After a decade+ playing Commander, I've found that the single best trait you can bring to the table has nothing to do with what deck you're playing.
It's your attitude.
If you're fun to be around and make others feel good playing with you, then you're the perfect player.
"Should I allow take-backs in casual Commander when my opponent didn't correctly read something on board" YES A THOUSAND TIMES YES!
The game is ludicrously complex, there's thousands of new cards each year, there are FOUR boards to keep track of, yes you allow take-backs!
PSA for Xenagod players: you might have missed this new card, Bloodthirster.
Cast it and immediately hit opponent 1 for 12, opponent 2 for 24, and opponent 3 for 48.
It's very good.
The amount of DMs I get sending me kind words about being an openly gay face in the MTG sphere is both surprising and heartwarming. Gonna keep my profile extra gay forever for this reason 🏳️🌈
This common is currently $11. It's not Reserved List. Originally printed in 1999, only saw a single reprint in 14 years (duel deck in 2009).
It's a very good card. Please reprint thx
Three hundred Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky, Seven hundred for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone, Nine hundred for Mortal Men doomed to die
Don't be upset that people are selling Secret Lair Fetches for crazy prices. Be upset at WOTC for refusing to print fetches in a way that makes them more accessible and affordable. This is solely on WOTC, and they know exactly what they're doing.
Okay, Twitter, bring it on.
I stand by my belief that Drannith Magistrate is a fair and good card for Commander. If you go all-in on your commander, don't have any backup plan or a way to remove a 1/3 creature, then you got got.
It's good to have proactive answers to all-in Commander decks.
This is one of my favorite pieces of MTG art and it's a shame it gets so little love since it appears on a forgettable card.
The mood. The lighting. The colors. It makes me feel things.
On Elesh Norn: I think stax pieces stapled to beneficial effects is good actually, so it sees play. I think some light stax is GOOD for the format, if more people were exposed to it there wouldn't be so much outcry. Your entire deck shouldn't fold to a 5-drop with no protection.
Want to play an Equipment deck but don't want to empty your wallet buying $50 Sword of X and Y staples? Here's a thread about my powerful $35 Equipment deck using the new Nahiri! (1/5)
I get the argument for infinite mull to 7 houserule, aka "we want everyone to play Magic," and up until this point I used that houserule too in streams or recordings.
But honestly I think it promotes bad deckbuilding. Not consciously I don't think, but subconsciously.
Rarely do I mention my sexuality in my content creation since it's usually not relevant, but reading this video's comments section and DMs I'm glad this knowledge makes some folk happy and feel represented.
CEDH players be like yeah my deck is a turbo farm frosty flakes primary win con is reverse dab with a backup bazinga go check out my primer which is longer than my grad thesis
Hi
@maro254
, I wanted to reach out in regards to the question you asked here:
I think the outrage comes from people who want a basic, affordable versions of desirable cards. Alternate expensive blinged versions are great too, but why can't we have both?
Yet another reminder that Yasharn is fantastic and underrated soft stax piece that should see more play: it shuts down treasures, fetches, aristocrats, and more, while also providing card advantage with its ETB. Great budget hateboar under $1.
One variant of Commander that I'd love to explore more is a "No Tutors" variant: all cards that search libraries aren't allowed. No Demonic Tutors but also no fetchlands.
Or make an exception for land searching but imo I'd rather try it first without.
"All Commander decks are full of auto-includes, the ramp is all the same" idk, nothing wrong w/ generic staples but if you can't fathom how to diversify your ramp with unique synergy / thematic choices w/ the billions of cards in 2024 I think that's a you issue not a format issue
I enjoy the W40K decks and I'm happy for all the W40K fans, but the lack of in-universe versions of these cards is worrisome. I don't like the idea of powerful / desirable W40K cards that have a single version and are incredibly difficult to reprint.
"If we allowed proxies then everyone would play super powered EDH decks! Only the rich people who can afford such cards deserve the power to build such decks."
