My pt today lost their wife of 60 years 3y ago. I was busy, IV’s, new admissions, call bells, referrals. He asked me if I wanted to hear the story of how they met? I could literally hear the loneliness in his voice. I will ALWAYS have time for that story! His 😊 made my week!

Today was my first day shift as the nurse in charge! 😱14 hours, 2 transfers, 7 discharges, a dodgy printer, 2 #FluJabs and 7 admissions later, I left the ward with all my patients pink and perfused. In summary, a daunting yet successful day. 🎉 #DiaryofaNQN

Nursing, and I can not stress this enough, is 👏🏻 not 👏🏻 my 👏🏻 vocation 👏🏻 I choose to be a nurse. I trained to be a nurse. I continue professional development to remain being a nurse. Nursing takes, hard work, stamina, dedication and strong will. It’s a continuous challenge.

This message is not correct! Undertaking a degree in nursing was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do! It challenged me physically, mentally & in ways I can’t even describe. The right & best decision, but it was not a failures choice- it’s a choice for the strong.

Yesterday I had 15 patients in my care...Couldn’t sleep last night thinking about all the things I might have missed. Safe staffing is a real crisis, it’s happening to all of us, it’s up to us to change it! All I want is to be able to go to work & be a good nurse to my patients.

Let’s just be clear, just because there is a 40,000 nurse shortage, doesn’t mean becoming a nurse is easy now, it doesn’t mean anyone can do! It’s something you have inside you, a problem solver, a multitasker, a willingness to build on change, it takes courage to be a nurse.

Just had a little cry at a sad, but beautiful memory of a pt in my care. The palliative pt loved Mary Poppins, so I got my tablet and set it up in his side room. His wife and granddaughter wanted to stay the night, so in his last hours he heard the film while with his family. 🤍

*In the shop today* ‘The nurses are probably sat at the desk doing nothing’. In the last 6 days I’ve worked 70 hours, I’ve done 125,000+ steps, I’ve answered numerous call bells for things big or small, always with a smile, an missed my break to hold your drying relatives hand.

I had a breakdown only a few weeks ago, now *for safety* I have to move out of my home, away from my family, leaving my husband behind for who knows how long and I honestly didn’t think this week could get any harder...but apparently it can. Today my husband was made redundant.

Overheard a very emotional conversation between 2 newly registered staff on the bus this evening. Both saying “have I made a mistake?”. Obviously I approached them to reach out, but this isn’t an isolated moment, this conversation is happening everywhere. #FairPayForNursing

What wrong with nursing? WE DONT SUPPORT EACH OTHER PROPERLY! We need to blame less, understand everyone is working tirelessly, one pointless comment with a negative and unsympathetic attitude could be the difference between a nurse staying or leaving our profession.

Every day we go to work there is short staffing, this means that patient care is at risk. 83% of shifts are understaffed, and around 1 in 8 nursing posts are vacant in England alone. Last year, 25,000 nursing professionals left the NMC register. #RCNStrike #FairPayforNursing

Feeling really nervous about my first shift in a new area tomorrow morning, but as my dad always says, it’s not nerves I’m feeling it’s excitement! Excitement of the unknown...so I guess, in fact, I’m excited about my first shift in AMU tomorrow! 😝

I’m an Aunty! 🥰 My little brother and sister-in-law brought my wonderful little nephew into the world on the 6th April 22:31pm weighing 8lbs 4ozs, via c section. Charlie Elliott Hall, I will teach you to be a pirate and a rascal! Love all 3 of you endlessly! #NewBorn

Today is my 10th @NHSEngland anniversary 🌟 from HCSW to Senior Specialist Nurse. I have had lots of wonderful experiences, challenging periods and many life lessons in my array of jobs and development in the last decade. Here’s to the many adventures still to come! #NHS

Is it generally consensus that being a Jack of all trades is a bad thing? I pride myself on being the “Del Boy of Nursing” I love how open my experiences are…that’s what works for me to remain in the profession, for others it will be different. That should be ok. #RCN22

Enough is enough @GOVUK @theRCN has announced that strike will run round-the-clock from the morning of Wednesday 1 March to the morning of Friday 3 March. With NO wide-ranging derogations! Surely @RishiSunak & @SteveBarclay will see reason before this & meet to discuss pay?
