I came across an old article.
A relative of a Welsh woman who died in 1966 was launching a campaign, ultimately hoping more people in Wales would know her name.
Don't think I've many Welsh followers but I would like people in Ireland to know her name. /1
Ireland has conducted close to 5,000 tests (4,852) for coronavirus in the last 7 days. On a per capita basis, that's 7x more than USA and 6x more than UK conducted in same period.
That is a truly outstanding effort from everyone involved, particularly Irish doctors and nurses.
This is Leo Ralph Villamayor from the Philippines, an agency nurse.
On November 23rd he was on the way to his graduation in the Gresham Hotel when the stabbing happened.
Leo quickly raced to the little girl and did CPR for minutes until the ambulance arrived on scene.
Hero ❤️
The 2 British men who are leading the rescue operation are John Volanthen and Rick Stanton. They are universally regarded as the best cave divers in the world.
They were the ones who found the boys & are now leading the rescue mission.
HEROES.
#ThaiCaveRescue
A certain Irish woman is running around spreading hatred towards non-white immigrants.
One thing I'm guilty of is not doing enough to counter messages of hate with ones of positivity.
So here's a few stories of people who show the very best of Ireland:
Some people have told me to lighten up. That sure Maggie kissed up to Donald with nice articles because she was relying on the inside access he gave to her.
Fine.
That's not journalism though. If that's the job she wanted, she could have applied for Sarah Sanders job.
Poland has waived negative PCR test requirements for all Ukrainians crossing the border.
They will also provide food and medical attention at 8 specific reception points.
Well done.
Of course you could disregard the fact that Maggie Haberman wrote 94 articles on Hillary's emails & Benghazi (combined) and ZERO on Trump's longstanding connections to mafia/mob/Felix Sater/racism.
That in itself might be a coincidence.
The carnage on the streets of Dublin last night wasn't spontaneous.
It was the result of a campaign of misinformation, disinformation, lies and incitement to hatred.
I'll lay out a detailed chronology of how the far-right orchestrated it, as the day unfolded yesterday. /1
Ireland's coronavirus response has been exceptional so far.
Mortality rate: 0.57%
Testing rate: 2nd highest in EU
Curve: 40.1% under projection
Median age postive test: 45 years old
You might consider ignoring Professor Conor McGregor and Dr. Paddy Cosgrave, MD in Eedgitry.
Stating it's "impossible to independently verify" someone's net worth and then writing an article emphatically stating their net worth to be 3x higher than Forbes estimates, based on one anonymous source in the Trump Organization..
That isn't journalism. That is free PR work.
Writing a combined 94 articles on Hillary's emails & Benghazi whilst writing a princely ZERO on a whole range of Trump scandals from his past...
That isn't balanced journalism. It isn't even PR work at that point.
It is glorified campaigning by stealth.
Some interesting weaponizing of Ireland's death rate going on by very ignorant people.
"Ireland have the 9th highest death rate per capita".
Do we now.
Treating patients in tents in Italy. People on the floor dying in Spanish hospitals. Mass graves being dug in NY.
42 days into this in Ireland, we've averaged 7 dead a day while maintaining ICU capacity & national spirit and people are making out it's a disaster.
Grow up.
Millions of us fled to America in search of a better life in the 1800's.
The day we reject those fleeing here in search of *their* better life will be the day Irish culture dies.
Irishness is not a skin colour.
Writing an article asserting someone is not a racist because he once dated a biracial woman and once had some black friends, while ignoring mountains of evidence of racism...
That isn't journalism. That is free PR work.
This thread is not an invitation to inform me of your racist beliefs.
And to every immigrant out there struggling or working hard in low-paid jobs, your contribution is just as valued as the people I've highlighted in this thread.
And you're just as welcome.
Love not hate 💚
"42% of murders of women in Ireland is done by the 9% that are migrant men" is a made-up statistic.
It's spread to dehumanise immigrants as 'savages'.
