I didn’t watch it, did they make another “animation is for children” joke again? Yea I mean, why would Miyazaki show up to an event that disrespects his craft like almost every year?
@feedfancier
@AtroxChobatsu
You seem confused.
ONLY these two variations of Mickey are available for public use. The Steamboat Willie (with the hat on SPECIFICALLY) and the earlier 'classic' design before that.
I am simply informing people to be aware when they're planning on using his early designs.
Listen I'm all for saying "fuck art schools" because truly, fuck them. But your rant thread needs to include the fact that international students NEED to have a degree in order to be able to stay/work because of visa situations.
"No one cares about your degree"
IMMIGRATION DOES
To answer the "why didn't anyone report this bad behavior to the company HR?" Questions.
HR is there to protect the company, not you. If they have to burn through 10 people to save face and protect the brand, they'll go operation scorch-earth on everything but the source problem
Some of you using these "nobody/somebody" tags while you’re working professionals at Nick/Titmouse/DW, etc. like...you kidding? You’re already doing it, you’re working the dream/the first steps of it. Come on, that’s hardly fair for those that are trying to break in
Using the military to attack its own citizens is classic dictatorship 101 and absolutely no one in the government seems to be willing to do the bare minimum. Guy wiped his whole ass with the constitution and they let him do it willingly.
Netflix sitting on banger after banger animated release (Entergalactic, Oni, Wendell & Wild just in the last 2-3 months alone) and doing the bare minimum to nothing for promotion is so wild. Like...what's the strategy here?
Thinking a lot about Batman Beyond, how Id approach it stylistically for a CGI feature or show. Seen a lot of fanart armored up suits, I prefer the smart cloth approach to keep his random facial expressions.
If Warner Animation (WAG) ever decides to give it a go, hit me up ya?
I know 90% of you in LA have a car, but for those of us that don’t, it would be cool if you could fill this out to eliminate fares. Also gets the metro cops to stop harassing people over if their card fares.
My favorite story about these was that Dave Fleischer didn't want to make Superman, and asked for like 4x more than the usual budget, thinking the studio would back off. They called their bluff, gave them the amount they asked and it was too late to back down.
I want to avoid being labeled Twitter's villain of the day, I'm only speaking for myself here: I need a proper workspace and separation of work/home and I have neither of those. Congrats to those that are thriving in it, my partner has been killing it. Me? I'm barely functioning.
No, sorry, still upset that the country that can easily get and can pick which vaccine to get, practically served on a silver plate, and half its people decided it's cool to just not even do the bare minimum and skip it.
As the coronavirus evolves and the vaccine rate slips, the U.S. may never reach the threshold for “herd immunity,” public health experts say. Instead, Covid-19 will likely become a manageable threat that will continue to circulate.
so like, kung fu panda 2's villain didn't have to go so hard but dreamworks animation studio was like "what if we went 1000% with this film and had a royal knife peacock with traumatic ties to the main character" and made it work so well
Clip Studio Paint has been getting the best PR lately without lifting a finger. And Adobe here dismantling itself and turning against the people that pay for their software, they can straight up go fuck themselves.
Intentional or not, for me the heart of Treasure Planet was how broken people did their best to help others. And also this bit resonated with me for reasons and has never failed to tear me up every single time 🥲
Yes. The art direction for the special one has been a big influence that has stayed with me forever. It was wild to see the hugely negative reaction to it at the time.
I’ll always point to the making of Frozen 2 docuseries if you want a real time look at the train wreck that is feature animation for the past few decades 🙈
Feels like a single company shouldn't have 75% of a category nominated, but what do I know? But anyway I'm rooting for Flee, even though I can already tell where this is gonna go.

nominees for Best Animated Film:
‘Flee’
‘Luca’

‘Raya and The Last Dragon’

My favorite thing about a few older artists in animation is they're brutal to the ones working below them, they say shit like "strive for greatness, never be satisfied with an 'ok' drawing", and then you look at their drawings and they're...not great. It's a lot like this tweet
#PinocchioMovie
did this thing where the animators came up first when the credits rolled. That's just power you can't buy.
The absolute bare minimum every single show should do is credit the overseas animators and artists individually. That we stopped doing that is a huge crime.
Some BG design tips:
-Aim for believable, not perfect, perspective.
-Make sure to group your shapes from big to small as best as you can for better flow
-Avoid at all cost brewing a two year old coffee bag you found in your cabinet cause you ran out of the good stuff.
I've told everyone a thousand times that I broke my back in a car accident. I keep the rest out but, it was an off-duty cop that was racing with another car that hit us. My half-conscious dad getting loaded into the ambulance got a ticket and was told "here, it was your fault"
Dreamworks getting absolutely dragged right now and I love it. They have some of the most talented people and they are grossly underpaid.
I did some freelance and also a test a while back, not even close to Guild freelance wages. Ridiculous.
Before this one gets out of hand, I did like the movie a lot. I just think a multi-billion dollar company can afford to bring at least one Colombian writer, artist or filmmaker Full-time into the production, the bare minimum. It's genuinely not that hard.
I dont know in how many ways it needs to be said that its completely normal to start working in animation on your early 30s and you dont have to be an 18 y/o prodigy, but we're gonna set a record for it.
This is…this is not true, at least not quite. They were under The Animation Guild. But it was to lower labor costs and after seeing the success of 3D Pixar/Dreamworks films at the time.
This already spread far enough that people are believing it tho so 🤷🏽♂️
Not a diss at anyone, but the way Netflix animation has opened doors for projects that the established studios wouldnt think twice to look at...I mean nothing is perfect, but man, what an exciting time to be here

