1 woman in 8 pages of authors/readings. No people of colour. The absolute STATE of jurisprudence teaching at elite universities. It's 2023. Dismal. Even I taught Derrida's Force of Law at Oxford (ie critical jurisprudence) and there was a week of feminist readings! ๐คฆ๐พโโ๏ธ๐ฉ
Like Ralph Wilde's performance at the ICJ this week, Pankaj Mishra's talk ("The Shoah after Gaza")
@LRB
today was *truly* a tour de force, an uncancellable message for those who understood the cry of "never again" to be a universal rather than particular entreaty.

Please do this! I once got an email like this from an ICJ judge and I *still* think about it whenever I feel low about my work/myself. ๐๐พ(It's also just nice to know people read you.)
No I don't have "concerns" about this or my safety as a cis woman - white female public lawyers/scholars who say I do/should have concerns, you do not speak for me. I am a trans ally. We'll done Scotland!

The Gender Recognition Reform Bill has passed the Scottish Parliament by 86 to 39.
This is a piece of legislation which will make the lives of trans people - one of the most marginalised minorities in society - a little bit easier.
Bravo to the 86.
๐ข I promised news below, so here it is! I have new designed a new interdisciplinary LLM course on "Critical Space Law", the first of its kind now offered in the UK! ๐ฅณ๐ฅณ๐ฅณ The course offers a critical understanding of extant space law, and its topics include, among others:

Apropos nothing, I think it's important to clarify what I have *not* said (being a WoC a lot gets assumed/projected):
1) all analytical and natural law jurisprudence lacks value;
2) Raz/Kelsen/Hart should never be taught in any UG "introduction to juris" courses;
So much knee-jerk bitchiness in this. I guess it underscores the importance of LPE in the US, trying to overcome the narrow conservatism of the disciplinary gatekeeper.
Sorry folks, just b/c I am brown & my mom was Hindu, does not mean I am an apologist for/proud of the Hindu Right (Modi/Hindutva) & the Tory Hindu Right, *wherever* they are elected. Non-white people become rich/powerful/successful in the UK when they serve racial capitalism.
Today was my/our mother's birthday, the first without her. Happy birthday Roopee wherever you are! It's not quite two months since you've gone. Raising a toast to you and your incredible life. RIP. xxx

The news that my dear friend Robert Cryer has passed away is now public. I was so upset about this yesterday that I didn't sleep a wink until 7:30am today. I couldn't stop thinking about him, all our conversations and times together for the four years I was at Birmingham
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Professor Robert Cryer. A great scholar, generous colleague, and beloved friend, he will be deeply missed by all at BLS, and by the community of international lawyers in which he was so highly and warmly esteemed. Vale Rob.
