Here's a Shopify App Store hack when trying to evaluate the options... Add "&sort_by=popular" at the end of the URL. Will rank by active installs. "&sort_by=newest" ranks by the newest apps. Note: If an app doesn't have the search term in the title the ranking may be wrong

I love post-purchase upsells. The buyer's already in buying mode. A little nudge, and you can (politely) make them open up their wallets. When @Feastables launched w/ @aftersell , they sold an additional 80,000 bars of almond chocolate by leveraging post-purchase upsells!

#4 - Incredible founders It's a huge task to take over a new app. The sellers were transparent and cool people -- that reflected in our multiple. If the seller is sketchy, trust your gut and don't proceed.

#1 - Time is money If I were to build the app from scratch, it would take 5-6 months to scope, dev, and QA. My bet is that the growth in the next few months outweighs the $70k.

For Shopify App Devs 👇 We got hit w/ fake 5-star reviews across 3 of our apps. Anyone seen this recently? Weird install pattern. Left all 3 reviews in a few mins. No proper interaction with our support team. Contacted Shopify Support and they are actively looking into it.

We decided to price on a freemium model with a usage based approach. Any existing users were grandfathered into the original free pricing plan. Uptake on the new plan was positive with consistent month over month growth.

PHASE 2️⃣ - Product Rework To build a better product you need customer feedback. So we added live chat and talked to 1000s of customers. We track how many times a feature is requested. This guides our roadmap. Now it's dead simple to choose what feature to build next.

And here are the stats post-acquisition... The app was operating for 6 months before I bought it. 6 months post-acquisition: 📈 User growth: 47 ➡️ 1,009[+2048%] 📈 Reviews growth: 9 ➡️ 51 [+466%] 📈 App store ranking: 2324 ➡️ 197 [+1079%]

This phase was a success ✅ We went from a 4.2⭐ rating to a 4.9⭐ rating. This also helped us go from rank 10 to the top 3 for the "Quiz" keyword on the Shopify app store. For a more in-depth guide on how we did this, you can read this thread:

Before getting into it, let me tell you what the app does... The app is called @PerfectQuiz It helps Shopify store owners create shop quizzes. Online shoppers answer questions on our users' stores and are shown products based on their preferences.

Monetization (Part 2 of 2): One KPI to monitor is the value driven for users. For us, that is revenue driven from quizzes. People are willing to pay based on how much value they receive. We're testing paid plans soon (for new users). Will share the results from this test.
