İn London, the march for Palestine is so huge that we’ve been barely able to move down the street for an hour!
“İn our thousands, in our millions, we are all Palestinians”
We need an internationalism that does not reflexively resort to waving the flag of a nation-state--even when under attack--as the primary form of expressing solidarity. We need to think beyond the nation-state form in situating "our" side in war and peace alike.
Calling on all scholars of human rights and international law: Despite the intimidation many of us are facing, we must raise our voices against Israel's current and impending massacre of Palestinians in Gaza. We must mobilize now or live with the shame of complicity forever.
I was harassed by a woman on a London bus today for speaking in Turkish on the telephone. She told me to fuck off to another seat (which I refused). It occurred to me to ask if it was the sound of Turkish that bothered her. That was indeed the case; she proudly confirmed.
I was going to teach at University of Vienna

Neither ICJ ruling, nor UN Security Council resolution. No international institution proves capable of stopping the genocide unfolding in front of our eyes in Palestine. This is a damning indictment of the totality of international law and the international order it maintains.
Today was the last official day of the

Germany has misunderstood the implications of its own genocidal history, particularizing rather than universalizing the meaning of "Never Again."
Once again, it defends the indefensible, justifying proudly racialized mass murder.
Yesterday, LSE and KCL students walked out of classes in solidarity with Palestine and marched through central London to meet with protesting students from SOAS and UCL.

Still speechless. The one and only Ruthie Wilson Gilmore electrified us all at the LSE last night. May we all mobilize our courage, our “rage and curiosity” to change—nothing short of everything.

South Africa's legal team already achieved something remarkable. It managed to express beautifully the global cry for justice for Palestinians. It was an act of international solidarity that restored faith, regardless of the legal outcome, in the "basic precepts of humanity."
İ still cannot get over the fact that LSE Law School invited this person to speak on campus, who says, when confronted by our students, that he “rather be a racist than a bore.” Shame.
'I'd rather be a racist than a bore' – Israeli historian Benny Morris at

LSE campus changed over the strike days. Students and staff have remade social relations, subverting usual academic hierarchies in beautiful moments of solidarity and action. We've come closer to each other, knowing better now that another university is possible.

We are inviting submissions that address the unfolding catastrophe we are witnessing in Gaza. Submissions can take different forms: 2000-3000 word essays, longer articles, poetry or experimental genres which speak to our devastating present.

UN human rights expert warns of new instance of mass ethnic cleansing of Palestinians, calls for immediate ceasefire:
"There is a grave danger that what we are witnessing may be a repeat of the 1948 Nakba, and the 1967 Naksa, yet on a larger scale."
Cultural institutions in "the West" which keep canceling authors, artists and academics for speaking up on Palestine reveal the racially policed limits of "liberal" free speech. Still, we'll find the words, and as necessary, amplify or whisper them, too.
I had shared this picture from Gezi Park ten years ago today. In the decade since, Turkey has become more authoritarian, more neoliberal, more nationalist, more oppressive for too many to ignore, but too few to change it all.
Digging through my undergraduate archives, found Benedict Anderson’s comments on my essay addressing Partha Chatterjee’s critique of İmagined Communities. (With Anderson's recommendation, I was later admitted to

LSE's response to the anti-apartheid student protest on campus this week is utterly unacceptable.
Calling for a *police investigation* amounts to criminalizing dissent on our campus.

New academic term about to begin at UK universities. What will colleagues teach, what will we say and do about the

in Gaza unfolding in front of our eyes? Silence is not an option; clarity and courage are required.
It is the duty of every scholar of human rights and international law, every UN worker and every journalist, every parliamentarian and every human being to do all we can to stop this catastrophe.

All governments, universities, parliamentarians and journalists enabling Israel's violence are implicated.

“STOP THE WORLD FOR GAZA,” their enormous banner reads in white capital letters against a long black background.
1. Invade a country. Say you will create 'enduring freedom' by defeating a rogue regime.
2. Kill, maim, and torture hundreds of thousands of residents.
3. Create a catastrophe.
4. Decide to withdraw your troops.
5. Watch as 'responsible' people beg you to stay.
6. Repeat.

The strategy of the opposition in Turkey, catering to "ultra-nationalists" in the name of ousting Erdogan makes me think of Walter Benjamin's warning: "One reason why Fascism has a chance is that in the name of progress its opponents treat it as a historical norm."

1) Critical reading involves joining generations of interpreters and partaking in traditions of reading while developing your own interpretation of texts.