I've compiled real stats on murders of women in Ireland, including prior criminal records, to counter this hatred and lies. /1
(I forgot I am supposed to plug something when a thread gets popular so here goes)
I am not American and I am still awake here at 5:37am with your President threatening to destroy Iran.
So I am plugging this:
Please vote in November.
Thank you.
What we have here are early signs of a pattern.
Donald Trump does or says something which invites criticism and condemnation.
Maggie Haberman is then granted a direct interview or publishes a favorable Trump piece.
Let's see how the pattern continued.
October 6th, 2016 the Access Hollywood tapes emerge. Maggie Haberman would write TWO articles related to this episode. (She wrote FIFTY THREE on Hillary's emails).
This piece portrayed Trump in a sympathetic light:
Is Maggie Haberman a shill for Donald Trump? Has she carried water for him?
The answer depends on your perspective but she definitely relies on access to Trump World.
What I do know is when Donald is in trouble he runs to Maggie to get his side of the story out.
Below is a 2016 photo of Muslims who broke their Ramadan fast to break bread with the Irish LGBT community, in a show of solidarity after the horrendous attack at the Pulse Nightclub in Orlando.
Dr. Holohan wasn't on holiday, he was caring for his terminally ill wife.
Dr. Glynn wasn't a substitute teacher, he diligently oversaw Ireland achieving one of the lowest case and mortality rates in Europe for 13 consecutive weeks.
Knock if off already.
For a guy who criticizes the Fake News media so much, it's interesting he has given Maggie over 20 on record exclusive interviews over the last 7 years.
I have little doubt "John Barron" was one of her many anonymous sources over the years.
This bold claim of Trump's wealth, relying on anonymous sources in Trump World, came mere weeks after Haberman herself claimed it was impossible to independently verify his net worth.
Impossible to independently verify it yet runs an article stating his net worth is $7 billion?
2011: Birtherism & Maggie runs PR piece stating how rich he is.
2016: Access Hollywood & Maggie runs a sympathy piece.
2017: Obamacare Repeal fail and Donald calls Maggie to give a world exclusive interview.
2017: Charlottesville "both sides" & Maggie runs "not racist" piece.
Deborah Somorin came to Ireland as a 10-year-old, by 13 she became homeless, by 14 she was pregnant.
Now a successful working mother (accountant with PWC), she has created the charity 'Empower the Family' to support single mothers and also fundraises for Homeless Charities.
Here's Boidu Sayeh, who left war-torn Liberia when he was young, shortly after his mother's death, and came to Ireland.
Soccer mad as a small child, he initially thought Gaelic Football was "a bit mental", but he stuck at it and reached Senior County level.
Pictured center below is Dr. Atif Awan, Consultant Nephrologist, at a 10th anniversary gathering of Temple Street Children's Hospital kidney transplant program.
All the children pictured at this event are recipients of kidney transplants performed by Dr. Awan and his team.
Pictured below is Gina Akpe-Moses after winning 100 meter gold at the European Junior Championships in 2017.
She came to Ireland as a toddler from Nigeria and says "I'll never understand racism. The same blood flows through our veins, the same bones, everything."
This is Lieutenant-Colonel Shahzad Ahmad. He's served in the Irish Army since 2001, as Brigade Medical Officer, including peacekeeping missions in Kosovo and Eritrea.
He says "if you are a simple, practising Muslim, your contribution to the Irish people can be tremendous".
Below right is Mansoreh Abolhassani, a single mother in her 40's who took up Gaelic Football while studying at Queens University, Belfast.
(What a woman.)
She quickly fell in love with GAA and says she gained tremendous self-confidence from her teammates accepting her.
To the racists tweeting me saying Gina Akpe-Moses - who has lived here 95% of her life - isn't Irish because she posed with the flag reversed moments after winning her historic Gold Medal...
... here is Conor McGregor moments after winning UFC gold.
I thought it might be nice timing to share my all-time favourite Christmas story.
This is a Christmas story very loosely in the same fashion 'Die Hard' is a 'Christmas film', as in it took place near Christmas time 😂
It's the story of the Gottröra Miracle.
