I used to be terrified of being scammed, but if I allow myself to be scammed while trying to help someone, I have only lost money. If I refuse to help someone in genuine need for fear of being scammed I will have lost my sense of charity. You did the right thing.
It used to be that when passing a house flying an American flag the first response was pride in our country. Now it is often accompanied by a Confederate flag (yes, even in Maine) and a Trump flag, and the first response is that very stupid people live here.
We should be OK with a USA chant. We all should be. However the MAGA GOP has sullied its meaning, along with other things like the word Patriot. To them I say NO! I served my country. I am a patriot. Don't let the MAGAs defile true patriotism.
@DeanObeidallah
Actually, he was not deported for not being vaccinated, but was deported for lying on his entrance form, for failing to follow isolation protocols after having been exposed and even after finding he tested positive. Not being vaccinated was not the stupidest thing he has done.
@AdamKinzinger
I disagree with your politics for the most part, but there is something very reassuring about congressmen willing to put everything on the line for our country. Clearly your time in congress was more about service and less about self emolument. I salute you.

I disagree. Most people instinctively want to help others, not for any motive other than being of service, but over the last years we have become frightened of others. Overcoming this fear allows us to be truly ourselves, not to make a cynical bargain in the hope of reward.

Republicans, republicans will believe anything. They supported Trump after all, that is enough to turn anyones brain to mush.

Then speak the truth. Joe Biden is now President Elect Biden, and, rather than aspire to the highest office, has been elected to the highest office. Adding your voice to the cacophony of lies spouted by Trump et al. damages our country, our faith, and the office you hold.
@camjames__
This is especially true if the purpose of rolling up the sleeves is to get a vaccination that protects the man and all those with whom he comes in contact, including women. Include wearing a mask and you have a man who proves to be sensitive to the health and safety of others.
@Bishopoftyler
What this election is about is described succinctly in Matthew 25: 35-46. Ask which party is more likely to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, visit prisoners and the sick, welcome strangers, and vote for that party. These are the issues that Jesus emphasized.

A university is a community of scholars. Each individual is responsible for their own learning. The professor is a senior scholar whose principle responsibility is to share a love and enthusiasm for their discipline. The absurd view of students as customers is awful.
Our "pro-life" President has not carried out in the single year 2020 as many federal executions as had been carried out the previous 7 DECADES. Draw any conclusions that seem appropriate.

This is a disgraceful and seemingly intentional misstatement of facts. Almost every Catholic ethicist, including the Pope himself recognizes that your statement is incorrect and immoral. A Bishop who teaches outside of communion with the Pope and other Bishops is no Bishop.

Anyone who encourages someone to get an abortion is guilty of grave sin.
Those who encourage abortion in public, their Bishop can (and should) encourage them not to receive the Eucharist until they publicly repent and sacramentally confess.
Have you done this, act accordingly.

In my experience many of the people who shout "murder" in response to abortion the loudest also shout "welfare state" or "communism" in response to programs to make it easier for a woman to choose life.

Looking forward to hear if, in recognition of being given the responsibility of representing the people of Maine in the US Senate, you intend to speak out against your colleagues who are trying to overturn the election. Do you stand for democracy or not?
@Jolz_Aust
Very possibly, because it treats a human child as a commodity. It brings a baby into the world who will, by prior agreement, often never meet his/her biological mother. There are many children desperately in need of adoption.
Our parish has moved to not requiring masks of anyone who is vaccinated and based on the honor system for unvaccinated people to continue wearing a mask. NO ONE wore a mask. I can only conclude that people are not really serious about beating this virus.
@CalltoActivism
Another consideration - he has paid lip service to not wanting to testify against Trump. Now he is "forced" to testify in a situation where telling the truth, as he is required to do, could eliminate a political rival and put a guy who tried to get him hanged behind bars.

If those screaming "abortion is murder" are those who refuse to protect others by wearing a mask or getting vaccinated, and who proclaim their right to carry a weapon, it does tend to sour people on "pro-life". Associating respect for life with a lunatic fringe is a bad idea.

Some days before his death, Edward Jenner (smallpox vaccine) stated to a friend: "I am not surprised that men are not grateful to me; but I wonder that they are not grateful to God for the good which He has made me the instrument of conveying to my fellow creatures"
In 1757, Benedict XIV was variolated against smallpox.
Pius VII said the smallpox vaccine was "a precious discovery which ought to be a new motive for human gratitude to Omnipotence."
The 1st smallpox vaccine was in 1796 so the Church had been pro-vaccine since vaccines existed

I did have the more general "America's enemies endorse Trump" because all of our enemies benefit from having a totally incompetent person in the White House. Those who want to do America harm have only to look at what Trump is doing to America to recognize he is destroying us.

Or perhaps better, in a United States of America served by Joe Biden as President. A major problem the last four years is that DJT viewed the country as Trump's America. We NEVER want to grammatically indicate the US as the possession of any one or single group of people.

The California representative just called Trump the strongest pro-life president ever, not apparently realizing, or caring, that Trump’s administration killed a mentally ill woman last night. The Republicans generally don’t actually engage with the actual actions.
Our new Primer shows how insight from trajectory thermodynamics guides the design of molecular pumps and has led to novel mechanisms for active adsorption - mechanisorption - and creation of an electric molecular motor.

Far more impressive than the image is the realization that such rotation is, in a molecular system such as the flagellar motor, accomplished by biased brownian motion (i.e., diffusion on a sculpted energy landscape). There is NO inertia, and the physics is that of diffusion.
