As a nobody who won this prize last year, I can affirm that these editors are ethical & love writing & generous & kind & don't care if you've never won a contest or a book deal or been published in a fancy mag. Send your poems!
So how do you all afford to be writers? Was invited to do offsite reading at AWP w/my 1st book but couldn't afford the flight/registration. DAMMIT. Now I'm invited to Breadloaf Enviro conf w/a scholarship but still will have to pay travel +$2K to be there. HOWW?? Gofundme??? FML
Now that EOY chaos is resolving itself a bit, I am having a moment of gratitude that my book has apparently sold 278+ since April. For a nobody debuting with a brand-new small press, I'm honestly stunned and feeling like a million bucks. Happy winter you'uns.
@BellePointPress
I love this poem in Claire Wahmanholm's new book Meltwater. This is how postpartum depression felt, to me. Isn't it wild what a poem can capture without seeming to even reach.
Beautiful work and I can't wait to finish it (which is why I'm reading while brushing my teeth).
I have....a lot of feelings. Gratitude & awe mostly, with [deleted essay on imposter syndrome] and also just complete joy that this poem about new motherhood & PPD will be read by other parents. Thank you
@BPJTweets
& Jane Hirshfield for this incredible honor
Delighted to announce this year’s winner of the Adrienne Rich Award for Poetry, Anna Laura Reeve! We received so many incredible submissions—please join the BPJ in celebrating Anna, the finalists, the semifinalists, and Adrienne Rich’s legacy of urgent, world-aware poetry!
It's pub day.
THANK YOU
@BellePointPress
for everything you've done to get these poems from my google drive to this gorgeous artifact of paper and type. It's truly beautiful, from the texture of the paper to the binding to the layout.
Omg.
It's now the month before the month my book comes out and we're having wildly unseasonably warm weather and I don't know to feel about anything except this is beautiful
The only sub I had out older than my 369-day NYer just got declined at 371 days and the rejection said 'we found this balled up in the drain of the janitor's closet, really sorry, not sure what happened! But it's a no from us for sure!'
I'm one of those poets who earned an MA & then ran far, far away from academia...so I have almost no network. Which made
@nancy_reddy
's yes to my outta-nowhere blurb request extra marvelous. It also means I'm still looking for reviewers. Esp. poet-moms.
Hi. I'm aware I'm not the only poet to be inspired by Wendell Berry's Mad Farmer poems but am I the only one to write a Mad Mother persona series? Idk. Here's the first in the series

Lighter colored varieties take on a yellowish/sometimes orangey cast when they're "ripe" which just means the seeds are mature. The dark varieties take on a grayish cast, making them matte rather than shiny. Former veg farm field worker here.
Never done this before and eminently unsure whether authors sell books this way, but I'm here to let you know you can buy my signed book from me for $18. DM me.

Beyond thrilled that

@AppalachStudies

@bereacollege
, and congratulations to the other finalists and winners!
Review copies going out today, & a residency app, & I'm feeling like doin some Elaine-style little kicks.
According to tarot March is the month I quit being stressed AF about having a book & start to enjoy it. Does anybody know how to enjoy good things? I am so mentally ill
This new thing where lit prize editors send personalized emails that feel like a solicitation then just say, Plz enter this $25 contest we'd really appreciate YOU, specifically, entering this $25 contest,
@Christopher_All
First serial rights mean the author can share a poem *after* it has appeared, right? How is sharing a poem post-pub infringement? Also, it's not giving away a product for free. It's a teaser, bc the product is either an entire issue or a subscription.
Feels like mom stuff is having a moment. I literally could not be happier, I am smiling this huge smile as the patriarchal fascist machine cranks the screws on everybody writing and elevating mom stuff rn
Anyways thank you
@MERliterary
for all you do, all of it
Excited to reveal our Vol. 72 no. 2 cover, featuring an intricate Victorian stomacher brooch. Inside you’ll find stunning work from Lauren Camp, Marcus Jamison, Elane Kim and ARA winner Anna Laura Reeve. More from this gorgeous issue soon!
The Gettysburg closing has me thinking about how much writers do for so little as a Normal Thing(TM), & how little sense this makes inside capitalism. It's a kind of "gift economy," always struggling, always sinking, always surfacing, always reminding us why we're here
"Don't call me ma'am bc patriarchy" excuse me?? Honey in the new south ma'am ate sir & left no crumbs. Ma'am reigns victorious & can say I love you & fuck you at the same time, it is three miracles in a trench coat don't @ me
Just so totally blown away that people whom I have not paid a dollar will write reviews like this for my book. Thank you so much

