Offensive linemen are my favorite thing in all of sports.
Their sole job is to ensure their teammates are able to perform well & remain protected.
They compete knowing they will not record statistics, or receive fanfare & media coverage.
Offensive linemen; I love you all.
"I have nothing in common with lazy people who blame others for their lack of success. Great things come from hard work and perseverance. No excuses."
- Kobe Bryant

A targeting ejection is 9% of of a college season.
⚠️ IMAGINE ⚠️
NBA player going for a block, accidentally hitting the opposing player in the head. Ejected for 7 games.
MLB second baseman goes for a tag, makes contact on the head. Ejected for 15 games.
CHANGE THE RULE
Jalen Hurts is absolutely 1st class.
Pulled in the national title game, follows the OC, listens to every call, cheers on the other QB. Not many men would handle themselves that way in that scenario.
First. Class.

Maybe the best quote I’ve ever heard:
“When we send the Army into a fight, we don’t send them to ‘participate.’ We don’t send them to ‘try their hardest.’ We send them to win. And you did. Winning matters.”

“I would say there’s a 10% chance I think this petition will change anything...
... and when I say 10%, I obviously mean 60%...
... it’s 100% gonna happen.”

Culture > Talent
Coaches sometimes think talent is the more valuable commodity.
That’s because it’s easier to find talent than to cultivate culture.
Wins & loses are a reflection of culture more than talent.
Everyone has talented players.
Elite culture is rare.
Do you love physical football?
Do you love Fullbacks?
Do you love America?
Good news: 2021 Army Football is right around the corner!

I’ve been on this earth for 38 years & I have been coaching for 18 of them.
I know two absolute certainties:
• If you ever get the chance to work for Jeff Monken, do it.
• If you ever get the chance to play for Jeff Monken, do it.

Congress should have to take a test on every bill.
If a member of congress fails to score 80% or higher on the content of that bill, they can’t vote to pass it.
Forces everyone to read the bill.
Forces everyone to comprehend the bill.
Forces everyone to write a better bill.
The best advice I can give someone looking to become a Head Coach: Hire a staff of good people that are loyal as dogs.
It’s much easier to learn scheme & technique than it is to learn character & personality.
The world lost a great man today & we lost a great friend.
Dean McQueen taught us so much about happiness, love, & friendship.
He loved everyone with his whole heart & we all loved him so much.
He will be missed deeply.
Brandon Baker (1988-2021)
Terrell Davis is in the Hall Of Fame because of Special Teams.
That was his way on the field as a rookie.
He took advantage of this opportunity to become a Super Bowl Champion & legendary RB.
Everyone’s journey to success starts somewhere. Find your opportunity. This was his.
‼️ FUN FACT‼️
When Hayden Fry was hired at Iowa, he contacted the Pittsburgh Steelers equipment staff in order to match the uniforms.
He wanted Iowa to look like the most dominant team of the current era to help transition the culture.
Absolute genius!
Being tough is cool.
Not needing attention all the time is cool.
Perseverance through hard times is cool.
Taking a joke is cool.
Being level-headed is cool.
Making a point without screaming or belittling is cool.
Taking risks & failing is cool.
Pass it along.
If your favorite school is ever going through a coaching change, hope they hire a coach like this.
A team full of love & respect is the most valuable thing you can put on a résumé.
So great to see this!
After long & heated contract negations with his agent, I am happy to announce Brandon Baker has officially joined the staff as Director of Player Morale!
