It is 10 years today since the tragic death of Lt Cdr Ian Molyneux, who lost his life whilst bravely trying to tackle a gunman onboard his submarine. In a memorial arranged by his son, Officer Cadet Molyneux, we paid our respects to his heroic father.

Tonight we welcomed our latest intake of Officer Cadets, who have made their first steps towards becoming Royal Navy Officers. The intake (known as '21-2') were addressed by our Senior Training Officers on the Parade Square.

Officer Cadets are on the river for their final assessed leadership exercise. This closes a chapter for them personally, but also ends decades of service for the well-known BRNC picket boats.
They will be replaced by Vahana workboats - a far more modern and versatile upgrade.
An inspirational man. So much so that our medical bursar's (the future Doctors of the Royal Navy) belong to 'Jolly' Division, named to keep his legacy alive within the branch and wider Service. He was also PMO here at Dartmouth in the 90's.

2018 Surgeon Capt. Rick Jolly RN died aged 71. Rick was the only servicemen to be decorated by the British & Argentine Governments for his medical care of soldiers from both sides. He campaigned for recognition of PTSD and co-founded South Atlantic Medal Assoc.

Officer Cadets are on the river learning how to operate the Vahana crafts which replaced the well-known BRNC picket boats in December.
The Vahana is a far more modern and versatile craft, plus reflects the modern navy these future officers will serve in.