Introducing REACHING THE SHORE OF THE SEA OF FERTILITY by
@AnnaLauraReeve
! One of our spring 2023 poetry collections coming your way April 11. Pre-orders will open soon. The cover features photography by Samantha Farmer.
Trying to seem younger by not using so many emojis is hard but I am both excited and super honored to be reading at this event! Omg I want to use so many emojis here
We're so excited about our spring virtual readings! Don't forget to join us to celebrate MAKER OF HEAVEN & (
@jasonpmyers
) and REACHING THE SHORE OF THE SEA OF FERTILITY (
@annalaurareeve
)! We'll also be joined by friend of the press Esteban Rodriguez (
@estebanjrod11
).
When I was younger, I considered myself a nature poet, then an eco-poet, invested in the anti-pastoral. I tended to look out on the natural world from a quiet body. Then I had a kid.
The fanciest event I've done since my book came out was returning to my alma mater to give Lipscomb U's Landiss Lecture and chat with the provost and sign books.
That smile is the product of the campus librarian having me sign a book to go on the shelves. ❤️🔥😭
What the duck is this. It's....wonderful. A friend w/a background in philosophy & mutual aid is running a landscaping co. focused on native plants & removing invasives, & just started an interdisciplinary print mag w/pieces on brook trout, the Hindman flood, & so much more. 🤯❤️🔥
Now at the point of self-promo burnout when I'm just going to post poems from my book, like the first 2 sonnets from a crown in the middle section. Buy the book to read the one about *Misoprostol* etc
@The_Big_Quiet
My mom wanted to get a dog because she wanted to "experience unconditional love" and two years later she says "ew" when it licks her and calls it "needy" and "annoying" so can confirm yes 😂
I am once again forcing your eyelids open so I can share a blurb for my book, please stop struggling it'll be over in a minute: Jesse Graves, the great Appalachian poet and (I hear) a truly great writing teacher as well, generously wrote these words for me.
I'll admit it, I suck at twitter, I'm much more at home on instagram, where I cultivate a persona of consistently manic chill/hot mess. Anyway the *first informal review* of my book just rolled in & of course I then made a graphic in stories to screenshot for a static post. 💅🏼
'ello 'ello 'ello! Flatlays are embarrassing bc I'm not an influencer & therefore use dumb shit like old dresses and balance things precariously in front of odd windows
Regardless! A poem from my forthcoming debut is out in The Tusculum Review!
Lol I'm posting this during AWP but whatever, ANYWAYS, my book launch is coming up & if you're in
#Knoxville
on April 16 then come to
@UnionAveBooks
to hear me read from my debut poetry collection! There will be snacks! & boxed wine! Will keep trauma poems to a minimum I promise
Couple pieces in the FIRST EVER issue of a new litmag with the most immaculate vibes u can imagine:
@atmosphericlit
I could've sworn I posted this already, I'm a little concerned I did but anyways
I grow old, I grow old / I shall wear the bottoms of my trousers (cropped fashionwise according to the previous year's trend) / Shall I part my hair (in the middle according to the young people's street style candids)? Do I dare to eat a peach?
Do I dare

reading series convened on a cool afternoon &
@MordecaiPMartin
had the entire audience in the palm of his hand. Gorgeous incredibly moving poetry. I'm so embarrassed I didn't get a photo of the other reader, Shlagha Borah, whose work was also abs killer. 💯💯
One of my poems in current Climate issue of
@still_journal
This one is CLOSE TO MY HEART. My next writing project has a lot to do w/ my farmer friends & their vital work in our regional seed system. An underfunded, disorganized system that gives a lot & needs more love.
I way overuse "omg" but I can't help it if life is just continually astonishing, in all the ways. Current astonishment: my alma mater has invited me to give this year's Landiss Lecture and I am doing it.
@ambernoelle
Lol. Me to me: Did it hurt? When you reorganized your whole life to make sure your kid didn't turn out like you but at the age of 8 you realized they turned out like you anyways? Cry or laugh, which one idk
Omg my book finally has rankings on amazon. Was celebrating being a grown woman who gets to wear whatever she wants by buying an electric salmon crop yesterday but now that I've seen this I'm getting a 👏 jean 👏 jacket 👏

This beauty has been out for like 6 wks. Which means it is the time to remind people to leave ratings & reviews in GoodReads & Amazon. If you've read it, will you take a minute? I have no bestseller illusions, but I do want to extend this book's reach. 1/2
TFW ur kid is up early barfing for a couple hours & u can't go back to sleep so then u COMPLETE UR APP FOR A HAMBIDGE RESIDENCY with ur right eye twitching the whole time. You don't have to clap, no no please, thank you, thank you v much. Ok but honestly it really took me 3 hrs

Editor's Prize winner Swan Wife and had to share this pantoum. This form and this subject were made for each other PROVE ME WRONG 💅💯
@sarahroseetter
So glad none of that is showing up in my feed, I would be livid. Just seems like poisoning the well. This movie is reaching so many women who would never go see a "feminist" movie on purpose!!! And making them ask questions they've never considered before!!!
Tomorrow evening! You don't want to miss these stellar readers and poems about motherhood... And remember, a surprise for a couple of audience members at the end... Registration link in bio!
My first issue of