Seeing a lot of these "pay to win" arguments and they're all 100% trash.
It's funny how in recent years the dnd subreddit has evolved into simply wishing 5E had a whole bunch of changes without realizing that 4E was literally everything they are wishing for, and it was a colossal failure.
Coming from a 4E fan: WOTC ain't doing that again
Spoilers for Crimson Vow story:
Olivia and Edgar are getting married.
The priest (Thalia) says the line, "Speak now or forever hold your peace."
Suddenly!
BAH GAWD IT'S EMRAKUL! SHE'S OUT OF THE MOON AND SHE'S GOT A STEEL CHAIR!
What I personally desire is less new cards and more pure reprint sets. I like having the price of basic game pieces be as low as possible so players can play, while premium versions can be as high as possible so whales can whale. I've been saying this for years.
"Hey Tomer your article says the deck is $50 why is it listed as $200?"
Because I wrote the article in 2016 and prices change over time. I always make sure that the price is accurate when published but I don't touch it afterwards.
Oooh I have another!
Poison being at 10 is correct in Commander. "But life totals double!" yeah but eah player is contributing to lifeloss. Almost always it's 1 Poison player trying to poison by themselves. Imagine you had to do all 40 damage to each opponent by yourself to win.
What are your favorite cards in Magic that DON'T have a sweet version (foil/alt art/etc) you like? Setting aside reserved list. Could either be a card which has never gotten a sweet version, or just one you think could be upgraded. Hit me up!
#wotcstaff
I'm shocked that we still don't have the Ur-Dragon equivalent for Angel Tribal: 5C, some godlike looking Angel that looks like the end boss of a JRPG and does something that sounds busted but is actually fine.
They're one of the most popular tribes and show up in all colors. EZ
My called shot for New Capenna is that the femme fatale hiring a private eye will be revealed to be Sheoldred.
"She walked through my door like a tigress stalking a gazelle -- onyx horns and legs for hours."
Spoiler: both precons are really good!
THAT SAID
At this point any Azorius precon that doesn't reprint Talisman of Progress gets an F in the ramp department. It's been over a decade, you have to be intentionally missing at this point. Come on now.
Here's a quick thread why Volrath is the coolest underrated commander that can still hang with the big boys despite being 23 years old even on a low budget!
He's a deadly Voltron commander: all you need to do is discard Draco or Shadow for lethal 21 commander damage! (1/5)
Commander precons are great ways to support and expand narrow archetypes that can't be easily return in other products.
I would love to see an Energy precon and an Arcane precon for example.
So WOTC has acknowledged that they pushed certain commanders too far (e.g. Korvold) and that White needs help in Commander. That's good.
Can we now talk about how fast mana isn't healthy for the format, or are we not there yet? WOTC is going ham with it and it's worrisome.
It's a bummer that CMDR players have such an irrational reaction to anything poison (similar to mill). The Abzan Poison precon actually explores new territory in the format and excites me, but even if it was the weakest precon ever I still would hesitate to recommend it to ppl.
You can like or dislike any of WOTC's decisions. What I absolutely will not tolerate, however, is people shaming and belittling other players for playing something they enjoy.
This game is a vehicle for us to sit down together and enjoy each other's company. Don't forget that.
Me: I am Budget Commander. I build budget decks.
Also Me: So yeah I'll buy 24 of these basic Swamps and a Mystical Archive Demonic Tutor; my current Demonic Tutor is too poor.
I love that Baldur's Gate has a lower power level than the previous set. There's still plenty of sweet cards but thank god we didn't get another Jeweled Lotus.
We get a billion new cards each year and it keeps going up. If each set was introducing format staples we'd be Yugioh
Hello yes I would like to submit a formal complaint: why is this not a changeling???
It's even from Littjara, the home of changelings! It's supposed to be a changeling whyyyy is it an illusion😭