Nobody died ⬇️
It is a common and infuriating misconception that the NYT and WaPo were running interference for Hillary.
The evidence actually shows the key players in both NYT and WaPo were actively undermining her campaign by relentlessly pursuing her foundation/emails/Benghazi...
... Maggie Haberman published a piece which can be best summarised as "Donald Trump is not a racist as he once dated a black girl and has black acquaintances".
There was one hour between the reporting of the first deaths in Ireland, Belgium and Sweden on March 11th. As things stand:
Belgium 5,453 dead
Sweden 1,511 dead
Ireland 571 dead.
There are many reasons for the disparity but our early testing response is probably the biggest.
Boris implements a lockdown, now Irish people want one.
We've spent the last 3 weeks copying S. Korea's homework (no lockdown in S. Korea - test, trace, isolate), and we've done it brilliantly.
Now you all want to copy Boris fucking Johnson?
Not only do you have just as many verbal pauses as that 17-year-old kid, unlike you she actually made a good point.
In other news, fuck yourself - because it's people like you making fun of conscientious kids that makes them think twice about risking giving an opinion.
This is a photo of Michelle Isabelle Sherman (23) who was shot dead in her sleep by her husband on November 9th, 1989.
Her husband also shot dead her baby, Josh, who was 4 months old.
The judge sentenced the husband to an 'admonishment', a verbal warning not to do it again.
Pictured left is Senior Staff Nurse, Kavitha Tauro, at the 2018 annual Beaumount Hospital "Honour Your Heroes" awards.
She was nominated for her hard work by Sheila Hanevy, pictured right, for her ongoing care in Sheila's dialysis treatment.
Dr. Holohan's return on Monday will mean Dr. Ronan Glynn was CMO for 93 days and chaired NPHET for 94 days, given his 1st meeting was the evening of July 2nd.
In that time he has done a thoroughly phenomenal job, under utmost pressure, in guiding us into the winter.
The piece closes on Donald Trump emerging like a rock star.
Remember - this was days after Donald Trump was caught on tape bragging about sexual abuse.
And this was the Haberman treatment.
The year is 2011. In February, Maggie Haberman pens an article in Politico "The Donald reins in Roger Stone", quoting from an interview with Donald himself who phoned Maggie. The article was ostensibly floating a Presidential bid.
Ignoring the anti-immigration shite, this is a wonderful exhibit of the cognitive dissonance of the Irish far-right.
They think leaving front doors unlocked was a sign of a previously safer Ireland.
Let me show you what leaving your front door unlocked in Ireland led to. /1
I have absolutely nothing against Maggie Haberman personally. I wish all human beings health and happiness (except Nazi's and people who lock children in cages).
I just wanted to shine a light on the reality of access journalism to the readers of her pieces.
...whilst simultaneously ignoring glaring issues with the Trump foundation/Russia connections/mafia connections/sexual abuse allegations.
It's actually frightening (and impressive) how a lot of journalists with long connections to Trump ended up being so influential.
Irish Twitter is some place.
A lot of people are moaning about the testing situation here. The Director of UCD's National Virus Reference Laboratory has said we're up to 2,000 tests daily.
That puts us bang at Germany & South Korea levels per capita i.e. World Leading!
We now know that these claims (little debt) were preposterous but they were preposterous at the time if we trust Forbes over Haberman's anonymous sources within Team Trump. (Forbes estimated his net worth at a shade over $2 billion & leveraged.)
This tweet, from a racist, encapsulates the distorted sense of Irish nationalism that fueled awful events yesterday.
Cited deaths of Ashling, Michael and Aidan as examples of foreign savagery and failed diversity.
Let's look at names he didn't mention and why they matter. /1
The saddest by-product of the pandemic is how many people rationalize death tolls by age.
The "83 was a good innings" logic to diminish the value of life in old age.
Ok lets take a look at 83.
When Ivanka came under heavy fire in 2017, Maggie wrote a hugely sympathetic piece relying on anonymous sources to paint a very rosy picture.