I want to show you guys some work in progress shots for Remember Us!
Animated by the amazing team at Dinamita Animation, storyboards by Ernesto Alonso
Proud of the work being put into this little film, hope people give it a look once we release it ✌️
I love how relentless GDT has been on his message about animation. I dont think he realizes how many fires he's been lighting up inside a lot of us. Dude really started something here
Not sure if everyone is aware, but you can watch Flee for free on the Animation Showcase. This one is definitely one of the best films of the year, and I hope it gets the Oscar nomination, def one to watch.
Just sitting over here thinking about the time animation artists from Europe came for an Expo pre-covid times, and we talked about salaries and how little they get paid. And seeing the Arcane team posts and how little they get paid. And-
Imagine sharing this, puffing your chest, and boasting it took you almost two hours to do it. Could've just kept it to yourself, "trending on artstation" lol
There's no doubt in my mind that making AI art is real art.
I spent about 1.5 hours tweaking things to produce these visuals. The hair, perfect red lipstick color, focus, eyes, wrinkles, theme, reflections, clothes. It was a joy to achieve a result I couldn't have previously.
Unpopular opinion, but gonna be so happy when we finally move forward from the whole Day/Land of the Dead thing in latino-related animation. I appreciate it so much, but we have so many stories. Exactly 31 Mexican states, and below, 33 latin American countries worth of folklore
Cool cool cool cool! Dont think I forgot what happened with that last season of Korra though, where almost half of it was thrown off the broadcast. Speaking of Korra, it's 2021, go full gay or go home Nick.
We're so excited to announce the launch of Avatar Studios with co-creators Mike and Bryan! 🌊🍃🔥💨

Decades and decades of successful, mature, or less conventional storytelling projects from Japan and Europe will never be enough to convince Western studios that people actually enjoy these things.
EXCLUSIVE: “Scavengers Reign” has been canceled at Max, but all hope is not yet lost for the show.
Beginning on May 31, Season 1 of the animated animated sci-fi drama will begin streaming on Netflix.
Yo like...maybe stop eating here. Looking at all of you animation people filling up the long lines at the new one in Burbank. It's not even a great sandwich.

Based off the few years I've been working in animation, and now learning about publishing, I've come to terms that BIPOC are waaay too hard on themselves when it comes to telling stories about their culture. Meanwhile someone else does a 5-minute google search and runs with it
Can you imagine pouring your soul out and finally getting your story about generational trauma released, either a short, book or graphic novel now, only to for it to be compared to the last generation of Disney features??
I think it'd be super funny actually.

This is genuinely upsetting, regardless of if anyone saw it coming or not, Netflix really screwed a lot of people over here, not just creators but many designers and others down the ladder.
Today in unrelated news: Phil Rynda, Netflix's Director of Creative Leadership and Development for Original Animation, has been let go along with several of his staff, following massive changes at Netflix Animation's Kids & Family division.
My knowledge of this may be rusty, but as far as I know, this was the first or one of the first instances of a background that was painted specifically to work in multiple angles, as opposed to animating the BG as anime had painstakingly done up to that point.
the layout and BG paint on this particular Mickey Shorts episode ("Nature’s Wonderland") is absolutely amazing and everything I want in my toons. Give everyone a raise.
How Disney could make everyone happy:
Re-release Treasure Planet.
Make a Treasure Planet sequel/tv show
Remake Treasure Planet.
Live action Treasure Planet (maybe?? could be down for it)
Things that Disney isn't doing:
Giving us some goddamn Treasure Planet. Get a grip Mouse.
none of The Wings of Fire and the other crews deserved this. I know it's just business to them, but the way they've cut so many people after puffing their chest out about animation two-three years ago...Netflix can eat my ass.
Jumping on that avocado

train and made one last night, cause I loved all the ones being made. I went for a more stylized, quick and dirty look tho
A witches school animated show, but instead of being a European setting, it's all about brujería/Santeria in a Latin American Caribbean setting.
Someone good at this and with connections should be making this.
