@DeanObeidallah Actually, he was not deported for not being vaccinated, but was deported for lying on his entrance form, for failing to follow isolation protocols after having been exposed and even after finding he tested positive. Not being vaccinated was not the stupidest thing he has done.

Our parish has moved to not requiring masks of anyone who is vaccinated and based on the honor system for unvaccinated people to continue wearing a mask. NO ONE wore a mask. I can only conclude that people are not really serious about beating this virus.

@PetriOP I have no idea about most of the struggles of my spiritual director (a priest), and I imagine he would say the same about his spiritual director. Priests (and anyone acting as a spiritual director) need to be able to assist without burdening those they direct spiritually.

The California representative just called Trump the strongest pro-life president ever, not apparently realizing, or caring, that Trump’s administration killed a mentally ill woman last night. The Republicans generally don’t actually engage with the actual actions.

@PaulRieckhoff @mlasselin Obama and Biden had a pandemic response team. Trump disbanded them. An even half way competent response would have saved probably all over 100,000 lives. Instead, we had Trump in charge and many Americans are paying a heavy price for that lunacy.

@PenzeysSpices @stephaniekays People who choose not to be vaccinated despite overwhelming evidence that the vaccine is both effective and safe and essential to stop the pandemic are both foolish and selfish. They bloody well should feel guilty, because they are guilty.

I have been in academics for over 30 years, and have collaborated (I am a theorist) with many outstanding experimental labs who have had truly excellent Chinese students. Not a single academic that I know perceives this to be anything other than a "made up" problem for politics.

Far more impressive than the image is the realization that such rotation is, in a molecular system such as the flagellar motor, accomplished by biased brownian motion (i.e., diffusion on a sculpted energy landscape). There is NO inertia, and the physics is that of diffusion.

Outstanding paper, and beautiful graphic. This is a beautiful example of a Brownian motor and remarkably instructive wrt how catalysis can be used to do work and drive non-equilibrium chemistry.

It can be overlooked that biomotors are actually catalysts, but how can catalysis of a reaction lead to work being done? In @FieldenStephen & Shuntaro open new directions for both catalysis & molecular machine design. Pumped to see this out in @Nature !
