Guy Garvey gives us all hope because he's a middle aged fat bloke who likes a drink and yet he's still the most charming person in the world. Elbow are diamonds.

I voted for a bit of stability and to get a measured voice into the leadership position. I was a big Corbyn fan, but thought that his "campaigning style" made Labour feel like a protest party instead of a formal opposition. But I now think we have the opposite problem.
Happy to announce that I am now a Senior Reporter at
@essexlive
! Two days off from my two year anniversary at the site as well! The big winner is my Twitter bio, which now has an extra four characters to play with. Big opportunity there.
After four years and six months, I have logged off for the final time as a Reach plc employee. That includes two years as an EssexLive reporter, a year as a content editor across the south east and my recent stint as Content Lead for BedfordshireLive, SuffolkLive and NorfolkLive.

After taking a few days to process the news, I'm sad to announce that as part of Reach plc's recent round of cuts, my entire team is being made redundant.
🚨 SOME PERSONAL NEWS 🚨
Damn it feels good to use those emojis.
Sad to announce that my time as an EssexLive reporter is coming to an end. In my two years reporting there, I've worked with brilliant people, heard amazing stories and simply had a cracking time. I will miss it.
These boys, turning up to work, not getting paid, and still winning games with grit, passion and respect for the fans.
They should be remembered amongst the best Southend teams of all time.
@RobDenBleyker
the tories have realised they might be toast if they keep him as leader so a secret vote will be held between MPs on whether to get rid of him. Normally the fact that the party has lost confidence in their leader is enough to get rid of one - but it's johnson so who knows
I've have the pleasure to announce that I will start my life as a journalist at Essex Live! I'm so lucky that I've managed to get a job before I graduate and I'm so thankful to all those who have helped me over the past few years! I'M VERY VERY EXCITED!
Me and Jen moved into our London flat this week. 9 months since the offer went in, and we can finally step inside. Today the bed and wardrobes got finished, and after a few gas hiccups, the flat is now nice and warm. Tomorrow, we set up our telly and I build a desk.
@OwenJones84
It was always going to be impossible to launch a quasi manifesto during a pandemic, but I wish there was some more votes against the government however fruitless they may be. I hope that after Covid's impact eases in the UK, we'll start to see more political identity in the Party
@thetomska
I've enjoyed "may or may not be notable" status. Now I feel like I've been shunted into a weird group I didn't want to be part of. It's burning me.
This team. After everything this week. The club nearly dying. The looming disaster. The endless torment. The persistent embargo. The dread. The anger. But you can't stop them. They are something special. God love em.
The cladding crisis is one of the most worrying and present issues in the country today, and the recent funding announcement from the government doesn't solve every problem. Some residents inside low-level, high-density housing are falling through the cracks.
I booked a table for me and Jen to go on a date tonight.
Dinner with cocktails etc.
Turned up and apparently it was pub quiz night.
Panicked thinking I mucked up.
Only bloody won a free drink on a bonus question, finished second and won a bottle of wine.
Nailed it.
We have work experience slots where aspiring journos get to work with us, have the opportunity to visit the head London office, pitch ideas and get sole published bylines.
The only price you'll have to pay is to listen to my waffle.
No aspiring journalist should need to fork out for this. Contact your local paper, ask for work ex, READ the paper/site, send in a few story ideas. You’ll get a slot somewhere and it’ll be far more useful experience than this.
With my final Regional Content Editor shift over, I've now officially started my job at HertsLive!
I look forward to work we're going to do in 2022 and beyond, and urge everyone to follow

And for the inevitable second tweet, I am pleased to announce that I will soon start my role as Regional Content Editor for Reach's titles in the South East!
In Reach's South East Awards 2021, the main image in this article just came in second place for Photo Of The Year. This is what journalism is all about.
Today has been a really fulfilling week for me as a journalist.
I got my first front page splash, about 8 stories into the main newspaper at our group, got to write my first true bit of opinion journalism and to interview the Chief Superintendent of Essex Police.
I've just finished my last shift on
@HertsMercury
! It's been a wonderful time over the past 10 months or so, and the team is in a great place to move forward. I'll still be staying close, but for now it's time to say goodbye to yellow and hello to red!
A year ago today, I started work at Essex Live. I've learned a hell of a lot, and I'm thankfully that I've been able to find my feet in such an experimental, successful and enthusiastic newsroom. Here's to Year 2!

