Presented as a fun contest and not to be taken too seriously!
Worst Monster, Round 2, Match 3
It's some right oddities today, one from NuWho and one from the Tom era!! It's waving sheets v big green bag, so please vote for the one you think the worst!
#DoctorWho
Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you our Champion of the Covers Contest.....
Roy Knipe's epic DEATH TO THE DALEKS!
The last poll was fittingly the biggest of them all, and by quite some way!! Thanks to all who voted and especially for the 134 RTs....that's what boost polls!!
The Books Advent Calendar - Day 8
Does everyone have one of these? Back in the 80s, this was one of my proudest possessions, a remarkable book with a rich history of the show. Peter Haining's books were so loved by fans.
OK...
Three Axons and a Krynoid walk into a bar. Axon says "three pints and a shandy for the trainee".
Barman looks at Krynoid and says "he's a trainee Axon?"
"Yes" says the Axon "we're showing him the ropes as he's still a bit green"
Ladies and gentlemen, your Champion of the UK Telefantasy series is....
BLAKE'S 7
Biggest poll of the contest was reserved for the Final, thanks to all who voted and supported the contest from beginning to end!
Bargain in a charity shop today, the first 3 series complete for a princely 3 pounds.
It has a great Doctor Who pedigree, but I've never seen it - is it any good?
The 1969 annual wins and is crowned the Champion Best Cover of the Miscellaneous fiction section!
Thanks to all who voted and special thanks as always for all the RTs. Indded, thanks to all of you who have voted in the 738 polls over the past two years!!
Today's charity shop haul in Bath. All from one shop. 18 in total ( the picture missed out the second version of the Movie).
Go on, guess how much for the lot?
The votes are in.... And the World Cup Winner is Germany"s fabulous take on the Dalek Invasion of Earth!
Thanks to all who voted and especially for those RTs!
A longish tweet about the lighthouse in tonight's episode of
#DoctorWho
It's West Usk Lighthouse near Newport. It's now in private hands, although you can stay there! The owner is an absolute Doctor Who fanatic, he must have been thrilled that they filmed there!!
1 of 2...
Chris Achilleos painted the first 32 DW Target covers. To mark his passing, here's the covers you voted as best 1st Doctor cover, 1st and 2nd in the 2nd Doctor section, and Runner-up in the 3rd Doctor category.
RIP, Chris, and thank you
Back "on air" after some quiet time to digest the news about Terrance and to mourn his passing. I can't over-estimate his importance both to me and the series. I'm one of many who learned to love books through Terrance's work, and it's the Targets that made me a fan. RIP mate.
Biggest vote of all!
First vote into the 800s!
First vote into the 900s!
Thanks to all who voted and especially for those RTs!
The winner? Death to the Daleks!!
The object of the campaign is: Terrance Dicks to be honoured with an OBE, MBE, CBE, whatever is appropriate.
Reason: "Services to children's literature". Or making a lot of us big readers!
While you fight it out over the pink poodle (
@paulmagrs
the dog is doing you proud!) have a look at my find in an Antiques Shop today.
Never seen one in the wild before. It's a bit battered, but I don't have one and it was £7. Do I have a bargain?
Some of the internal illustrations from the Japanese edition of "The Daleks" - or "The Big Bloody Space-Time Battle" which is how it translates!! All courtesy of
@brandybongos

Surrounded by Daleks
Cutting off the static electricity
The glass Dalek!
I've stayed silent over this, but now I have to comment on Poodlegate.
Nobody is trying to "destroy" the contest
I call them "fun polls". We're not electing a Government
Doctor Who fans are simply having fun, don't you think this toxic fandom needs a bit of fun in it?
@theDWshow
@DoctorWhoNovels
This sad episode has made me abandon the whole competition. This cover was originally created purely to embarrass and troll fans. Now we have a bunch of people getting a kick out using it to destroy a competition designed to remember real artists and their work.
Thanks for the responses yesterday.
Six people who thought it fun to send DMs to tell me how much they hated all of the foreign covers are now unable to do so any longer. Or indeed see the polls as I've blocked them.
Just in case you didn't know, the cover for "The Time Travellers" is based on a sculpture in London called "The Traffic Light Tree". Read about it here:
The Books Advent Calendar - Day 20
Two for the price of one, how we loved these when they first came out. They've been revised and re-issued but nothing beats the thrill of the original pair in red and blue
Wow. Where do I start?
A come from behind victory for Mad Dogs, the biggest poll of them all so far, the most RTs ever on a poll and some brilliant joshing and encouraging. Thanks everyone, and especially for all the RTs and promotion, that's what made the 1000+ votes!
#Humbled
This straw Dalek was created by
@Snugburys
Ice Cream Farm in Cheshire to mark the 50th anniversary in 2013. Saw it from the road and nearly put the car in the hedge! Had to stop and take photos (and buy some of their lovely ice cream!). More info:
Final minutes to get your vote in for Earthshock...
...and while we're waiting, "Time-Flight" isn't in the early qualifier polls as there's only one cover, but IF this existed, how gorgeous is this??
I'm at football in a small village in Yorkshire. Something caught my eye on the other side of the ground so I went to have a look....
....and found this in someone's back garden!

