pitta bread, falafel is staple working class food in the parts of the world a huge demographic of North London comes from.
The alleged progressive swing voter I was responding to before this pile on was instigated was gloating about Labour losing to Tories in Cazenove ward in Hackney. Wow how very progressive! I hope the Tories serve your progressive ambitions well - however I will stick to Labour
It's very interesting to see how Labour Party candidates respond to progressive swing voters (don't let the door hit you on the way out) vs how they respond to conservative swing voters (please baby come back, I can change).
Despicable politicisation of the death of Peter Connelly (he has a name). How dare you or anyone attempt to fan flames of division using a child murdered under such tragic circumstances following catastrophic failures in Haringey. Hopefully momentary ill judgement.
@Hapoel4
The Labour NEC, nor the left faction, had nothing to when Haringey failed its must vulnerable resident (BabyP) but now Haringey are trying to defy Tory austerity (rebuild poor social housing) the middle classes are outraged about ownership models with no alternative 🤦♂️
5 years since the devastating

fire claimed so many lives. Tomorrow at dusk till 11pm we will light the iconic BBC transmitter mast Green at Alexandra Palace over London in remembrance. Thanks to Board for supporting first urgent decision as Chair of our Peoples Palace
Haringey Council’s letter to Schools laying out facts about infection rates in borough asking schools to remain closed. Defying this reckless Tory Government to protect health and lives of children and families is a duty. If Tories dare take us to court it’s a duty we must defend
Are Chartwells receiving £15 per child on free school meals and distributing £1.50 of food? If their business model can’t withstand school closures step aside! Government must help councils to bring catering in house. Give vouchers now and start municipalisation of school dinners
How many working class North Londoners are sick to the back teeth of being erased by posh people characterising
#Islington

Just received my ballot from UNISON and I have voted YES for strike action on pay. 1.75% and 2.75% for the lowest paid is not better than nothing it’s a real terms pay cut if you take in to account inflation and increase in National Insurance

The survey you allege would have been of interest to the Housing and Regeneration Scrutiny Panel evidence gathering which I chaired ALL Cllrs invited to participate and contribute. I can provide evidence of this. None came forward with survey - I would have liked to hear
It’s been 3 yrs in Cllr Joe Ejiofor administration. You’re a legend Comrade. You faced rigged up pictures in African dictators uniforms, monkey tweets, called semi literate, Cllr’s English being mocked, Islamophobia, threats but delivered a transformative Haringey Labour agenda
Lovely to canvass in Highbury West for
@BashOIbrahim

@Semakaleng
with Jeremy Corbyn. Reception on doorstep in Aubert Park Avenell Rd off the scale. Here we are in front of old Highbury Stadium East Stand. Special as me and my family sat in East stand

Vile Islamophobic conspiracy theory from “Labour source” in this article. To say Muslims won’t vote Labour because we are challenging anti Semitism is as racist and reckless as saying Jewish people won’t vote Labour because party challenges Islamophobia. STOP dividing communities
If Labour loses in Batley and Spen it won't necessarily mark the end of Keir Starmer's leadership. But looking at the poison seeping out of that by-election, maybe it would be better for him if it did > Mail On Sunday >
This was me with my fellow GLA London wide Labour List sisters in Tower Hamlets the last time we could go out on Labour doorstep for

Disgusting public bullying and attempted public shaming. This guy is out of control. Bullying in action. He is cabinet Member in Haringey and these tweets are directed at a fellow Labour Cllr - referencing another Labour Cllr.
So proud today to extend contract on Somewhere Safe to Stay in Muswell Hill for people sleeping rough in Haringey. it. We jumped like children for joy when me and the wonderful Gill Taylor were told we could use old Cranwood Care home. Things that make the last few years worth it
Thank you to all the lovely women across the traditions of the North London Labour Party today who supported me and rooted for me at London Labour Regional conference. We lost but we also won in many ways
I am quite teary about how wonderful non factional sisterhood feels.

Devastated at the news of the passing of Hasan Raif, a legendary fighter for peace and reunification of Cyprus. Hasan’s work within the Cypriot Diaspora over decades and on the UK Cypriot Left cannot even be quantified. RIP Hasan Raif
Really excited to see the quick progress on Rosa Luxemburg building in Tottenham. 104 Council homes well on their way to completion. Windows are now going in. Life changing for families and single homeless people on our waiting list and families in overcrowded homes.
The Rosa Luxemburg building in Tottenham Hale has leapt ahead in recent weeks as we’ve begun to install windows. Did you know we’re providing 104 council homes at council rents at this site?

Yes - Spat on when trying to attend a meeting at Labour conference, then people trying to kick the windows in, cross examined at interview to be a PPC leaving in floods of tears, Villified on social media for asking for a calm debate and supporting friend standing to be a Cllr.
I'm glad to see Wes Streeting acknowledge the role the Labour party has played in contributing to the toxicity of the debate around the conflict between women's and trans rights. Some Labour gender critical women have experienced awful bullying from within their own party.
Site visit this morning with Leader Cllr Joseph Ejiofor to formal groundbreak of Rosa Luxemburg Apartments in Tottenham - construction work is progressing fast This Haringey Labour administration is proud to honour

and looking forward to handing keys to 104 households
This is a thoughtful and balanced response to a thoughtful and balanced review. I have argued for so long that the complex debate on Gender identity needs move away from politically combative extreme language. I am starting to feel we may finally get there.
The Cass Review must be a watershed moment for the NHS’s gender identity services.

The UK government needs to relaunch the EveryoneIn policy and financially support Councils to protect people who become homeless during this Lockdown. In Haringey we are continuing to support every rough sleeper with with emergency accommodation. However we must be able to widen
