We are checking today to make sure that medical students on clinical placements are also included in this proposed payment and will update med students on this as soon as we can.
Delighted to announce earlier my intention to give students on non-salaried clinical placements, across all year groups, a £2,000 payment in recognition of their enormous contribution during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Very disappointed to hear there will not be a three year budget. We need to be able to make long term plans to transform our health service but short term budgets hamper progress.

BMA welcomes the appointment of Robin Swann as health minister: “We need the Minister to immediately pay the 2023-24 DDRB recommended uplift and commit to an additional, immediate above inflation pay uplift for all doctors in NI."
Full statement:
We welcome the action taken by NI Trust CEOs in trying to address the lack of funding for a pay uplift in Northern Ireland.
Junior doctors and consultants will continue to plan to ballot for industrial action to address the long-term issues around pay parity and pay erosion.
For many med students who will now be looking at where they want to develop their career, Northern Ireland is increasingly looking like a place that does not value drs and the huge contribution they make to our health service.
We will continue to lobby DoH on this issue.

Urgent action needed now on pay to reverse growing staffing gaps among frontline doctors. Future of HSC depends on this action.
(1/2) It is beyond unacceptable for doctors and frontline HCWs to be threatened for doing their jobs, whether the threats are online or in person. They are treating the most sick and vulnerable in pressurised circumstances and should never be made to feel frightened for doing so.
We and

NI's med student finance system is overly complicated and unfairly penalises students from poorer backgrounds. Graduate med students do not receive the same financial support as they would elsewhere in the UK. At a time of acute medical staffing shortages this is unacceptable ⬇️
