"El Paildo" tribute by the amazing talent at
@estudioshout
!!! This animated tribute was based on a beloved painting tribute I did for Maestro's
@RealGDT
"Pan's Labyrinth".
I was just talking in an animation class about implied story in character design clothing. For grown up Manolo, he picked a black matador outfit. Why? Because black is the most used mariachi outfit color. Even as a matador, Manolo is telling us who he really is. Skulls everywhere…
EXEC: remove the cigar please.
ME: but he died cause of smoking!
EXEC: we can’t have cigars.
ME: film is set in the 1910’s Mexico and this was clearly a rich guy. The poor sombrero guy is laughing. In the end, death made them equals.
EXEC: are you gonna be like this with all…
Convincing Nickelodeon to let us do this was an epic battle. But to their credit they eventually let us do it. The great Dave Thomas boarded this moment. And yeah, I have thing for characters losing a limb.
I painted this in 2016 after he said, “When Mexico sends its people, they're not sending their best. They're bringing drugs. They're bringing crime. They're rapists.”
Four years later I became a US citizen and voted to help him out.
Gracias, USA.
Buenos días!
I could not be more proud to introduce you all to Maya, our Teca warrior princess. Enjoy this little taste of what’s to come in Maya and the Three. What a time to be alive!!!
Prepare to enter a mythical world where magic is real and a princess will become a warrior.
Maya and The Three — a Netflix Animated Event, from the visionary director of The Book of Life — premieres this fall.
It’s why Maya and the The Three is one season. We built it so that a cancellation couldn’t derail the story. My only worry is there’s no physical media version of it.
Bryan O’Malley says the ‘SCOTT PILGRIM’ anime likely won’t get a Season 2.
“People are always complaining about how shows get canceled after 1 season. So we hedged our bets immediately, and tried to make a self-contained 1 season.”

I remember BS&P said we couldn't make this joke. I reminded them that Manny & Frida were technically dead at this point and how dare they disrespect the dead?!? They laughed. I offered to make the coffin white so it was less "dark". They laughed more and allowed the joke to…
A giant of our medium has left us. Once in a generation talent that changed what animation could be and how it was perceived forever. Thank you for all your wisdom and inspiration. A legend FOREVER. You left animation better than you found it. Gracias, maestro Richard Williams.
The death of your innocence when you find out your show has been cancelled while you're still working on it and now you have to tell your beloved cast and crew.
We used to have a bear skin rug on the wall when I lived in Mexico City and my apa, for years, convinced me that he had fought and killed this bear king in an epic slap fight ("Lo mate a cachetadas, mijo!"). So that's where this story came from.
Prompt: “Animated scene features a close-up of a short fluffy monster kneeling beside a melting red candle. the art style is 3d and realistic, with a focus on lighting and texture. the mood of the painting is one of wonder and curiosity, as the monster gazes at the flame with…
Whats crazy about this short is that my pal and good dude Aaron Horvath (who had been an animatic editor on El Tigre) was a director on this MAD series and then went on to run Teen Titans Go for years and most recently DIRECTED THE SUPER MARIO BROS MOVIE! Love it when the good…
Trailer of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem" animated movie by Jeff Rowe.

Reporters on both sides keep asking why I am rooting for COCO. If it doesn't do well people like me will have a harder time making films or shows with minority lead characters or worlds. It's my life long passion and mission to showcase where I'm from. So, please go see COCO!!!
Spiderman is a leap for our art form! It looks, moves, sounds and feels like nothing I have ever seen. To push feature animation in this visually and emotionally sophisticated way feels miraculous and incredible rebellious coming from a big Hollywood studio. Congrats filmmakers!!
My one of a kind father has passed. A spectacular architect until the end. Everything went exactly as he planned. Always thinking ahead for us. What a life he lived and what astounding examples and lessons he left. I dream to live up to his name until my time comes. Adios, Pa.
What astounds me the most about this moment is how effortless and whimsical it feels. No idea how Milt Kahl felt drawing and animating it, but it’s clear it makes us feel joy watching it.
Since we have been talking about it and I have every single piece of art ever created for the whole enchilada, who wants to see an “Art of El Tigre, The Adventures of Manny Rivera” book? I know I do!
I’m down if
@NickAnimation
wants to do it.
This is the new spicy dish we have all been working on to present to the whole world this fall on
@netflix
Hundreds of insanely talented people have worked together to bring Maya and her EPIC quest to life. If I die after this, they will bury me with the biggest of grins!!!
WOLFWALKERS was my favorite animated film last year and I hope it wins the Oscar. It probably won't because most of the voters will not have seen it. But imagine if it did? All the new eyes that would witness such a gem of a film! Big studio films don't need awards to be seen.