"Pillars of the West Wing"
21-year-old Sinead Kelly was killed in Dublin in early hours of Monday, June 22nd, 1998.
At the time media reported she was a "junkie" and "hooker"; while sporadic mentions in the last decade focus solely on prostitution.
I went through archives, to try tell a fuller story. /1
Elizabeth Clarke (23) got married to James Kerley (38) in Co. Louth on January 29th, 1929.
I looked for recent articles remembering her and couldn't find any, so figured I'll write something myself.
The story is heartbreaking and shameful.
The thread is for Elizabeth. /1
There were 2 announcements today that highlight just how incredible the Medical Scientist community in Ireland have been performing.
-Michael Gove announced the UK has hit 10,000 tests per day.
-Paul Reid announced Ireland has hit 5,000 tests per day.
This is superhero stuff.
The article cites "Sources with knowledge of Trump's financial holdings" to make the dubious claim that Trump has "very little debt" and great cash flow while continuing to float a Presidential campaign bid.
There's been many sad disappearances of women in Ireland.
One has been forgotten.
A devoted mother, who gardaí said "disappeared off the face of the Earth", she was later subjected to shameful character attacks by the Irish Independent.
The disappearance of Evelyn Bohan. /1
A week later with Trump continuing to take heavy fire over his birtherism and questions about his finances, this gem appears in Politico by Maggie Haberman.
"Trump: The $7 Billion dollar man".
This is where it takes some dark turns. Bad as it was to do Trump's PR for him over Access Hollywood and Birtherism, Maggie went above and beyond the call of duty for Donald post Charlottesville.
While the rest of the world was condemning his "both sides" rhetoric.....
I'd normally ignore Gemma O'Doherty's latest conspiracy theory: that "no children were stabbed in Dublin."
However she is targeting this amazing Filipino nurse, who provided CPR to the little girl.
I know how quickly Gemma's lies spread.
I'll try counter it with the truth. /1

"It's actually not about the north of Ireland. Zombie is about the death of a child, a 3-year-old boy. Happens to be north of Ireland situation but could have been (babies) in Bosnia. It's not politics. It's heart. Love. Leave the kids alone."
-Dolores O'Riordan, September, 1994
The copy paints a sympathetic picture of "poor Donald" isolated and not in the best of spirits. It references a personal phone call Donald made to Maggie without her admitting he made it.
The first article continues to float a Presidential bid by Trump. It offers information that Trump personally called Kellyanne Conway, who helped Trump connect to evangelicals. It was at this time that Trump reversed his position on abortion.
Hey
@dmartosko
Big Man mocking a 17-year-old kid for her verbal pauses. Here's 45 seconds of you talking in 2015 about Hillary's emails (yawn), I'm going to transcribe some of it verbatim below.
Today is the 41st anniversary of British Airways Flight 009 and Captain Eric Moody's legendary understatement in his address to passengers.
"Ladies and gentleman. This is your captain speaking. We have a small problem. All four engines have stopped."
It's a great story. /1
Ha! Some brave Russian surgeon (Alexander Vanyukov) was asked if the Russian death count is accurate and he said "no. We’ll find out the real numbers in about 30 years on HBO”
That's a level of balls I will never possess.
Things in your control:
-Hand washing
-Mask
-Cough into elbow
-Avoid large gatherings
-Open windows
-Exercise
-Having fun
Things not in your control:
-What Level we are at.
-When a vaccine will arrive.
-When all of this will be over.
Focus on that 1st set of things.
The point of this thread (which is solely my opinion) was to highlight the pitfalls of access journalism (not to attack Maggie as a human being). Ultimately if her employers are ok with access journalism, all we can do as readers is highlight it when we think we see it. /end.
There are a lot of people going around saying Quaden Bayles, the little boy with dwarfism, is actually 18-years-old and a scammer.
He is 9-years-old. He was born on December 13th, 2010.
Like any proud mother, she took lots of photos.
Stop being dicks.
An end product of my research on femicide.
I tried to document all violent deaths of women and girls, then mapped the location of their deaths and the sentences given to their killers.
