Residents in Kaya #BurkinaFaso had blocked the French convoy since Friday. (Someone is even said to have brought down a French drone with a slingshot.) Some injuries were reported. #Barkhane is drawing down from neighbouring #Mali where there's also been protests against France.

Chad's military government - which has faced some backlash for prolonging its transition - has closed its borders with Sudan where rival armed clashes are ongoing, and urged the international community to enable the neighbouring country to "complete its ongoing transition".

The rhetoric being used in mobilisation calls is easily conflating actions against rebel #TPLF forces and aggressions towards residents in the #Tigray region. So the toll of the conflict continues to rise, humanitarian intervention remains fraught and ethnic animocity deepens.

#Zambia 's electricity provider is also experiencing a "system failure" leading to a nationwide power outage. All this as it prepares for elections on 12 Aug. Last week Lusaka Times reported plans to shut down the internet on election day but there'd been no official reaction.
