This is Benedict - he is a Pedal Powered Plumber. He carries all of his tools and stock around Bristol by bike. He fixed our taps today. 😀 We always support businesses that promote cycling!
The top deck of the number 47 bus, a route that is being cancelled from April the 1st due to low passenger numbers. The 47 serves Eastville, Lockleaze, St Werburghs & St Pauls. All areas with low rates of car ownership and high rates of bus dependence.
Doing some filming on Bristol Bridge. Been here for 10 minutes and seen 2 private vehicles going through the bus gate and one using the new segregated cycle lane to try avoid the camera!
I’ll report that one to
@ASPRoadSafety
BRISTOL DOES NOT NEED AN UNDERGROUND, IT NEEDS A WALKING, CYCLING AND VEHICLE PARKING PLAN. ONLY THEN WILL BUSES PROVIDING REAL MASS TRANSIT TO THE CITIZENS OF BRISTOL WORK. BONUS FACT: CARS WILL BE ABLE TO MOVE ROUND UNIMPEDED CAUSING LESS POLLUTION AND IMPROVING AIR QUALITY.
@BMW
The environmental impact that a personal BMW has before it is even purchased by the customer is way bigger than all the other three options combined. Cities designed for walking and cycling are the way to go. Ditch the car and save the planet.
This is
@BrentToderian
’s mega thread that’s been updated regularly over the past year about how electric cars are not quite the saviour of the driving community they are portrayed as.
Recommended for policy makers, councillors and realists.
Thank you Brent!
THREAD: I’m going to try this thread to clearly state my perspective on electric vehicles, car dependency and better cities, to those who frequently ask me, including media, elected leaders and many others. Here goes. Please share if you think it helps. 🧵
#EVS
This is excellent news and emphasises the old adage that if you build it, they shall come. Note that a single station in London, served mainly by a failing rail company, is getting £2.6B invested. Cycling in London will receive £770m over five years.
Hi
@BorisJohnson
you sent this letter to every home in the UK. It unequivocally gives one simple instruction: ”You must stay at home”. How can this be interpreted as ’I've got the virus, so it's ok to drive 260 miles to my second home, close to my parents, several times?’
As one of those critics, I'm not talking the city down, but I'm pushing for a city that is realistic in its expectations and is prepared to take difficult decisions to enable us to fight the climate crisis now, not in six years when it will be too late.

Wouldn’t it be more cost-effective in the long term to install bollards

?
Hey
@BristolCouncil
this flooding has been going on for months at the Junction 3 underpass. A man with a pram has been forced to try another route. Any chance of sorting it out?
A lot of emphasis has been put on the fact that
@bristolgreen
won all the wards in the new constituency of Bristol Central, making
@carla_denyer
the favourite to win.
Let's not forget, even if the boundaries had not changed, we won all the seats in Bristol West as well!
LIVE: Police and ambulance called as Land Rover crashes into wall - Bristol Live. This story fails to mention that an actual human being was driving this 3 ton steel bludgeon at the time.
Before and After.
Next job is to transfer on pavement parking zones for e-scooters and e-bikes to car parking bays.
Pavements are for pedestrians.
@bristolgreen
will make this happen.
Schemes to boost walking and cycling ‘must take women’s safety into account’. If you go to places like Bordeaux, Paris & Milan, you see more women on bicycles than men. These places have embraced women’s safety from the start. This is why they are successful. (1/2)

Expansion of Bristol Airport has been given the go-ahead by Government planning inspectors, who have allowed the airport's appeal against North Somerset council's refusal of planning permission.
Be careful cycling around the centre at for the next couple of days.
Concrete blocks have been placed in most cycle lanes and pavements to stop the drivers of cars interrupting the Armistice Service on Sunday.
Bristol named the worst city for dangerous driving in the UK - Bristol Live. Every cyclist in Bristol knows this already. More enforcement is needed by

I'm on Cheltenham Road. There currently seven vehicles parked up on the pavement ignoring double yellow lines. I've just rung parking services on 01179038070, they've told me someone will be along in around half an hour.
Hi
@BristolWater
the placement of this sign reflects really badly on your company. It is place on top of
@sustrans
national route 4. Please can you work with
@SRLTraffic
to move it?
Conflict with pedestrians should not be ‘designed in’ like this on Nelson Street.
Physical separation of pedestrians, cyclists and motorists must be the primary design principle of any new infrastructure built by
@BristolCouncil
- and any other council for that matter.
I took a ride on the 'new' Nelson Street - Quay Street Cycle Lane 20 January 2024 shortly after it re-opened to see if it's any safer. I made four passes along it, as it was cold, and quiet, so I edited the sections together to show how cyclists might encounter it on a busier day
I urge
#GPC23
to support motion E05 to fund HS2 and Northern Powerhouse Rail.
I used to be very against HS2, but we need to work with the reality we live in where it's now half built. The UK needs high speed rail and it doesn't make sense for Greens to say "yes but not that one".
Barcelona hasn’t given up on its hospitality industry like Bristol has.
There are still loads of areas like this where people have made a choice between parking and communicating. And communicating, eating, and drinking has won.
Whenever we get a briefing on Temple Island from

