My theory: If you tilt Britain about 30 degrees to the right, it's a truer reflection of where we culturally intuit cities to be in relation to each other. Manchester "west" of Edinburgh, Birmingham "north" of Norwich, etc. i.e. North North West is Britain's True North.

Lived in Toulouse in 2007, just been back to visit. The difference is staggering. It’s been pedestrianised to within an inch of its life, including a bridge. Feels so much more clean & vibrant. For those doubting whether cycle lanes/ LTNs really work, be patient. Yes! They! Do!
