Yesterday,
@DenverSheriff
Elias Diggins allowed inmates awaiting trial or serving on a misdemeanor offense to vote if they were eligible to vote. Civic participation can reduce recidivism, supports public safety goals & connects people to their community.
The Sheriff has ordered an internal review to determine why notification to ICE did not take place before Zamarripa-Castaneda was released. Our practice is to provide notification to ICE once an inmate enters the release process, upon ICE’s request.
We stand in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community and all impacted during this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families of the senseless tragedy that occurred this weekend in Colorado Springs.
Congratulations to our newest deputies joining the team! Today we welcomed the graduating class of 2020-3 into the fold. Looking forward to working alongside these wonderful people.
