In a major blow to the District, Monumental Sports and Virginia officials announced the Wizards and Caps are moving Alexandria, leaving D.C's Capital One Arena.
The team
@DDOTDC
shares in the Mayor's priority in bringing the Commanders back to DC.
Our team is hard at work to achieve this goal and today we want to share our first rendering of the future transportation infrastructure around the RFK site:
DC's new Deputy Mayor of Planning & Economic Development puts housing below the Commanders on her priority list:
"Her second priority, Albert said, is enticing the Washington Commanders back to D.C., and third is housing."
I heard some members of my team were concerned about "improper" use of a logo. I went ahead and took care of it for them.
Here at DDOT, I am involved at all levels. Whether it is fixing logos or ensuring Maryland drivers can speed through our streets more easily. I am on it.
This account is not and does not represent the District Department of Transportation in any shape or form. This account is fake and is not affiliated with DDOT and our logo should not be portrayed in the profile. This account has been reported and asked for removal.
NEW UPDATE: Bus lane enforcement is now indefinitely delayed until
@DDOTDC
staff can personally flag down drivers and offer them an apology, free coffee, and educational materials to increase their awareness of bright red lanes with the words "BUS LANE" in them.
NEW:
@DDOTDC
says it will start issuing automated $100 fines to drivers who are parked or stopped in a bus zone November 15. A “bus zone” is more or less the area around a bus stop. In January, $100 fines start for drivers traveling in a bus lane.

@nbcwashington
Thank you for flagging this, I am looking into it Councilmember
@trayonwhite
DDOT is so big that unfortunately sometimes rogue staff mistakenly worry about things like traffic safety or bus riders when designing our roads. Don’t worry, we will correct their mistakes!
@DC_Chander
@ddot
is destroying the fabric of DC streets . Everything is moving to one lane, and we are on our 4th Director in 7 years. It’s terrible .
🚨For Immediate Release🚨:

and Mayor Bowser announce new 40x24 Protected Bike Lane Initiative and the hiring of Nicholas "Nick" DelleDonne as DC's new "Bike Lane Czar."

I wholeheartedly understand Councilmember and I am working tirelessly to change
@DDOTDC
.
Regarding MLK Ave, we received your personal design suggestion from your team and are working to divert money from the bike lane budget to make it happen. Call my office and we can discuss.
@DDOTDCDirector
I will believe it when I see. We just had a whole debate over MLK ave being horrible condition yet again going into another street.
@DDOTDC
has an agenda with no real community input going full steam ahead without listening to those in the communities we serve.
🚨For Immediate Release🚨: Today
@DDOTDC
is announcing a $2.5 billion grant application and improved designs for the project formerly known as the K Street Transitway.

With an additional 140 lanes and 100,000 spot parking garages at the low low cost of $20 billion, we are sure visitors to the stadium will no longer deal with the hectic traffic they are used to at FedEx field.
Following the example of my DHS colleague
@ZLauraJeanne
, I am sharing the following statement I sent to the Council about the delay in the Conn. Ave street safety project.
As I said in the email, the decision to delay was mine alone, and definitely definitely not the Mayor’s.
The team
@DDOTDC
agrees with you and every day we work to make commuting work for drivers! That is why out of 4,346 lane miles of roads - we are only giving bus lanes and bike lanes 0.8% of them.
DDOT has drivers back!
@saulehforanc
There are not too many lanes on Conn Ave. There is parking on each side & 2 lanes in each direction for drivers. Why are accidents weaponized for bike& bus lanes? DC needs to make commuting work for all of its residents, not just those who ride bikes & use public transportation.
@DDOTDCDirector
@DDOTDC
It's so unfair that we're going to penalize poor car owners in DC solely to benefit the wealthy who ride on buses. Do I have the income breakdown right?
If you and are attending this meeting in Kingman Park tonight, please ask the Mayor about the transportation plan the team
@DDOTDC
put together!
We anticipate no added traffic on local roads as the plan would require demolishing the neighborhood, including the local roads.
Tonight, 7pm: Friends of

is hosting an in-person meeting with Mayor Bowser at 320 21st St NE to discuss the future of the RFK Campus. Seats are limited, so pls arrive early.

. Where did we best "steer" it back to the motorist experience this year? Which project did we best "pump the brakes"?
Share below👇and we will poll to find a winner
FACT CHECK: These sites were not hacked! Due to budget constraints,
@DDOTDC
is actually running online Indonesian casino websites to make extra cash on the side to pay for the new RFK stadium.
Fun fact: It brought in more revenue than DC's sports betting last year.
I was reminded that
@DDOTDC
has lost control of several domains it used to share transportation safety proposals with the communities. Sadly, DDOT still links to these sites on their domains possibly sending DC gov computers and residents to harmful sites
I checked in with project manager Nick Delledonne and he said it’s actually looking like it will 2038 (sorry!). We spent the project budget on dropping a bucket of $100 dollar bills on Ted Leonsis’ mansion last night to try and save Capital One arena so it’s going to take longer.
It took ~2,500 days from Kennedy's "We Choose to Go to the Moon" speech to Apollo 11's moon landing.
It will take 3,300+ days from first Connecticut Ave safety study to completion of construction in late 2028 - now further delayed due to Mayor Bowser's DDOT.
DC deserves better.
“Our number one priority is the rapid implementation of the Mayor’s 40x24 projects, 40 miles of new protected bike lanes across the District by the end of 2024. We are starting with Connecticut Avenue, and by the end of 2024 the whole protected bike lane will be complete.”
“I previously was a mean and angry opponent of bike lanes, but after going to intensive anger management therapy and trying one of those Capital Bikeshare e-bikes, I saw the light." said DelleDonne
“There used to be a lot of silly stuff in the design like bus lanes and bike lanes, but who wants to waste money on that” said DDOT's Chief Highway Engineer Robert Moses IV. “Traffic engineering tells us that by adding more lanes, we will solve traffic once and for all"
The $6 billion Route. 1 expansion with 60 new lanes through residential areas to accommodate game traffic will pay for itself in "economic impact" from the stadium.
Reason given for two-tiered timing is the fines don't match. Fine, then to simplify + speed up Clear Lanes enforcement, I'm moving a bill Tuesday to set all fines at $100 (down from $200). We've invested in bus lanes & better service but it won't matter if the lanes are blocked.
After taking extensive feedback from downtown stakeholders, DDOT came up with this transformative proposal to support Mayor Muriel Bowser's initiative to
#BeDowntown
by making it a destination by improving the motorist experience.
The new project, re-named the "K Street Highway and Mega-Interchange" will feature eight lanes in each direction on K Street, 16 total, with six added elevated highway segments at the Mega-Interchange on the site formerly known as Farragut Square Park.
Czar DelleDonne's non-profit community groups the "DC Coalition on DDOT Bike Plans" and "Save Connecticut Avenue" will be folded into DDOT's community relations team to build further support for bike lane infrastructure across the District.

Great idea! I brought it back to the team and they think we can probably use the bike lane budget, so $5 billion total, to cover part of it.
We will have to work to close the additional funding gap but rest assured we are on it!
@alpert
This conveniently connects to the planned "Commanders highway", parking lot, and interchange at the RFK site. We anticipate it will only take an hour and fifteen minutes to get from the mega-interchange to the new RFK stadium.

Interestingly we've been told that is a possibility. Apparently Governor Youngkin is offering UMD a $4 billion incentive package to move the school to Virginia.
