1/ Hard to believe that it is a year today since I had the privilege of taking over as 1SL. It has been an amazing year. Our Fleet has grown by nearly 120,000 tonnes. Recruiting is up by 20%. And #RoyalNavyTransformation has delivered some amazing things.

Type 45 has been a tougher story. Individual deployed ships have improved enormously. And the ships are hugely capable, which is why we are investing more to upgrade the propulsion to allow 4 from 6 ships to always be ready for operations by 2026. @RoyalNavy

It is 38 years to the day since the Royal Navy lost its first ship in its ultimately successful attempt to liberate the Falkland Islands. 20 men lost their lives when HMS Sheffield was struck by an Exocet missile protecting the Operation Corporate task force from air attack.

Last weekend @hmssevern was officially welcomed back into @RoyalNavy having decommissioned in 2017. It’s the first time a RN ship has been brought back to life since the Falklands conflict in 1982. Here she is in the Pool of London in her Western Approaches paint scheme.

Cdre Jim Perks joined the @RoyalNavy as a Writer, commissioning in 1988. Opting for submarines, he ultimately commanded HMS Sceptre. After a period as Teacher, he became Commander of the Submarine Flotilla and Commodore of the #SubmarineService and in 2020 received the CBE.