Some people like physical products to enhance their listening experience, but don't want to deal with vinyl, nostalgia factor and there's already CDs for Gizz's entire pre-2022 discography. It's not all about sound :)
Hey
@tapntinchatham
, we've been through a lot the past three years. However, uni is ending and tonight, I take my last ever trip through the green door. I just want to say thank you, and wish me luck.
It was confirmed I graduated univeristy with a 2:1 today. That's pretty great. I also spent an afternoon writing about Basildon for my job. And that's AWESOME.
Wow so
@Defunctland
's double episode on Disneyland Paris and Space Mountain is the perfect YouTube video essay. Entertaining, following a great narrative and incredibly informative. Bravo.
Just binged these during the end of my shift and couldn't recommend them more. What a brilliant way to show the wacky world of broadcast journalism and how it's different either side of the pond. Loved it.
To my delight,
@BBCSounds
has brought back what remains the most unusual thing I've made for the BBC. This 2019 podcast is what happened when a giant of US TV news messaged me out of the blue. And I replied. I'd love to hear what you make of it.
Been a tough week.
My brain really hasn't been working properly in a myriad of different ways, and my anxiety has been through the roof.
I am giving off these vibes HARD.
But like everything, I know it will pass. And I will reply to this tweet when I feel better to prove that.
So far 145,000 people have seen my sunburnt face try and set the scene in Clacton today where a 40 foot whale washed up on the shore. It was incredibly windy and I'd just driven 50 miles. Check me out!
✨Some personal news✨
From Feb 1st, I’ll be joining the
@RealDealsEU
editorial team as their junior reporter!
Super grateful & honoured that they’ve welcomed me during the current climate, I can’t wait to start!
Onwards & upwards with the next chapter! 🌟
So nice to spend today in Watford with Team
@HertsMercury
and Team
@BedsLive
. And to cap it off with a Harvester meal together because we know how to LIVE.
Feel like it's impossible, especially for those in the media, not to be impacted by the persistently depressing news cycle of recent weeks.
Reminder not to be glued to the news and Twitter 24 hours a day.
It's advice I need to take far more often, I'm sure I'm not the only one.
A year ago today I was interviewed for my job at Essex Live. I spent 2 hours frantically running around Chelmsford in dress shows too small for me and a full suit on one of the hottest days of the year, begging independent restaurants to speak to me. Now I get PAID to do that.
Taking part in
@essexlive
and its sister sites
#Do1Thing
campaign where we all take small steps to help fix the climate emergency. Taking inspiration from
@beanstoast
, I've got myself a bamboo toothbrush, and will never buy a plastic one again. Join in!
As a long-time Biffy fan, this was so sad to listen to. Why even bother making new music if you're going release stuff like this? Balance, Not Symmetry was so visceral and raw but different. This could be a fucking Imagine Dragons song.
I am absolutely heartbroken by this. Sir David and I spoke multiple times about Southend's city bid. He was so passionate about the town he was the MP for. He was one of the politicians in it for his community, and it was clear for anyone who had spoken to him
Coronavirus is the biggest challenge facing our generation. If I knew that the biggest challenge I'd ever face would involve me staying home, writing news and eating cereal, I wouldn't have paid so much attention in self-defence classes.
In the doctors.
A teen walks in and says she's here to pick up a sick note.
Gets and walks out, under her breath says "fucking yes".
Door shuts. Muffled outside "I fucking got it!"
I hope she had a lovely day whatever she is bunking off to do.

I have a 900 strong CD collection that I like very much and would love to add to. I think collectors of all kinds should be happy and the more mediums the merrier IMO
On a good note, I got a decent mark for my final project! It's the piece of work I cared about the most and to know that it wasn't just a passion project and was actually of some quality was really nice. PHEW.
It's a sad, sad day.
I've just gone on to my secondary school's website and a picture of me is no longer on the front page.
It was there for seven years.
I am crestfallen.
Anybody else miss being packed shoulder to shoulder at a gig or in a pub or at a club or in a football crowd? I'm not an idiot and I understand why, but damn do I miss that collective unity.

My asthmatic, cancer-beating Nan, in her late 80s, caught Covid before Christmas, along with my Grandad. They've been isolating since then. Today my Grandad tested negative and they can both go outside.
They got ill, but made a full recovery and never needed hospital treatment.