Swear to god nothing's more humbling than trying to write an author bio for my first BOOK bc I'm reading everyone else's for structure ideas and they have done so MUCH and received so MANY org monies to support their work and all I have done is write a book
Copies of REACHING THE SHORE OF THE SEA OF FERTILITY going out to my giveaway winners today. Giving books away feels amazing, esp. when it's to other young moms 💐❤️🔥💐
Got to hear a mom humiliate her son in front of a librarian & me today, only to discover they were looking for the kids Left Behind series. So I am putting a full half cup of garlic in the meatballs. You've heard of eating feelings. I'm garlicking my feelings. IT DID HELP, A LOT
If you don't know about Red Tree Review, WELL THEN. Gorgeous Kentucky poetry mag run by Robert Campbell which appears to eschew the socials completely. So I'm going to harass you with pieces from the new issue, starting w/one of mine:
As public a thanks as possible to my poet friend & reviewer
@SaraMooreWagne1
for this generous take on REACHING THE SHORE OF THE SEA OF FERTILITY in the summer
@still_journal
issue. Omg. Feeling extremely seen. 💓
A SAD SAD TALE but none of these people (except me, far left) nor the beautiful event in which they read their frankly killer poetry and fiction (Red Branch Review festival) are on twitter. From L-R: Micah McCrotty, Susan O'Dell Underwood, Peter Faziani.
Was talking to a mom friend recently who connected so much to my book, with all its PPD & postpartum body headspace & feminism/family cruxes. I've promoted this book for a year. Hard to keep that up. But I love this book & she reminded me how much. She's buying 10 copies GUYZ ❤️🔥
Here's the cover of my book coming in June
@BellePointPress
. It's about climate change, picking ditch weeds with my kids, corn mazes, forest fires, my grandparents' farm, creek floods, the songs that are sung in a land that's stolen, spoiled & strange. You can pre-order today!
@lmillernpr
A half-thought of mine is ultracross breeding projects in heirloom vegetables. Breeders throw together a lot of varieties in a field, and let them ALLL cross-pollinate, which is actually a lot of genetic collision! Haha but still
Mad Mother poem 4 of 4. Writing these was aspirational, and instrumental. Too hot and sweaty. A little choking on the beginning, a roof blown off in the end. Let's get it, artist mothers! Don't let the bastards grind you down ❤️🔥
We welcome new poems from
@AnnaLauraReeve
in our climate issue. Anna’s debut poetry collection is Reaching the Shore of the Sea of Fertility (

My second poem in
@still_journal
"The Climate Issue." Pretty stoked to be in the lineup. Just keep thinking about James Still lately, à propos of nothing, and being grateful he lived and wrote. Ty
@m__worthington
First half of the last poem in my book just came out in
@broad_river_rev
. I never tease poems---I'm always postin em up as soon as they come out, but I'm teasing hard with this one about recovery from PPD and perfectionism because it just has some unique momentum behind it, IMO.
Two poems by an absolutely KILLER poet I got to meet after

Virginia Poets reading this week. From Valencia Robin's book Ridiculous Light. Was going to post the cover too but seems like that's an Instagram thing. Anyway, if Valencia Robin is not on your radar...get on it!!
Meltwater by Claire Wahmanholm is my new favorite eco-grief anything. Also some incredible parenthood/intrusive thoughts poems, including the one I posted earlier via bathroom selfie. READ THIS BOOOOOK 👇
LOVED this
@oxfordamerican
piece by
@Dr_JessieW
abt growing up in East TN under the thumb of the patriarchy but with Pat Summit out there being & doing. Our feminist icons, here, usually avoid platforming for fear of notoriety (& other reasons). But they do the work without it.
I feel like one of those parents who write fond posts on social media addressed to their infant children who cannot read, when I thank untaggable people. Oh well: thanks Maddie Gallo
@susurrusmag
for accepting a poem AND complimenting the hell out of it in your acceptance note!
I don't know what I'm gonna be doing there, but I'll be there doing it. Are you a writer I know online and you're gonna be there too? I want to see you there!!

Tennessee State Rep. Justin Pearson speaks after vote to expel him from the House over participating in gun protests: “Our lives are at stake. And we're going to fight for our lives, just like they're fighting for the NRA."

After a few hours of promoting my book by sending emails and submitting forms that literally just say "HI IT ME, ME ME, ME & ME & ME [u might be interested in] ME ME & ME AS WELL" I am now putting on my nice boots and going to the farmer's market. Goodbye forever
I had what feels like wild beginner's luck with this first book. Reminds me of when ppl have a great sleeper as their first kid (not me, my first kid was worst sleeper ever). Please believe I'm nearly dead of gratitude.