Cover Contest - Match 560 - THE FINAL
It's the GRAND FINAL!! The two best covers as voted by you battle it out for the title - which one wins? YOU decide!!
Please vote, then please RT quoting the poll as it puts your words in context and RTs the poll far and wide!
The Books Advent Calendar - Day 23
Three days left, so what do I think are the top three non-Fiction Who books ever? Well, at number 3 is this wonderful book by David Banks, a book I've read and re-read dozens of times. An absolute must-have for any DW fan!
Is Dinosaur Invasion the very best Target of them all? Huge character development, a lovely intro chapter, a great story well told and no woeful effects to spoil it, just real dinosaurs in your imagination. One of those absolute Hulke classics!
Another photo from Longleat 1983. I have no idea how I managed to sneak into this panel, I certainly didn't queue!! I remember going into all of the exhibits via the exit and looking at them in the wrong order....
Now Ive had safe delivery, I can talk about my Ebay adventure this week. Saw a regular sort of listing for a job lot of Targets, but one with reissues that I don't have so I had a closer look - and spotted this amongst them....
I thought this was genius!
(and alongside the original for comparison....)
Can the owner of this (and several others similar) drop me a message so that I can credit you correctly, I'm really sorry but I've forgotten who sent them to me!
My turn for a good find in a charity shop today!
Can't believe how good the condition of the annual is, and on dale for just £2!!!
The other book cost me 50p, don't know of it at all, anyone read it?
Well played,
@jonculshaw
. On Mastermind tonight, Jon's specialist subject - Doctor Who, the Pertwee era. Every question right, no passes. Total respect!
This is my favourite picture of
@jfmouthonlegs
and it's one I took myself! This is at clean-up Birmingham Campaign 1986. I said "Say cheese Janet!" and caught this picture. Can't believe how well it came out! A lovely photo of a lovely lady
The Brazilian edition is bizarre. The title is "Doctor Who and the Change of History". The Daleks are from Louis Marx (the toy factory not the author), the Doctor appears to be the 1st Doctor, and the Ogron is played by Max Wall. Or is it a Klingon?
Went for a walk down the canal path yesterday afternoon when all of a sudden, wife says "surprised you haven't said anything yet" and points across the water to a back garden....
Antiques Roadshow just had someone on with a complete original Dalek playsuit (with box) from the 60s! It was valued at £200 to £300....but I reckon ten times that due to its scarcity value.
Anyone any ideas?
Some moaning that last night's story was a retread of "8 legged freaks". Remember that season where all they did was rip off other stories? Loch Ness Monster - Jekyll & Hyde - The Mummy - Bodysnatchers - Frankenstein - Day of the Triffids. That was a shit season wasn't it?
There are some stunning alternatives for Resurrection, all seriously better than the official one! Here are the NZDWFC unofficial version, my favourite fan version (unknown, info please!), one from
@LeeBinding
and one from
@Andydrewz
Thought I'd show you some "fake" Target covers of books that have been in the polls over the last few days!
The first three are all by the splendid
@herbarianband
whilst the final one is Ghost Light as a Target using the Video cover
OK then - are we ready for another Covers Contest?
"Yes!" I hear you say (although it sounded a lot like "Oh God, no!"). We are looking at the splendid fakes created by fans and artists alike, one contest for re-imagined Targets, and another for Targets of NuWho stories...!!
I see DWM are helping with the cost of living crisis by throwing in a poster with the latest edition and charging an extra £3 for the privilege.
That's a 37% increase on the previous issue.
I placed the copy I was going to buy back on the shelf. I'll give it a miss.

Cover Contest - Match 733
Second Quarter Final, and what a match!!! Two 60s covers, which is your favourite of these two and goes to the Semi Final? YOU decide!!
Please vote, then help us by RT the poll as a "quote tweet". Let's get it out to all the fans! Thanks!
Favourite Fakes
Here's a dozen of my favourite fake Target covers!! Today its numbers 5-8
Edge of Destruction by Koko Pryanto (art) and made into a cover by me!

@ColinHowardArt
The Happiness Patrol by
@Andydrewz
Resurrection of Daleks by
@LeeBinding
We went and won the local pub quiz last night. Expected to get a few quid and a free carvery or something, but instead we won this.
We have no idea what to do with it, but when we googled it, apparently they are about £600 😯
After reading the Hartnell World Cup in
@DWMtweets
, how tied up in knots are they with these "alternate titles"? Every time they have to say "aka The Daleks" to avoid confusion so just drop it, guys, we all know that it's called "The Daleks" and this is "The Mutants"
Spent the weekend in the company of the delightful
@thenicolabryant
at
@emconcouk
as her "PA" at the show. It's been really lovely, we've laughed a lot and met some smashing people! Look forward to meeting again, Miss Bryant!

Cover Contest - Match 557 - PLAY OFF QFs
Here we go, last of the QFs, which of these two fantastic covers gets a place in the last four? YOU choose!
Please vote, then please RT quoting the poll as it puts your words in context and RTs the poll far and wide!
Wow, what a great start to the campaign to honour Terrance Dicks!! Thank you to all who have shown your support, when you see popular writers, politicians, and journalists in the first batch of emails back you can see how much influence Terrance really has had over so many of us.
