A reminder if you're visiting the beach this summer that birds such as Ringed Plover, Oystercatcher, Little Terns nest on beaches all around our coast. Their eggs and chicks are *extremely* vulnerable to people, dogs, horses etc etc. Be wildlife-aware and give them a chance!

Stick your head outside your door for 5-10 mins tonight and comment below if you can hear the gentle 'tseep' call of migrating Redwing as they arrive for the winter! Loads calling on the east coast for the last couple of nights.

We wish to express our disappointment with the outcome of the Open Seasons Order review. While the removal of 4 species shows some progress, we're disappointed that 2 species that we recommended for removal remain on the list despite ongoing declines.

BirdWatch Ireland is disgusted by the illegal killing of Mary, a Manx-born Hen Harrier, in Co. Meath. She was poisoned and left to die a horrific, painful death. This has to stop. Now.

It's important to feed your garden birds in this cold weather, but equally if you have been providing food and water **MAKE SURE** to give your feeders and water bowls a thorough cleaning every week or so. This unfortunate Chaffinch succumbed to (probable)Trichomoniasis today.

First Barn Owl egg of 2023! Delighted to get this news from @GilliganNathy , a bit grainy but you can see the female with her first egg, laid on the 1st of March, also technically the first day of the breeding season... what impeccable timing! Also very early! Great work Nathy.

The @theRiverField Barn Owls have laid their first egg! We got a surprise when we checked in on them to see the female sitting tightly on a single beautiful white egg, more to follow in the coming days! Here are some of their antics leading up to laying & a glimpse of the๐Ÿฅš

The Little Terns have been busy over the last week and we're now at over 100 nests at Kilcoole! They're off to a quick start this year, and we're expecting more than double that in the coming weeks. Thankfully the weather has been perfect for them! #TeamTern #KilcooleLittleTerns