As opposition councillors, we have not seen the details of the deal done by Marvin’s Administration.

Literally thousands of people breaking the law, putting everyone’s lives at risk.
Where is the uproar?
None, because it is seen as a victimless crime.
Five deaths a day means it not.
Londoners told to reduce physical activity on Friday due to pollution This is the wrong message here; vehicles use should be limited by number plate like Paris did before it had its cycling revolution.
This is why I,
@HeatherMack4
and the residents of Shaldon Road would like this road to be 20 mph.
This driver is dangerous and will kill someone.
This was before 9 a.m. this morning.
Why,
@BristolDon
, will you not recommend a review of the 30 mph speed limit?
Turn the volume up!
One of
@bristolgreen
’s red lines for Electric Car Charging points is that they should be on the road, not pavement. This is what happens to valuable pavement space otherwise.
It seems that South Glos already has
@voitechnology
parking docks. They need to be taking up parking bays on the road not the pavement. But it’s a start.
I’m on a traffic-free portion of Princess Victoria Street, refuelling after a couple of laps of the downs. Respect must go to the perseverance of the

Hi
@BristolCouncil
can you ensure that no signage is installed on any cycle lane please? Also why is it showing out incorrect information? The 10th of August was not three days ago.

please remove it ASAP

I want to make some comments about this statistic that Bristol has 107,084 kilometres of mapped cycleways. Yes, that is a comma, not a decimal point. This is more than two half times round the world.
#Thread
It's official: Bristol is the UK's most cycle-friendly city 🥳
And, we're going further - our plans for the No.2 bus route, our Liveable Neighbourhoods programme, and our roll out of pedestrianisation schemes will build on the work we've already done to promote active travel.
Shame that this was not one of the incentives for the Bristol CAZ; you can borrow an e-bike but not get direct payment for one. Individuals can however get a £2000 grant for a less polluting vehicle. If you want to reduce both pollution and congestion e-bikes are the way forward.
“France will now pay you €4,000 (nearly US $4,000) to swap your old polluting car for a cleaner & more city-appropriate electric bicycle. That marks a major increase in the incentive… Pedal bicycles are also included in the generous incentive package…”
The subways on J3 are being pumped out right now.
Sorry for the disruption while this happening.
I'm aware that the Lawrence Hill Lido is back as well.
@BristolCouncil
will be looking at permanent solutions for all the pedestrian subways that flood.
I have met with
@BristolCouncil
about the teething issues with
@tier_mobility
e-scooters.
I'm expecting some more comms from
@WestofEnglandCA
addressing our concerns.
Clearly this is not a good enough state of affairs at 9am on a Thursday.
✅ Both Subways are now dry.
❎ The blocked drain causing this has not yet been fixed, so they must be drained after it rains.
Sorry for the inconvenience this has caused - we will be better at this!
My thoughts are with the family of the woman who died today.
Bristol needs a step change in infrastructure that matches the transport hierarchy, removing the danger of simply moving around for pedestrians and cyclists/
Where is
@BristolCouncil
’s
#VisionZero
policy?
We are sad to report a woman in her 30s has died following a collision in Hengrove, Bristol, this morning.
Our thoughts are with the family during this difficult time.
We are now appealing for witnesses to come forward with any information.
Bristol has fifteen. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen and fifteen. They fit into one tweet.
I'm proud to have been reselected by
@bristolgreen
to represent Lockleaze after three years of working for all the people in Lockleaze.
It would be my pleasure to continue improving housing, public transport, green spaces, and future developments in the ward.
When Ian Duncan Smith talks about sustainable growth, he means making money for his mates. When I and my colleagues in
@bristolgreen
talk about sustainable growth, we mean that we don’t want to destroy the planet and make Bristol a better place to live.
As I pull up into our street, there are two perfomance cars parked up the shade with their engines idling. I politely ask them to switch their engines off to stop polluting our street. I get told to fuck off. The Black Audi has 4ltr engine and kicks out 334g/km