This thread is for 574 women and girls killed in the 1922 - 2022 century in Ireland.
Racist interviewer did his best to avoid saying "white people" and chose to contend "Irish people are a minority in Letterkenny."
Lovely young man being interviewed 💯 correct to doubt that baloney.
I'll lay out demography of Letterkenny at 2022 Census in this short thread.
Fast forward to March 2011.
Donald Trump begins publicly questioning if Obama was born in America. While Trump faces pushback over the controversy (NYT ran an article "Donald Trump is getting weirder"), weeks later 2 articles by Maggie Haberman appear in Politico.
Lastly I have been told to mind my own business because I am not American and what's it to do with me anyway.
I love America. Some of the best traveling experiences I've had were in that great country, met lots of amazing people.
So that's a no to minding my own business :)
What bigots mean is they won't tolerate children stabbed if it's a foreigner with the knife.
Liam Hawe (13), Brooklyn Colbert (11), Niall Hawe (11), Ryan Hawe (6), Ciaran Malone (4), Reece Hines (3), Amy Hines (5mths), Leilah Hickey (3mths) all stabbed to death by Irish adults.
Irish far-right spent all day yesterday claiming the Sydney attacker was a Muslim.
Many of them spent all morning deleting those posts but deleting posts won't undo the incitement to hatred.
They're going to get decent people hurt with their increasingly extremist rhetoric. /1
Many people who were slating NPHET as clueless idiots are now slating Govt for not listening to NPHET.
These people would argue with themselves in an empty room.
The reality is Ireland's 141.55 deaths per million is most resembling the truth.
Most countries can't say the same.
But if you read all of this and still want to throw around "9th highest death rate" as a weapon, just know you're the bigger weapon for misleading people.
The dehumanising language and brazen racism in this tweet isn't surprising but it remains very dispiriting.
Underpinning all of this hatred is, as ever, ignorance.
Not to mention an unwillingness to even listen to what the man has to say.
A thread on Mr. Bolaji Adeyanju. /1
There is no way you can watch these people speak at daily briefings and think anything other than they are thoroughly decent human beings doing their best for us all.
I'm not doing this ever again as it was a bigger ordeal than the Leaving Cert but here's a comprehensive overview of how August went and how things are looking in Ireland.
I blocked 319 people who sent me abusive messages in the last 18 hours.
Go direct that anger at someone else, I didn't cause the pandemic and have only ever tried to keep people informed and encouraged.
In our geographical region, Ireland per capita had:
-fewest deaths
-fewest deaths in youngest demographics
-fewest nursing home deaths
-lowest Case Fatality Rate in healthcare workers
-objectively world class testing
There's no way to argue it was a failure for our region.
Joe Rogan:
Has been labeled a "far-right influencer" and "gateway to the alt-right". Let's have a look at these claims and see what the case against him looks like in a bit more detail. /1
The first question from Maggie in this interview was about...
Neil Gorsuch.
That might give you an idea of what you're dealing with here when she chose to lead with the one thing Trump was guaranteed to get a W after repeated L's (inauguration debacle, Muslim Ban etc)
Notes (cont):
I have been accused of sexism for my thread.
I would hope fair minded people will see my opinion is based on her work and not on her gender. (/3)
You were partying in the south of France and came directly home to a 60 person picnic without quarantining for 14 days and plastered all of it on Instagram to try get Sergio Ramos to have a kickabout.
"No one is above this" might include you.
Is it too much to hope for responsibility and consistency from our leaders? We expect the men and women in government to be our role models. If they can't abide by their own standards to beat the virus, then we need new people in charge. No one is above this.
"Ended up with some classified material in her email server, UH, separately, UMMM, UMM, [facial tick with eyes x2], when she was no longer Secretary of State, umm, she said I gotta get this thing out of my house....."
Just to add a couple of receipts in case anyone actually thinks Donald viewed Maggie as an adversary/antagonist:
July 22nd, 2016: Trump gives Maggie a sit-down interview at the Republican Convention to outline his foreign policy agenda.
